LJ70 import cruiser with the
High range 4wd being a buttton on the right hand side of the dash,
to select lo range its as normal through the shifter.

had it in lo, moved back up into high range, got on the road, unlocked hubs and put into 2wd now the 4wd light is staying lit up on the dash.

is this a faulty switch from the high range or is light rooted?
common fault?

is it physically stuck in 4wd or just the light stayin on?

Stuck when hubs are locked but have 2wd settings from in cabin As good as I can guess from
Launching in soft sand with mate looking to see if spinning. Unlock hubs and it's 2wd with 4wd light on

Get under it with a can of WD40, spray the connectors. Pajeros do the same thing, well flashing lights in there case. Problem solvered.

Just Pull the fuse :P

the sensors can be a bit suspect in the older gearboxes... my old Bundera had the same problem...

So it's not a mechanical problem. Simple electrical? Tried giving undercarriage a hose down tonight. Has seen a lot of mud and dust and dirt this weekend.

dan try that
if not
check for power at that switch
if there is power there
check the solinoid
ill be assuming its an electrical solinion that engages and disengages

google to see if there is a dianostic you can perform. might be warning you that there is a problem with 4x4

def the 4wd light and not the lock light? dont know much about cruisers but mates BT50 had a CW lock light that came on when he put it in 4wd but never went off, turns out there is a button for it on the dash, comes on automaticly but doesnt switch off on its own

crawl underneath the car and if you can spin your front tail shaft its a electrical fault... If you cant its still in 4wd,I would start with the solenoid, use a multimeter to find and test, if that passes Have a suck on the bottom vacuum hose that leads to the transfer on the solenoid side. it should feel constrictive and you wont get a solid vacuum if it breathes freely it could be split or dislodged, even by pass the solenoid and hook vacuum to the lower hose.It may even be lose off vacuum??... How do your brakes feel??

already tried spinning shaft, not electrical, which lead to testing the vaccume solenoid on the firewall. waiting for toyota to get a price to rape my back pocket!

Clean the solenoid out, soak it for a night. Bet its just clogged and not dead.

this is a common problem with 60/62 series cruisers, a temporary fix is to just swap over the two vacuum lines from the solenoid.

it will disengage the 4wd and turn the light off too.
to re-engage 4wd swap them back over and push the button.

two mates of mine have both been thru this before, from memory the solenoid was around $200 from a private wrecker found in the quokka.

hope this helps ya

jump onto toyodiy.com , and put in all your car details, find the actual part you want, grab the genuine toyota part number off that. then call don kyatt's for the part (easiest with genuine part number)

Solenoid was definately buggered: have since swapped the vac lines over and running it in 2wd. Will get the part number tomorrow and give that place a call.

Cheers for all the help
