Did it myself with some kit from ebay has been going strong now for a year. I thought that microsoft did a recall and were fixing this prob regardless of time, check that before pulling apart.

They're really not hard to fix, I've done 3 now myself.

I don't have detailed instructions as I'm at work, but it's basically a case of pulling it open, cleaning off the crap between the CPU and heatsink and re-doing it with some thermal paste. Takes a little while, but all you need is some metho and cotton buds to clear the crap off, and thermal paste from any pc shop. All three I've done are still working 6+ months on.

However, these were all modded consoles with no real option of returning, so explore that avenue first, save you from potentially screwing it up for no real reason

use decent thermal paste, arctic silver or something.
one thing to consider though is how easy it easy to slip with the screwdriver putting the heatsink back on and write the mobo off

meh might just give it to Modshop to fix, $75 and 2 day turn around.
When i'm home all day with a broken leg the xbox is a main part of my daily entertainment so want it fixed quick.

run the xbox serial through the Microsoft website to just check if it's still under warranty. Worth a try!

RRoD is the Xbox's way of saying that you bought the wrong system :P

(Not a fan boy, own both systems :P)

Lol retarded statement. Regardless of which system you prefer there's is really hardly indifference. Bit of an exagguration really lol

As for earlier mentioned ps3 unreliability, the difference in % of total sold units that break down is something like 10%. Will try and find an article I read another it

Not really, 360 gets a shitload of quality games that never make it to ps3.
Only good games ps3 has that aren't on 360 are GT5 and MGS4, although those are 2 very high quality titles.
