Is there any way to change the sensitivity of the buttons on PS3? Even just for GT5. Can't find anything in the PS3 manual or Settings themselves and the GT5 settings don't offer that much customization either.
Reason is I bought a new controller (HKS Hipermax) for use with GT5, but at 30% throttle as read by the LCD on the controller, it registers at 100% throttle in GT5 - so it doesn't really offer the range I'd like for throttle control.

can you not adjust controller sensitivity in driving options, just before you go out on track where you can adjust manual/auto, driving line, abs, traction control etc etc??

I thought that was just for steering sensitivity? Will have another look when I get home. If it is just for steering, however, that adjustment would come in handy if I were able to desensitize the entire controller elsewhere, then just up the sensitivity for steering through that menu.
You'll find most racing games only require about small amount of button pressure on the dual shock to register full throttle to prevent sore thumbs. I guess due to the fact the HKS controller is emulating the X button you're only needing 30% throttle to achieve full throttle in game.
The R2 and L2 buttons on the dual shock can also be used as throttle/brake and I believe use nearly all of the available travel.
Can you adjust the HKS controller in any way? (eg Re-map the X and Square buttons to L2/R2 and set the throttle/brake in the game settings to R2/L2)
Better yet, buy a Logitech G27 and sort a decent mounting setup. GT5 is infinitely better with a wheel.
Speaking of controllers, anyone know a place with decent prices? I got stuck for 3 hours on one room on Dead Space 2 and the poor thing took a horrible beating. L2 is barely working now :(

Reasons why I went with the HKS were:
1) Price. $75 compared to $250-500+ for a wheel/pedal setup
2) Size. PS3 is set up in the bedroom and unfortunately there's not enough room between the end of the bed and the entertainment unit for a wheel/pedal setup.
I did read up on changing throttle/brake to L2/R2 but then that defeats the purpose of the HKS Hipermax controller - the pedal-like X and [] buttons.
I can't imagine it would be a hard feature to implement in future firmware updates, considering there is already a level of pressure-sensitivity there, it's just not adjustable. I guess for now I'll just have to put my thumb on a diet.
if you come over and try out my g27 you will definantly want to buy one after that :)

No roommmm! I've already taken over the bedroom with the TV + PS3, pretty sure Michelle would kill me if I brought anything else in here haha.

as far as i know no game has the option, the console definitely doesn't, to modify the sensitivity of the buttons themselves.
on another note, cant believe you actually bought one of those HKS controllers :S looks retarded, how is it in use ?

ebay, ones form hong kong/singapore are $30-40 delivered i think, much cheaper than local prices

The controller itself is actually pretty good to use; steering is incredibly smooth.
Starting to get used to the sensitivity issue now, still a long way off perfect though.

Sent an email to Sony last week:
I recently purchased a HKS Hipermax controller purely for GT5 (basically the X and [] buttons resemble pedals and the left-most up/down/left/right keypad is replaced with a left/right wheel resembling a steering wheel).
The issue I'm having now is that whilst the LCD on the controller shows that I am using ~30% throttle, GT5 will actually register it as 100% throttle. This means I'm only able to use less than 30% of the throttle range on the controller - not really ideal.
Is it possible to change the sensitivity of buttons for the PS3?
If not, is it possible to have it implemented in future firmware updates? From what I've read pressure sensitivity already exists on all buttons (bar PSHome, Start, Select), so it would simply be a matter of making it adjustable either for the entire system or per game, correct?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Received this reply:
Hello Hayden,
Thank you for writing in regarding the sensitivity of your buttons on your third party controller for Gran Turismo 5. The sensitivity you are talking about would work with a standard PlayStation®3 controller not a third party controller. Any questions you have about this controller, you should contact the maker of the controller.
Regards,
Mitch G
I don't quite understand this, because having an option to reduce the pressure sensitivity of buttons software-side would be irrelevant of what controller is being used. As I mentioned in my email, the majority of buttons on the DualShock3 controller are already pressure-sensitive so simply adding a increasing/decreasing factor to this sensitivity software-side would be a simple, SIMPLE addition.
So, here's my reply:
Mitch G,
I think you are misunderstanding my issue. Having the option to change the button sensitivity is IRRELEVANT of what controller I am using. I asked if there was an option and, if not, whether it would be possibly for such an option to be introduced in future firmware updates - it's simple feature and, as I said, irrelevant of what controller is being used.
Let me re-write my query, hypothetically:

Hi, I'm Hayden - long time user, first time emailer. I have a DualShock3 controller and like long walks on the beach. I think the buttons on this controller are far too sensitive. Is there a way to reduce the sensitivity so I can use the controller to my liking? If not, do you think it would be possible to have it suggested as an addition in future firmware updates?
Thanks,
Hayden
I've also sent an email to EAGL3 (manufacturers of the controller) to see if this is a localised issue or not.
Keeeeen to get this sorted, the controller (even with the lacking throttle range) has already improved gameplay dramatically, especially on the drifting side of things.

SUCCESS!
EAGL3 got back to me:

Bit odd that you have to take it out of GT5 mode for it to work properly with GT5 though? Lol. Going to give it a shot now.
Hope this helps anyone else looking at this controller.

GT5 by default maps the throttle and brake to X and square.
NFS by default maps the throttle and brake to L2/R2.
Can you adjust the HKS controller in any way? (eg Re-map the X and Square buttons to L2/R2 and set the throttle/brake in the game settings to R2/L2)
:p
Glad to hear you got it working.

fffuuu! Didn't know how the NFS controls worked. :(
