Gday all, after a great day on sunday at the dyno i thought i would let you all put a car to a name.
Picked this up about 2 years ago pretty much brand new with less than 15 thousand k's with the intentions of it being a comfortable, reliable daily that i wouldn't spend big $ on and get me any un-wanted attention....... yeah/nah.

doing anything with the ECU?
Is hondata supported?
Heard that these can benefit from a tune pretty well?

Planning on it one day, Unfortunately for me Hondata hasn't cracked the late model ecu code yet... pingpingpingpings
My only options at this point are either run Hondata K-Pro Dual ecu setup with a cable throttle body conversion OR wire in a Haltech Platinum sport 1000
Even a re-flash on the earlier euro's nets around +40hp at the wheels with a standard car.

yeah it hangs pretty low, skatie gets stopped by it.
Its one of the best systems you can buy for euro's good steady gains and its only a little louder than stock which is a big win for a daily... ex daily.

na tones not yet, no real point but once i get the time to bolt some Toda bits up it should be around ~200whp
best thing is the bottom end torque - something most hondas lack.. severely.
hows your S15 going??

more info on your car?
i dont want to add up whats its cost me so far, complete exhaust from the head back was around 3.5k alone but thats what it means to get genuine top-notch parts that actually make a difference and last.

Small update,
My Toda finally arrived about 3 weeks ago, Fitted it up with the test pipe the day before the stance shoot

Ordered a Haltech platinum sport 1000 last week so during the little work downtime i have lately i've manufactured my dual ecu loom

This loom takes the OEM DBW and uses it to control the cruise control, the cruise control cable will then be used for the throttle body.
Now just waiting on my Toda "spec D" 40deg VTC gear arriving.

We looked at the Golf GTI's a few weeks ago but i ended up getting her a 2010 Outlander (some flashy Ralliart style one)
We both wanted another 4wd for more practical Exmouth trips.
As hot as those headers look how come you didn't get them ceramic coated for a few extra hp?
Very nice car dude, ive always had a soft spot for these, especially this model! Even back in the 1980s the accords were quite ahead of their time in terms of electronics.

Not really practical to get them coated, the exhaust side of the head is at the firewall side of the engine bay so airflow while driving takes the heat out without affecting anything in the bay.
The intake manifold on the other hand is directly behind the radiator - this needs to be coated to reduce heat-soak

Cheers, yeah i always liked them since they came out.
Got sick of driving bunky's so bought this brand new couple of years ago now.
Keen to see how it performs on the rollers.

Toda $$ isn't too bad but it can hurt lol!
I'll do a power run with the stock ecu first for a base figure with I/H/E
Then plug in the Haltech and tune it with the OEM 20deg VTC
THEN fit up the Toda 40deg VTC and re-tune again.
I want to see the gains by VTC tuning with I/H/E more than anything else here.

The intake manifold on the other hand is directly behind the radiator - this needs to be coated to reduce heat-soak
Makes sense in terms of the heat not affecting other engine bay components but what i was mainly referring to was keeping the heat in the pipes to help keep exhaust gas velocity up which helps with the scavenging effect.

There is about a $1500 price difference between the two.
Anyone here have a review on the AP Racing?

Mate runs AP Racing 6 pots on his FD he's had a few brake bias dramas with them but now its sorted they are brilliant. Closer to home have you looked @ Harrop their brakes are well priced, very well built. I run them on my FD best bit is you order the calipers unpainted and they are stealth as, you have to look real hard to see they are aftermarket jobbies.

thing to look at with brake kits are the cost/availability of replacement rotors, as you dont want to get stuck without getting them.
Ideally you want something off the shelf, or that just needs redrilling....
check out www.fastbrakes.com for wilwood kits to suit acura TSX.
Would go with at least a 4-pot superlite at the minimum.
Also, if you are planning on tracking the car, look at pad availability, again dont want to get stuck not being able to get anything better than a street pad.

Had part 1 of 3 arrive today
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_0405.jpg
I can now run a Hondata K-Pro Dual setup now thanks to Mikey at K-tuned.
Previously nobody with an 06+ Accord Euro could run this setup until around 4 weeks ago.
Hondata is basically (for those who don't know) a modified OEM ECU which allows you to take 100% control of the engine without sacrificing any standard goodies and RELIABILITY
I know people who have gotten rid of Motec's for the Hondata's.
So the Haltech loom is UP FOR SALE. Pm me if interested.

Small update on the K-Pro front, Came home from work yesterday to find this
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_0411.jpg
My DC5R ecu has arrived so today at work (5 mins ago while not on A.L) i extended the 4 wires required to run into the engine bay
2 for VTC sensor
2 for ETC sensor
And the 2 wires for the K-pro LED CEL which remains in-cabin.
De-cased the DC5R ecu, cleaned/inspected the pcb, cleaned up the case as-well as fitting the appropriate labels for connector designation, then clear coated the top cover.
Finished product
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_0417.jpg
Going over to the Goldcoast in two weeks time, Once im back ill send the ecu off for K-Proing and pick up the D-series wideband primary O2 sensor.
D-series O2 sensor is so i don't have to run the .KAL file for tuning.

nyan nyan nyan nyan
Have lost my mind lately and been secretly buying parts for the next phase of performance for the car and thought it's time to update the thread with what's on it's way in the next few months.
Was going to hold out on updating until i'm bolting everything up and it's been tuned but that's another post later on.
As far as the Hondata ecu setup was going, it's all up and running with no drama's for the last few months but i haven't yet decided on a tuner, When the time comes i'll get Joel from Driven in Singapore to fly out and do it.
April 2011
My car hadn't moved out of the garage in months so i kept a Sunday free to take it for a run.
Unfortunately for me, when i returned home i noticed a fluid leak at the rear of the car... A nice oily one, FML somethings wrong.
jacked car up and found that the Tanabe coil over on the drivers side has begun to leak... Shit's got less than 5000km on them!
Replacement time, Since i already had a full set of genuine Spoon arms under there i thought it logical to get the coil over designed to work best with them
*note, these aren't my photo's.
Just ones off net for ease as i can never be bothered getting my camera out when stuff arrives
Spoon Full-spec coil over system (F12k R8k)
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/full-spec-damper-kit-1290435613.jpg
Their in and a lot harder than the previous ones and I'm glad i have comfy seats or else my spine would be f**ked
What started in May 2011
Sold my NA parts which eventually arrived and went a different route
The boost route
Iv'e had many built NA Honda's in the past but they were all light hatchie's.. Not a 1390kg luxo barge.
Comptech supercharger kit to suit 06 CL9 manual with 3.15" (8psi) pulley.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/i-955bca5b-3e6b-46a4-bdf2-9e8f5fbf4db9-800.jpg
The tensioner's supplied with the kit are junk apparently so i opted for the MercRacing billet Auto-tensioner which relocates the OEM power steering pump and uses the stock Honda tensioner. Not only does that stop belt slip/shredding it let's me keep my J's Racing ETD
MercRacing tensioner bracket
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/bracket.jpg
Fair enough having a nice whiney blower is ok but what about reliability and cooling?
Bring in the Snow Performance stage 3 water/meth injection system.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/202ffd45ba37106ac80807456e7c.jpg
I originally got the stage 2, but for ease of tuning and safety i upgraded to the stage 3 which has a nice little digital controller which lets me use a 2-stage linear injection (2 nozzle) mapped directly from boost pressure/fuel injector duty cycle + rpm as-well as the "safejection" module to notify me when the juice is getting low in the tank and will automatically switch ecu maps back to a safer tune along with visual/audible warnings.
Speaking of injectors, the Injector Dynamics 725cc items
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/ID725-K.jpg
I got these with Teal coloured seats to match the J's SPL valve cover.
Chemical cooling is great for 60%-WOT but what about just daily use?

$150 more than OEM coil packs and a lot better.
So that's where it's at currently, So keen for all this stuff to arrive and to get into fitting it all up + tuning.
The Toda 40deg VTC intake cam gear i fitted when doing the valve cover and suspension.
Planning on moving the battery to the boot and using the space for an oil catch can and for the after cooler remote filler.
All this should be done over the next 3-odd months hopefully but I'm changing jobs and need to get a daily for the new one as i won't have a company car anymore.
+ I'm buying another house which i hope has a shed where i can plug away with it un-disturbed so it may be more like 6 months until tuning time.

I'm hardly ever down there these days, I don't fly too much anymore as it's too expensive (even when you fly your own plane) and CASA are a bunch of pingpingpingpings who do nothing but shit me to tears as I have a small issue that makes holding a medical a little tricky. I'm hopefully going to offload my share in the syndicate shortly and give someone else the opportunity to get right royally fucked in the arse (via their wallet) :)
If I see a Getz airside I'll chase it around for shit n' giggles (it would probably out run a 172 come to think of it) :p
Simon
14-09-2011, 06:33 PM
I outrun planes all day, take any gap lol.
Yeah CASA has made life very hard for everyone in the industry and anyone who wants to get into it.
just an example, for a basic (very basic) Electrical license under the old reg's, it would cost the employer or employee around $30-$35k for it.
Now under EASA 100.66, it's upto $93k.
Who the hell is going to fork out that kind of money? Nobody
AND with the average age of a LAME in all area's of maintenance being around 50 getting ready for retirement, the lack of trained people is severely going to jeopardise the safety of G.A and Civil aviation.
CASA's fucked it.

Well i haven't decided on brakes yet, the Endless BBK is mega $$$ and i'd most likely have to buy new rims to clear them!
I need to pull the thumb out and take some measurement's and see what will go in there.

Downside of having flat faced rims. If i was going to change i'd probably get a set of either Work XD9's or SSR Type C

Researched hard about brakes lately, ran into a few minor problems with rotor dimensions but have got it all covered now.

Small update on the boosting front.
Had been religiously watching online tracking for my blower and since Friday last week it hadn't moved from the Belmont Fedex depot.
I called them yesterday to find out WTF is going on and why isn't my shit being delivered.
The said i had to pay the customs fee.....
$435 later i was on my way back to work with it.
Nothing rivals the excitement of unpacking new performance parts.
Unboxed:
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/Image-1.jpg
So much extra shit came with the kit.
CT supplied me with the revised Auto-tensioner which is good news and bad.
Good because they work wonderful but bad because iv'e gone and paid for the Mercracing Billet item too!
I thought CT were sending me the original static tensioner (belt chewer).
Oh well if one fails (which i doubt) at least i will have a spare.
Jose from MercRacing had emailed me some pics of the Aftercooler kit being built,
This is where it stands at the moment.
He's aiming to have it ready for postage this Friday. I'm not pressuring the guy because he is a one-man show working from home in America after he gets home from his daily job.
Also noticed on his website that he is going to discontinue this product after he complete's these last 3 kits.
Good/bad i don't no/care.

Aftercooler kit, Cannot rate Jose's work high enough. Very happy!

Manufactured a new cubby hole panel to hold the W/M controller, Hated the first one with that fail attempt at "homo sticker bombing"
V2 is much more tasteful IMO.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_1677.jpg
So now all that's left to do is;
1) run the wiring for the "Safejection" module, pump and the SC waste gate solenoid
2) build panel in the boot for W/M reservoir/pump
3) fit blower, cooler
4) tune
Need to get down to Honda sometime and purchase all new fluid's for the motor too, will do a small service when bolting up everything.
Been busy as shit on the new home lately so i haven't really had too much time to work on the car, But hopefully shifting in this weekend.

Stumbled across this nice little power adding doodad today, have just ordered ex USA
Innovative Motorsports Technology's Comptech supercharger throttle body plate.
Basically rotates the stock or aftermarket throttle body 90 degrees to allow better airflow and spaces the T.B further away from the compressor.
As you can see from the first picture below, the CT throttle body plate is pretty restrictive.

I can still drive, but it slips if I try and boost anymore than 2-3psi.
Picked up this
Exedy Hyper Carbon Single Plate with Flywheel.

Some changes to the fuel system are currently in the works too.
This pic is a dummy fit as I'm still working out lines, I may even change them to hard-line yet.
Setting up to possibly go E85 in the future, All i'd need to do is drop in some massive injector's.
But it's not something i want to do straight away.
Aeromotive stealth 340 in-tank pump (fitted)

Are you a little worried about the gearbox once you replace the clutch and it's no longer the weakest link in the drive train or is that clutch still going to be a sacrificial part which will fail before you break something expensive ?

I'm not worried about the gearbox, I have a spare.
There a pretty tough box, of of people over east and in USA put around 450hp through them without a problem.
In a perfect world, the tires should be the weakest link. But I think this clutch should hold up orite.

Rear battery to go in
Water/meth reserviour, pump and the "safe- jection" module.
All that stuff I'm planning to hide behind a panel incase mr pig ever decides to stick his face in.
Car will be at Motorplex tonight too (along with a mates K20 EG hatch), I need a legal place to do a 3rd/4th gear datalog. Hope the clutch kinda works enough to let it happen.

Dropped the gearbox and fitted the Exedy "super hyper" carbon single plate clutch and fly.

Boot is all set up now with water/meth and battery systems done.
Still waiting on the IMT1 inlet to arrive before I can continue on. It was supposed to land on the 7th of Jan (its last scan was in Jamaica) fuck knows why it went there from America???

Same here. The butt dyno feels around 270whp now and I know there is another 80odd whp hiding in water/meth + actually hitting 10psi (instead of belt slipping upto a massive 4psi like it has been since I bolted it up)
Target whp is 350+. If not, then I'll melt the car lol

For the price of a DC2R swap though, you would come out ahead by dropping in a K20A instead.

Not as pricey as one may think, you occasionally stumble upon a motor/box/loom for around $1200-$1500
I got this motor off a friend for nearly half that, to swap into another chassis you could do it for about 4k if it was all DIY.

Only good for 40 more HP.

It increases torque across the board which is the massive win

Looks hawt!
Versus what? cams intake ecu mods exhaust praying to jesus to make 11hp?

Tom you know better not to argue with me on tuning these cars ;)
Parts vs bolt ons in short:
Parts: Cams, thinner head gaskets, bigger TBs, extractors, exhaust, ECU, knife edged crank, o/bore pistons etc.. (basic N/A tuning philosophy)
These engines make MINIMUM 15hp @ wheels with just a catback exhaust. Add cams, and all above and you have an easy 50hp. VTEC loves to breathe.
Spoon and TODA etc, build these engines with their parts to make 260hp monsters. Thats a lot more than your 11hp !
Bolt ons such as the Jackson Racing S/C will increase Torque but is inferior to using decent N/A parts. I looked into this many years ago
Fine, built a motor. turbo it - make 350 like a boss - n/a can go play aids in the bushes once that is done

Yeah, more torque, more power and less cost, totally inferior....
Just different ways of tuning, both have their pro's and cons.
p.s. +1 for putting K24 into track hack EG!
Blake, JRSC, starts at $5500 + installation.
Intake + Cams + Extractors + exhaust + bigger TBs + ECU = ~$2500 for same power.

Well last night/today was interesting...
I was planning on doing a service on the car today and sorting out why i am not hitting the 8psi the pulleys are set up for (been lucky to get 6 since i bolted the kit on), was going to just do oils/filters etc but instead I've just spent the better half of my day since 6am repairing shit i broke last night...
Long story short, spirited right foot + 4 gears later = complete loss of boost and some nasty noises.
Limped the car home around 130am with it driving like it had a plug in the inlet. Good thing that i was only 5 mins from home.
Investigation this morning revealed all 3 bolts of the belt driven accessories tensioner sheared. Resulting in my power steering pump becoming like a "hard link" between the supercharger snout and the head.
One of the bolt's, supposed to be high tension but i guess now that it's not in the shear direction lol
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_2042.jpg
The three area's they snapped in (2 already removed)
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_2045.jpg
Once they were all successfully removed, i thought i might as-well turf the Comptech tensioner and fit my MercRacing one along with a new belt.
Old vs New
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_2043.jpg
Once that was done, off came the valve cover to inspect the timing chain and make sure nothing happened behind there too. All checked out fine but the chain was a tiny bit off OEM spec so i gave the chain tensioer a twig.
Chain tensioner (a pingpingpingping to get at with the motor in)
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_2046.jpg
Finished getting to all back together about an hour ago, went for a test drive and yes! all my boost is there! goes ALOT harder now.
Pic of it al done with the carbon rail cover on (felt like a change).

Time's come for a change in look, Guess i've gotten tired of the Enkei's over the last couple of years.

Weaksauce offset (but functional, which takes priority IMO)

IS rear wheel drive euro in plan too?
:p
Simon

Lol Chris.
I don't even know if I'm ever going to use this motor in the euro, just building it for the hell of it.
Better off smashing it into an EG

Should be N/A but yes smash it in a EG.

*update
Had the car tuned today by our Singaporean friend at Tokyo Motorsports. Excellent dyno facility.
Before i get to the results, Let me fill you in on the bullshit i had over the past two weeks.
Ok, so driving home from work one arvo (pretty much at the start of my street) my car just lost all compression.
The TODA timing chain tensioner snapped and the chain advanced 1 tooth over the exhaust cam.
Being at idle at a stop sign was the only reason i didn't smash valves into pistons. So fucking lucky.
Pushed the car into my driveway (uphill FFS) and made a couple of quick phone calls.
The next day saw it on the back of Gerrin's truck and taken to Tony Flood Mechanical.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_2194-1.jpg
Tony fitted up a new chain + my spare Hybrid Racing Tensioner. Luckily for us we found it could all be done with the motor still in the car.
Picked it up the next day and drove home without any issues.
That was Friday arvo.
Saturday i sold that sub to the Idiot i posted a thread about.
Sunday was a wedding down in Swan valley and staying the night to return home on Monday.
Drove the car down - no problems.
Enjoyed the wedding, until the idiot started that shit.
Monday morning jumped in and started to drive home, Got about 10k's from the hotel and all of a sudden my battery light comes on and the steering goes heavy. Along with a few horrible sounds coming from under the bonnet.
So i pull over, pop the hood to find my accessory belt has thrown itself off.
Another call to a tow truck, 2hr wait, no water, 40deg day, black car, in full sun..... NOT FUCKING HAPPY
Towie arrives, we get the car on and bring it home.
Now when this "genius" decided to get my car off the truck he thought it would be easy enough to just roll it off like any other car.
Long story short, after about 5 mins my bumper was well off the car (by tilt-tray force) and then thrown by me across the driveway..... ENTER RAGE MODE.
He must have seen me totally lose my shit and announces that he's not going to charge me. My response was "I wouldn't have paid your busted face anyway"
So he leaves and all is sort of calm after about 20 smokes.
Strip the car down, Blower off, Belt off, Radiator out etc.
Found yet another snapped bolt in the belt tensioner mount and a "proper fucked" CT Engineering Idler pulley.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_2225.jpg
I guess small pulley + high rpm = fail
I attempted to re-build the broken idler pulley with new bearing just incase i had to use it for tuning today. but when the bearings let go they really chewed the pulley out.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_2237.jpg
Broken bolt's were replaced pretty easily at home.
I also decided to machine out my Mercracing bracket to allow me to use the stock Honda belt tensioner with a different length belt. Easy.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_2240.jpg
Next arvo everything went back together fine and it was up and running again by 6pm, minus the bumper which i got onto the next day.
So glad i have a stockpile of spare consumable parts at home or else i wouldn't have made the tune today.
On the dyno at 1030 this morning.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/IMG_2273.jpg
I left there early today and didn't wait around for my printout but the results are:
278hp @ 7600rpm with 6psi
296Nm @ 3000rpm holding flat up to 6500
My clutch slips massively from 5000rpm onwards in 4th as was evident by the smell after the first pull.
The exhaust choked it down a fair bit too, i really need to get a 3" made for it as 2.25" is barely enough for N/A.
So maybe in a few months down the track ill get around to doing the clutch, 3" exh, 10psi pulley, New Sc inlet and give the water/meth a kick in too.
But for now, I'm knackered. Mentally and Physically.

Good enough for now, there's more to come yet.
Still I'm pretty happy with it today, my "self-tuned" ECU was pretty close to spot on with the cam/ignition timing and only the bulk fuel i dumped in having to be removed.
Exhaust, meth, clutch = another 50hp?
Great result

Thanks, it's almost worth the recent headaches. Only a few more bits to go.
Tuner reckons there's about that hiding with just clutch and 3" exhaust.
The methanol will just be a guess.
Fuck im tired now.

Not bad at all. Get the clutch sorted and you'll easily crack the 300 ATWHP. Good work mate.

Should do it easy once clutch and exhaust are done.
Atleast now all the cam/vtec/vtc/ignition tables are set, so all I really need to do is fit parts then do power runs only.

The drama continues,
Got pulled over, wasn't speeding or doing anything stupid.
Cop ran my plate and told me that the car is unregistered... Since July last year! WTF??
Called dpi and they confirmed it and also stated that the rego paperwork was sent out, then returned by the post office. Without even making it to my house.
They are doing an internal investigation "apparently" but now I have to take it over the pits.
Looks like this weekend is going to be busy, tint off, coil overs up and throw the cat in.
Other than that it should pass easy as the sc is already engineer approved.

Good news today, manipulated the system and won.
All the shit about my car being unlicensed was true, but dpi has admitted it was an internal error that caused it.
I had the dpi email me what they found and I faxed it to the police with the ref number, obviously now the dpi and police have been investigating and they called me to confirm.
All the charges against me have been dropped, my vehicle is now registered without needing inspection, and as a courtesy the dpi has provided me with 12months free registration.
Pick the plates back up on Friday.

Yeah a happy man today, I was planning on reverting it back to pretty much stock.
Glad now I don't have to and also that I didn't even touch the car since I pulled over.
Just left it in the garage.
Think I might have me a bottle of chivas regal tonight

*update*
Hoarding parts for stage 2 already.
A long awaited box arrived. :)
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/Image-3.jpg
My IMT1 inlet came.
The first one they posted somehow got sent and lost in Jamaica. IMT1 kindly offered to send a replacement item including the Acura TL 70mm throttle body adapter. All free of charge.
I'm hunting down the throttle body at the moment.
This is a very hard item to get, only a handful of people across America, or even the world have one.
I've also been offered a J's Racing titanium 70RR exhaust off a friend for a pretty good price, Looks like this
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/CFXE270RR-1.jpg
Full header-back titanium single exit piece, A little bit on the rice in regards to look and it's notoriously loud.. I mean DAMN loud.
Might not be what i need since my car is a daily grinder so i'm hesitant to throw it on yet.
And the dyno plot
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/Image1-1.jpg
Unluckily for me, i broke my foot on Monday night (drunk) so I'm now home for 6-weeks, Find out next Tuesday if i need surgery or not so until then i can't do shit all except play GT5.

*tiny update.
Some new shoes found there way on the car last week.
These make it 3 sets of wheel to pick and choose from now.... I think i have a problem with hoarding.
SSR Type C. 17x8+35
There one shade tougher than gunmetal grey, i need a badge on the side that says na na nana na na
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk172/siwood22/Image-4.jpg
Other than that, not much has changed. Brakes are becoming a priority next as they are pretty shit now.
It's been rock solid and good fun to drive over the past few weeks now my foots out of plaster.
