whilst on the topic of weird tasting stuff from the orient, have any of you tried ube icecream?
http://icecreamjournal.turkeyhill.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/ube-ice-cream.jpg
The purple scoop pictured above isn’t something you’re likely to find at your local grocery store or even your local ice cream shop. It’s called Ube Ice Cream and it’s a very popular flavor in the Philippines. The sweet treat gets its unique color from the ube (“ooo-bee” or “ooo-bay”), an incredibly vibrant, sweet, purple yam used in a variety of Filipino desserts (like ube cake, ube buns, and ube macaroons ). Since we’ve never had Ube Ice Cream, we can’t attest to its flavor, but it sure does look good, especially with that oh-so-tempting drip about to fall off the right side!
the people that wrote this article are lucky, i too thought that looks tasty whilst i was in Hong Kong, expecting a sorbet type flavour, so so very wrong.
It's yam. Personally I think it's gross but a lot of people like it. It tastes nothing like the grapey appearance might suggest! Also, the mooncake with the green outside layer is the best.

i had the green moon cake.
it tasted like a soggy icecream cone full of toothpaste, and was promptly thrown at Ross' office.
I guess that's why they invented dishes like honey chicken and serve it as "chinese" food.

LOL @ ice cream cone full of toothpaste.
Weirdest Asian food I've had - Haw Flakes.
I think they're made from fruit, they have a really bizzare texture.

i'm all for trying different foods, but so far asian deserts/sweets have been less than desirable.
how the fuck can there be a wrong moon cake??
You tell me Ross... You tell me
Those are the bomb, but the ones here are shit. When mitchy said you threw them at buildings they stuck I knew which ones you were talking about straight away.
You want these ones with the Lotus paste inside

The semi-chicken foetus is only cooked long enough to solidify the egg whites by the looks of it..

I thought the only Chinese dessert that existed was deep fried icecream????

Honestly dolphin was chewy as all hell and i didnt really rate it.

Similar experience to me. The whale was basically a fatty tuna, nothing special. On the other hand the horse was really nice. It tasted like a cross between lamb and beef.
