Hi Guys,

It breaks my heart but I need to find a new home for my 13 year old black and white cat, Kichi. We've had him since 1998 when we found him in the bush as a tiny kitten in Noranda, and he's been with us in 3 different houses but now that our circumstances have changed, we can't take him to the next (Renting).

He's an outdoor cat, so you dont need to worry about hair inside the house etc, and all the care he needs is to be fed twice a day and have a full bowl of water handy. He doesnt need vet checkups etc, hes had good health and practically taken care of himself ever since day one.

Very friendly, always sits around when people come over and loves to add the occasional word in in conversations :) All he does is eat and sleep so no need to worry about him destroying your stuff - hes over that :P

If you would like to take care of him, or know someone who might (cat lovers are rare lol) then please let me know.

Thanks!

Here's a photo.

He also appreciates it if you push his arse end out around corners to initiate drifts.

suggestion.. don't tell agent, keep him. When rent inspection comes around, hide anything cat related in the house. Seeing he's an outdoor cat it makes it harder when the landlord comes around to see he's yours as it could be anyones cat. I used to have next doors cat sleep on the back veranda and we were renting. I have also rented when I had a cat and didn't tell the agent. I just hid the food and bowls ect.. Never got caught. Bit harder to hide your dog :)

you've had him 13 years, may as well see him to his end dude

Agreed, 13 years is a long time for a feline. Keep it, seriously!

yeah agreed with the other two posts. you wont want him to end up at a cat shelter. they execute them after a week or two at most

yes depending on your situation if you have rental inspections etc they need to give you some notice so before they come hide all the food bowls etc cause for all they know if could be the neighbors cat!!

agreed with keeping the cat , heaps of ppl do it , especially if it is over tearing things apart , buy a cat cage and take it to a friends place when you have your inspection , it will break the cats heart not only yours

Whoa whoa whoa, I agreed with you all and I would do it if I could. The place I'm moving into isnt just mine, i'll be subleasing so i cant.

I'm exploring a bunch of options with family members, girlfriend etc too so its not like im gonna throw him out on the street or to a cat shelter. Worst case if I cant find someone that will be able to take care of him properly I'll push to keep him at my new place.

Better to put the word out early rather than have to chuck him out at the last minute right?

Doesnt TJ like cats...?

Thats is totally UNTRUE.

We have got 3 cats from the cat shelter.

They keep them for adoption for several months.
Unless they're infected with the cat flu they will be put in quarantine and reassessed on a weekly basis.

Jacek, keep the cat!

Jacek, I've got a friend from school who works with an animal welfare place - she's really obsessed with her animals. If you end up needing to find somewhere, she can probably help. I've just sent her a msg about contact details for you.

Thanks heaps for that Aaron, not keen on taking him to a shelter but if she has a contact that would appreciate him then i'd love to meet them.

And John, I know what you mean but at the same time it's damn hard to find a place within the next few weeks, let alone a place that is the right price and will let me have a pet. In fact I dont think I've seen a rental without "no pets allowed" Talking to the room mate about it currently though :)

Cat Haven is the biggest one, it takes in 10,000 cats a year, unfortunatley 60% euthanasia rate though. They can never guarantee it won't be put down. They are the only ones that will never turn a cat away when they are full though.

http://www.cathaven.com.au/

You can try RSPCA, they don't euthanaise but they hardly take in any cats and tend to only pick young cute pedigree's and the like.

Foster care is a great option and would be the first place I'd call. Try Saving Animals from Euthanasia http://www.safeperth.com.au/

Advertising yourself on gumtree and facebook is a good way to go, but advertising free to good home can be tricky as sometimes people adopt them jsut for ratting or heaven forbid for cray bait. So you have to either put a price on it or be very careful judging the adopters.

Oh also try www.9lives.com.au cat rescue, they are another foster group.

Best of luck!

Don't know if that'll help you Jacek, but there you go :)

^^ Agreed . Jacek, if you get totally stuck , Hollys good mate Rachel works at the VET in Kingsley. She will gladly "babysit" him for you for however long it takes. she loves cats and animals. and is a very nice girl.

I went to the RSPCA a few months back and they weren't taking in cats, but as if you would want to give a cat of 13 years to them.

Good to hear dude, be sure to visit him a bit so he knows you're still around. 13 years and then just cold turkey may make him depressed and do a runner
