I'm looking at rebuilding my current 32 GTR box once the new one is sourced and fitted.

Toying with the idea of a PPG gearset. Either way the box will be rebuilt.

Does anyone recommend where to get a GTR box rebuilt with OR without the PPG set. Do you source parts (bearings, seals, etc) through Nissan and supply to builder also or have them source parts and markup?

How much power is your gtr making?

From what ive gathered on this topic there is no point spending 2-3k on your box and building it with standard gears. It will be no stronger than a s/h box which will only set u back 600 - 800 bucks.

After speaking to many high powered GTR owners myself they have all told me that its just cheaper to replace the box everytime it blows (once per year sounds about right if your under the 550hp mark).

If your making 600hp+ you will breaking them more often than this, that is when you may want to consider a PPG, otherwise dont waste your money.

Ive also been told by various people that the OS giken gear sets arent all that strong either.

PPG or s/h stock is the way to go. :)

500hp.

Need a 2nd hand box for the time being anyways so I guess I'll wait and see how that goes and have the busted one for building should the need arise.

Need to be more gentle on the box... 4wd, grippy tires, non-dampened twin plate. My fault : /

If your going to beat up on it then build it, nothing more frustrating than grabbing a gear and nothing happening :(

NOOOOOOOO worst box ever , one we had in the 32 has broken twice and has been a very costly pile of shit .

Mechanical sympathy is a much better extender of gearbox life than costly gear sets.

If you do mainly circuit work (where smooth is fast) you can make even a standard gearbox last for a decent time.

If you do drags or stupid sh1t like dropping 3rd on a prepped track then expect to break even expensive internals.
