Only 3 weeks until the footy kicks off again, who are your tips for premiers and spooners??

I've just setup a tipping comp for work at Oztips, hopefully I won't miss any weeks this year and I can take the cash!!

I'll be watching the Eagles came with a bit of interest in the NAB but have no hopes of them getting inside the 8 this season.. Maybe next year.

Will be good to see how hard the Dockers come out firing too, they got off to a great start earlier in the previous season before a bit of a fizzle out. It's safe to say the Pies will be a contender again but I would like to think some of the other teams will bring it to them, maybe Saints/Doggies etc? What about GC and Ablett?

I don't think we disagree that the Eagles are struggling - more making the point that, historically (and arguably presently) the Dockers are fucking shit. They may be on the up, but they have still proven very little when it comes to finals footy. As I have said in the past - happy for a WA team to do well - but not going to listen to dorkers fans rag on the Eagles non-stop.

Everyone goes on about Eagles supporters fuelling the fire - but take a step back and see what these other supportes say about the WCE.

Agree'd with the Eagles > Dockers argument. I've said same before about Port having won a flag already and dockers repeatedly choking. They have had some BRILLIANT players and still do, just they seriously lack the team cohesiveness required to win a flag. That and the shithouse excuse making coach. All the negative aside I really want to see them to well for once and would love to see them win a flag! Until that day though, they have NOTHING on the Eagles. Nothing.

You put up the same argument last year. And i said i wouldnt argue with you but you suck me in every time.

The 92/94 GF's were won by WA's best players because thats what WC had to pick from. The dockers get introduced and the effectively WA best players get split into two and the league is much more national.

No doubting the team in 06 was amazing, one of the most amazing teams in recent history I will honestly say.

Im not making excuses for the Dockers, last year they looked pretty good ( i think you admitted this at one stage) considering their past. Based on their past they could likely drop to bottom 4 this year with a good team. Hopefully not.

Bagging out coaches is pretty rash when woosha was saying we still have a "chance to make the 8" and "we wont finish on the bottom" all year long when it was pretty obvious they were fucked.

As I said last year I like watching quality football games with quality teams. Watching the eagles play in the 06 era was great.

I know you are probably just trying to fire me and the other dockers supporters up with your posts so i do take them in jest. But some of the things you say are really grasping at straws.

I also don't think St Nick is going to top the goal kicking list, I think his cousin may take that honour.

Looking forward to seeing the young guys coming through Freo's list this year, they appear to have some more exciting recruits(esp Mzungu) but I don't see them being able to match last years performance, mostly due to the back line being considerably weaker without Tarrant, and Hayden out for a time.

Luke Shuey is one of the best youngsters in the comp picked up the ball off the deck sprinted 65m and slotted it from 50m at full pace reminds me of someone.

First game of the season is out of the way... I thought Carlton were playing a frustrating brand of footy, especially under pressure when the Tigers went 6 goals to 0 in the 3rd. Seeing teams in the pinnacle of the game just bombing the ball into the 50 like the Eagles were doing last season is annoying at the best of times.

I tipped the Blues so was happy to see them come away with the points.. Had them for a 6 goal winning margin and was certain they'd achieve it by half time. Then it all got turned on it's head.

Jumping Jack might just go back to back Coleman's if he plays like that all season (yeah I know it's early!)

After the way the eagles played today i wouldn't get too excited. Nth Melbourne i think were unlucky, especially without having a ruckman against Cox.

I thought Eagles played well ... was a very tough game considering conditions, and they lost LeCras early and Masten was it? So only two on the bench didn't help.

Darling and Shuey were impressive, Gaff took a while to get going but showed some promise.

Didn't see Dockers game, but did see the winning goal from boundary which was awesome! Saints and Geelong was a terrible game, and fuck me, how about the Bombers. Jeeeeesus.

I reckon Darling has a good future ahead of him, his first game at senior level in the AFL competition and he actually seemed to have a good game. One to watch. Eagles got absolutely fucked on by the umpiring, 50m for a supposed elbow to the head after the eagles dude marked the ball? Fuck off, the guy wouldn't let him up, pingpingpingpings. Strongly believe however that the eagles are going to have to lift their game if they want to do better this season, LeCras doing his groin had me thinking it was over for the rest of that game but they hung in there, surprised me.

Dockers played a pretty lack-lustre game as well, was rather sickening seeing Jonathan Brown going down like that, fucking ouch. The new blood/youngsters in the team seem to agree with their style of play though, they appeared more lively and not huffing and puffing after 3/4 time as they usually do.

Still a whole season ahead for both teams to choke so not going to read too much into it yet ;)

there's always whinging about the umps but yesterday they were as bad as i've ever seen, it was literally a game of touch football for the roos, touch them and they got a free, eagles forwards were doing a great defensive job of locking the ball in after a point or turnover in their half, so often the roos only got it out of there from a soft free
at one stage they had 12 free's to 5 but most likely evened up the numbers late in the game, so frustrating when they are never held accountable for their performances, they're untouchable

as much as i'll always love football i really hate how the rule changes in recent years have taken away so much of the contest, a defender spoiling the mark has the hardest job in the game, so hard to spoil the ball without giving away a free, the hip and shoulder has been all but removed from the game, there's no contest anymore, no one on one marking contest is decided by the strongest or who has the best timing, it's who's wearing what jumper at the time that the umps decide who gets the kick
they're ruining football.

actually until i moved up north last year i went to nearly every home game for 13 years, says so on the new membership cards this year:)
as i said normally the numbers are evened up but way more often than not we get a raw deal from the umpires, i didn't watch the brisbane game, read about it in the paper and the writers agree, shoulda been a lions game

btw i wouldn't tip the eagles over port even at subi atm, they've been our 'bogey' side for a long time and we always struggle against them, at aami it's almost a guaranteed win for port
hopefully kerr comes back and stays injury free for the season

That aside I've also played the game my entire life up until colts a few years back so I do think I know more about footy than the average joe. As for the second part - lol I dont know where to start, I have never said the dockers were clean, infact some of my mates who used to go to the rise regularly seen freo players gurning their tits off. I simply said right now their list is a whole lot better than the eagles and they show far more promise at doing well. some good signs from youngsters like ballantine, de boer and hill but overall should have won it quite easily.

little mistakes like walters trying to mark a ball on the line when it was going to be a goal anyway, then maine missed one you would probably expect him to put away and then pavlich made a rare blunder infront of goals all within the final 5 minutes.

Yeh we have an amazing young crop. Heppel will be a champion, then you have the like of Bellchambers and Gumbleton which imo will end up being really good players even though they are taking longer than expected to get there. Then look at the others, Hurley, Crameri, Hibberd, Melksham, Myers, Pairs and the list goes on.

We will be right in amongst the mix in the next 5 years and with Hird and Thompson leading the way hopefully longer. We will get to 17 flags before Carlton as Collingwood will win the next 2 and Carlton will have missed their chance.

The main thing with us this year, is that the players now have a coach they respect that also has a gameplan that works. If Knights was still coach we would not have won a game pre-season or premiership season yet even though he'd have exactly the same list.
