Typically, in my absence form work, colleagues have taken advantage of my Mac Pro and its large flat screens to watch many dvds.
Because of this, my dvd region is now locked to an international region.

I hear you can only change it 5 times, but is there a way to unlock this?

Sometimes playing the disk in VLC works too

Cheers for that.
Just to clarify, the Mac has had its region changed 5 times and locked.
Dvds will not mount any more.

Mac the Ripper works, but is not the solution we're after :(

i'm after a PC workaround for this too... my new lappy is in some other region, despite the fact i've never watched a DVD on it (that i can remember)

My old (old [old]) imac had the same issue once, and I just re-installed the OS (although did a motherboard reset, as found via whirlpool - had a little button that reset bios + vram). Don't know if that would suit you, but it's worth a crack if all else fails.

And Mitch, have a squiz through whirlpool too, there will be an answer there. The other answer is Ubuntu.

Are you feeling that an OSX snow leopard reinstall may solve it?

May do. When I did it, I think Apple was less evil. These days, it might be different. But worth a shot if all else fails.
Dig through whirlpool and google first though. Macs can be pretty finnicky. Also try ringing someone like nextByte and get them to put your through to the tech department, I've found those guys quite helpful in the past.

Mac -> About -> System info

what's the drive model/number/firmware?
