skid pics not loading

Tocchi

car looks good, rims do too. a touch lower on the front would be mint.

PS: did you or the previous owner cut away the centre part of the lower grill?
because it looks mint, a few of the XR6T guys have done it now, and it gives it a "oh hai there intercooler" look. i rate it :)

and what tristan said.. skid pics failing to load

thommo
03-02-2011, 02:23 PM
I knew should have got skids pics first, thats if it can turn a tyre.

may have to swap to SSL on the fronts also, or wait and get teins.

And yes I cut out the grill, takes 5mins

Tocchi
03-02-2011, 02:47 PM
haha ... oh they can ;)

regarding teins, you looking for lowwww, or just a nice height with good handling?

thumbs up regarding grill :)

Always been a fan of clean looking XR6T's, this is a fine example of one.

Needs moar low.

I want the handling and good height, not overly keen on super dumped just makes it a prick to drive around.

Dean- I would like more power but I'm just holding out for now and making the most of the warranty that's left

I'm liking the rim width and offset, especially on the rear!

Even my bf fogged up nicely while stock, you won't have issues. Keen for basic mods, then it's impossible not to turn the tyres from mid 1st to second at WOT, in street trim anyway.

Wish I had one of these fancy colours!

Bomb dude, i love the the color of these, pitty they have discontinued it... looks gorgeous in the sun....

love the rims and front bumber but more low needed :)

thommo
04-02-2011, 02:25 PM
Hopefully they havent discontinued it due to paint peeling like my old blue BF, ill be in tears haha.

Yeh springs said 30-40mm in height drop but when ive measured it from ground to guard its around 15-20mm :-/

Offset on the rear is good, need more on the front or a wider rim

the Teins would be ideal then. even better if with EDFC and swaybars .. but it all comes down to what you want to do with the car and the budget of course :)

04-02-2011, 02:36 PM
ahhhhh so that was you that dropped past my house with daz the other day. car looks good man!. would look better doing skids haha

thommo
04-02-2011, 02:37 PM
How often do you adjust your EDFC though ?

sways are first on the list, probably get them next week or so.

well if you happen to bin yours at a track day ill willingly purchase all your parts :P

Tocchi
04-02-2011, 02:40 PM
i always adjust it, cos it makes electronic beeping noises n stuff.
but seriously, for me, on the road, makes no difference, as low + wheel fitment + fixed back seat = not the best ride comfort in any case, so its hard and hard regardless of setting. haha

on the track, MASSIVE difference, plus it saves me from fiddling under the ECU (in engine bay) and under the expansion tank, and rear seats to adjust the dampening settings when i do go to the track .. which i can adjust on the fly with the EDFC.

-.- ... i see what you did there :p

thommo
04-02-2011, 02:43 PM
the teins i had in my aristo were rather harsh too, rear passengers needed a kidney belt.

Yer getting to the strut tops is a prick which i found out when i did the springs. Ill see how these go and may need to upgrade to them in the future, brakes first..

Tocchi
04-02-2011, 02:47 PM
oh its not that bad in the falcons if you go Super Street version, i have them, they are good on the track.
they have another version, Performance ones or something, spring rate is a lot higher... for track, i think these would be too hard for Perth, car would be bouncing all over Barbagallo's surface.

good move with the brake upgrade - stock brakes scare the shit out of me in the FG XR's haha

thommo
04-02-2011, 02:48 PM
Everyone seems to be selling the 6pot fronts but i cant seem to find rears for FG. Are they the same rears as BA/BF ?

Tocchi
04-02-2011, 02:55 PM
my rear 4 pots came off a BF GT i believe.
i know the B series 6 pots need modification to suit FG, so its easier to buy the FG fronts. (due to caliper position is 90 degrees different between models)

but i believe ford kept the rears in the same position, so the B series works.

got my rear kit (rotors, 4 pot calipers, brakelines, pads, brackets, etc) for $2k supplied, from Ferntree Gully Salvage. they are a sponsor on a few of the falcon websites

thommo
04-02-2011, 02:59 PM
Thats the best thing the ones people are selling are for FG and no one else can really use them without new brackets. thats easier then finding a b series rear set

Tocchi
04-02-2011, 03:08 PM
yeah and the caliper lines have to be modified or something to retrofit or something

agree with the guys above..
bootlid spoiler - yes, ditch mudflaps, xr8 bonnet - possibly hard to colour match to mystic?

thommo
09-02-2011, 08:10 AM

I'll get flaps off this week.

I agree front does need to be much lower, coilovers one day..

i think lower 1" all round, change over the rear chrome garnish for colour coded, and go XR50 tail lights and it will be all kinds of win.

Turbo2.6L
06-11-2011, 07:31 PM
Are they RDA Rotors? Pretty sure they are something like $299 on Fleabay, so could save a few bucks buying seperately...

thommo
06-11-2011, 07:34 PM
Ill have to check it out, you and matt both having brembos on your vehicles standard type would be shit in comparison to slotted/drill etc ?

Tocchi
06-11-2011, 07:54 PM
the factory brembo rotors are crap... they lip quickly, and crack around the holes ... just get slotted ones :)

Turbo2.6L
06-11-2011, 07:59 PM
Definitely get slotted over cross-drilled if the option presents itself. Have heard good things about the RDA range for what you pay, although never going to be on par with Brembo/AP/Project MU etc.

The squeak f the project mu pads is funny though as slow speed stop, racecaralot of the slow speed squeak can be resolved with some high temp lube (fuck knows what its called) that you put on the backing plate of the pads (well it was resolved for me anyway). The xyz coilovers feel great, ride is set fairly frm. I think the biggest helper is that I have the swaybars too. Bring the power followed by no limits nights

interesting, obviously utilising a pod filter inside?

Tocchi
31-05-2012, 03:08 PM
yeah the pod filter would be right up near the hose clamp of course, similar to the new 5L SC factory setup

The cooler is good another guys running one with plazmaman stage 2 piping (larger diameter) with gtx3582r with 398rwkw which is plenty. Plus I didn't want to get the grinder out to make it fit.

Airbox is a herrod Motorsport one, they've just been released and look very OEM

Yeh basically same as sc v8 but enclosed

Nice airbox. Replace plastic oil cap! Unless FGs have a proper metal one that doesn't risk falling to bits.

thommo
31-05-2012, 09:43 PM
the oil caps break ?

Yea, heard they can seize then snap off when you try to take it off.

Phyber

As it gets older would be more of a worry, thread getting brittle etc. There's a few options like Plazmaman or the supercheap ones you can peel the metal sticker label off of. Plazzy would go better with the power steering spill tray though :)

or even badged XR :

Slight update:

Car got serviced and tuned today. Results werent too bad but I choked on getting basic mods when i should have got the best intercooler and best exhaust so its not a restriction on when i want to go for more power. Also had the ZF tune done and the shifts are much firmer.

Nice one man. Let me know what you think of the ZF tune, like if it makes the whole driving experience more fun or does it make the car become harder to drive and you have to be more cautious when its changing gears and stepping out on you..etc.

almost a 1000NM... shiiiiit

thommo

I actually think its 600nm looking at that derived nm graph if I took the photo properly.

The tune on the box is good but I'd say in the wet it will step out

Car is pretty much complete cosmetically now (unless you can class rear brembos as cosmetic), im pretty happy !

Went to get the black roof strips done too but their batch of double sided tape is possibly the strongest thing ford has produced. Me n the panel bloke just couldnt get them to come off without the chance of damaging the surrounding paint. Just gonna give them a clean with wax/grease remover to get the polish residue off and then use some silicon based bumper restore. Hopefully that stops the polish being left on it as much

So last time at drags stock car 13.14 @ 107mph

Last night:
Run1) 13.307 @ 115.38mph with 2.306 60ft
Run2) 12.932 @ 115.08mph with 2.187 60ft
Run3) 13.100 @ 115.23mph with 2.437 60ft

The wheel spin actually had me laughing had to get off throttle multiple times

Trying to take it slowly off the line to limit wheel spin but it just breaks out at in the mid/top rev range of 2nd

All runs done just clicked across to performance mode

Time to get some real rubber instead of the cheapo's im trying to wear out

Suggestions on good street/strip rubber. Was thinking of getting Nitto NT05 for the rear

Federal 595RS or Nexen N3000 ... I've run 1.9 60 foot on both these tyres (and they're relatively cheap).

Turbo2.6L
13-09-2012, 11:15 AM
For the torque the falcons produce, Nexens & Federals don't cut it imo. R1R's or NT05's seem the best in the value range according to past experience :D

Phyber
13-09-2012, 11:50 AM
People are also loving Nitto Invos, I run them on the fronts and rate them. They will not be as grippy as the Nitto NT05's but people are still running low 11's on them, rednose over on the turbo falcon forum "Went 11.2 @128 on 275/30/19 Invos tonight." - those are the 220 treadwear versions according to him.

thommo, looks good :) .. check your bumpstops, if it is sitting on them, then it will be preloading your IRS and thus causing your diff bushes to tear.
what ones did you go for ?

thommo

The reason the diff bushes broke is the main bolt wasn't put in tightly as had movement. Plus they were the semi comfort ones now they're all solids.

Tyres are great I originally had nt05 fronts and archillies rears, kinda felt like driving a forklift around front was solid but rear floated around everywhere. If you launch it hard it will bake, but once heat is in the rear I can comfortably hold full throttle 0-120+ before it would break out at around 70-80

Anyone interested in a good vehicle for daily driving or track work?

Looking to move it on soon, hardly drive it due to work and when I do it's to the shops or airport.
Someone else needs to make the most of this setup and put it to use!

Tocchi needs another FG
