So i want to paint my calipers black so they look a bit cleaner as at the moment they are pretty ugly and with new wheels on the way i want to sort them out.

Question is how would you mask off two-piece calipers?? I'm thinking mask off the disk and then try and rotate the wheel so the masking is behind the caliper??? Or is it just safer to remove the calipers completely and accept the extra work involved. I say extra work because caliper bolts are tight and im lazy.

And i emphasize again, black.... not yellow or red or toxic green. Kinda like this...

No masking needed if you use Pot belly black and a paint brush.

Spray pack all over , apply brakes to get of unwanted paint on rotor :)

I've always masked off the brake pad, so it doesn't look like you've gone and painted over everything.

you will not be able to run tape on the rotor and turn it so it goes behind the brake pad, its too tight there.
however just mask on both sides as close as you can, as well as over the pad to give a more professional finish, cover everything else to protect it from overspray and spray away. any which makes it through to the rotor will be removed as soon as you drive the car and apply the brakes.
make sure you prep the caliper first, use a wire brush and prepsol/wax and grease remover first. blow it all off, or let it try and then you can paint it.
take your time and the end results will reflect this.

I also got the file out and removed all casting imperfections, then sanded it down before painting too.

here is my old brakes prior to painting, at the prep stage, then after paint.

Yeah that looks good Mike, did you have many problems in the way of overspray doing it that way. Thats the main thing i'm worried about.

nup, masked it all up, put sheets over the whole car, and sheets all over the wheel arches inside up to the brakes
basically if you stood back all you could see was sheets, and the caliper was the only thing exposed.
