You do have to pay taxes though, right?

During the dates May-August-ish, Perth to Melbourne is just under $100 each way when usually it would be about $200-$250 each way with the cheaper airlines. Will use this to go watch the footy & hit Crown up after for sure

edit - isn't taxes just for the overseas stuff??

Flew tiger to Singapore a few years ago.

Was super uncomfortable, 4-5 hours is the very limit i'd ever want to be stuck on one of their aircraft.

If your under 6 foot and bring your own food and entertainment (laptop/ipad) it might be bareable.

But there will be a booking fee and credit card fee

_oz

Ok so the taxes are only %10.

The catch is its only $1 if you book a return flight. Ie if you pay 100 bucks to fly to melbourne but only 1 dollar to come back. comming to a total of 101 + tax + some other fee so it comes to around 130 bucks or sumthing.

_oz

the fees are:
+10% onto the prices you see when browsing
$8 service fee
$14.40 convience fee

if you take luggage with you that isnt carry on theres $12-$30 extra fee for that too depending on how heavy it is. I think 12 bucks is 15kg and 30 bucks is 30kg.

I tried it out, return flight in august to melbourne is 152 AUD inc all fees and taxes. if you dig abit deeper im sure there is cheaper flights than that.

$1 from Avalon airport, not Tullamarine, makes it a bit of a trek from the city.

There is always a catch

Yes the catch is that your flight will never be on time.

I flew Melbourne return a few weeks ago and our flight was delayed both ways. The seats are extremely close together and being fairly tall it was an absolute nightmare. I think next time I'll just cough up a bit more money and fly with someone semi-comfortable. Or at least wait until the pain and hassle of the last trip subsides.

You want to go to Tullamarine for certain (if you want footy/city), I had to cancel and re-book a Tiger flight direct with Tiger instead of Webjet because WJ wouldn't give me the option to fly in/out of Tullamarine.

I thought taxes were only for overseas flights too? No food, no drinks, costs you extra to book priority seating, $25/person for 25kg luggage and $15/kg for every kg over - yes they tried to ping us with this too so we had to unpack our suitcase, load it into a huge plastic bag and take that on board as our carry on (10kg carry on, but no 1 bag exceeding 6.5kg).

All I could suggest is flying one way with Tiger and coming back with a reputable airline so you don't land after your nice holiday soured by the flight.

Spot on. I was told by others to get there well and truly early for check in as they'll call it on the second and leave you standing there literally watching people who've just checked in walk away while they refuse you.

As it turned out we were hours ahead both times due to the plane delays.

For what it's worth I flew Malaysian Airways to Thailand as well and thought nothing of their service and flights, although I were told they were good. Will try Thai Air or maybe splash out on some Singapore Airlines the next time I go O.S. Then again Virgin Blue fly direct to Phuket and I've had great service with them.

A mate of mine had a nice old fuck show of a flight with Tiger.

booked and payed for online. checks in with baggage, "Sorry sir you have to pay for baggage", Pays the $75 to get all his crap on the plane.

Boards plane, takes seat, another J.Cooke2 arrives and says sorry champ your in my seat,J.Cooke1 say, um no im in my seat.....heres my boarding pass

Discussion ensues, Its discovered 2nd J.Cooke2 booked before J.Cooke1 and therefore was entitled to the seat. Also discovered that the booking for J.Cooke1 wasn't processed.

Security plus on Tiger.....

They then tried to tell him that because he wasnt booked on the flight the baggage fee's wheren't refundable.....He reply was something along the lines of "you checked my ID and let me on the plane, Your fault pay up"

Massive headache and he was late returning too WA and missed out on some work that he had booked over here.

I agree with you 110% there.

Flew with jetstar to singapore for the F1's last september, cost me $530 return with 20kg luggage, not included food purchaes etc. Booked the flight out for 12.05am on a thurs morning, meanign had to be at airport late wednesday night, i had worked that day, get to airport walk straight in to see flight delayded by at least 1.5 hrs, i was lookin fwd to getting settled in my seat to TRY and get some sleep. 2 hrs later we managed to take off at 2.15am.

Im not a tall bloke either, just on 6ft, and my knees were just touching the seat in front, found the seat really hard and uncomfortable and was sore after 5 hours.

Work flys me qantas when i go to head office in Sydney or wherever else and the seats are soo much better and you have alot more legroom, then add to the fact in you have checked baggage, food, entertainment etc.

Also flew Air Asia to London last year, they had good service but again had the same problems that i had with Jetstar. (Actually, our flight from KL to London was delayed 8hrs!!! they told us 2 days before it was delayed by 6 hrs but then when we arrived delayed a further 2!!!)
And from what ive heard and the pics ive seen of tigers planes they are even worse then both jetstar and air asia.

i decided after singapore/jetsar trip i was only going to fly fully serviced airlines. Thus i booked qantas to melbourne this month for the F1's, may of cost 700 odd return but its worth it IMHO, plus i get frequent flyer points :)
