Like I said the other night dude. Gotta have a toy!
Be very different to drive than the old Evo, thats for sure.
31-EVO
01-02-2011, 06:10 PM
civic > evo ? I'm a wee bit confuzzled. Either way, they don't handle badly that is for sure, and you can ring their necks fairly hard.
Lonewolf
01-02-2011, 06:17 PM
good stuff, they make great track cars.
May I suggest some proper engine management, something like a Hondata should make a world of difference, especially if you go ahead and do cams etc.
wilwood kit didnt fit the car, or under the rims?
also, put an LSD in it, seriously help your laptimes with one.
c.rusli
01-02-2011, 06:51 PM
Wilwood didn't fit on the knuckle.
I bought the kit off a friend who said it could fit my car if I changed the knuckle to suit for ek civic.
After further research ek civic knuckle will screw up the suspension geometry by adding ridicule amount of +ve cambers and pulling the wheels closer to the firewall instead of what we want (away)
Thnks for the advices guys.
With hondata I have fiddle around with the wiring as its obd0 not obd1 or 2 therefore need the loom adapter, not only that.
Needs obd1 dizzy, 4wires o2.
Can be done but not at current state :p
Yeeep LSD and final drive is next on list. As I having a bad time driving it arround barb with 4.4 FD as I would be out off the power band arround the corner and exit. If I drop a gear I would slow down a lot and really not ideal

type-r box would be nice I guess, shorter FD and helical LSD + better ratios?
Nice,

Yes it would be but..
im running cable box instead of hydro box.. OLD school FTW! lol
needs few parts and conversion kits which more than the cost as just getting
new FD and Plates LSD..
Nice,

Twilight Sprint @ Speed Event Series Barbagallo Short
Sat 5/2/11
Bad weekend!
I have alignment problem on the front of the car prior to the event.
For left camber could not go more than -0.35 while the left is on -1.4
I had camber arms installed earlier and it didnt help at all.
went for a practice runs during the day and immediately adjustable camber arm bolts coming loose (Both side R&L), so every corners that i took the camber is always changing and knocking side to side..
Pulled out went to the pit, and all the adjustment bolts are coming loose! so i tightened them up quiet tight and didn't give me any drama through out the night, except that after that incidents.. my alignment might has gone off... car handling didn't feel as what it was before..
Through the runs, i made a lot of driving mistakes.. which i wasn't quiet happy! but yeah nothing that i can do, until i improve my driving.
Did 2 runs and we all went for a dinner brake. checked everything on the car and its all good to go... for another 2 runs
when i was on the 3rd runs i did 2 flying laps (1 run - 3 fly lap) and the clutch blew on the final flying laps on the main straight when i shifted from 3rd - 4th.
Lost drive on the car, i could get into gears easily but the car isn't moving.. so i pulled out to the side to avoid the traffic that's coming.
Finally i got pulled out from the track to the pit area, and i have a close inspection of the car.
Clutch cable is fine
gear box seems fine ( shift 1-5 and Reverse)
Drive line and CV's are looking fine as well ..
so it might be clutch problem.. i can move the car in 1st and reverse by few centis when the clutch is engage.. and thats about it..
So i finish off my night with a broken car and last post on the Class with 62.3x Sec :( far from my PB...
But my Drama doesn't end there!
Car is undriveable so i call in a tow truck.
Got all sorted then i hitch a ride with a mate then headed home with the tow truck followed behind us.
While we were on the way just off Barbs @ Joondaloop drive and BurnsBeach Road, cops had set up RBT and stop us..
We pass through but i had concern that the tow truck driver is not going to pass.. so we watch closely on our rear view mirror and he got done by the cops.
Tow truck got park on the side of the road with my car on top of it. Driver blow over the limit 0.8x and what worst is that the Driver doesn't have a driving licence! Yeep he doesn't have any...
So the tow truck is impounded automatically, and my car were lowered on the spot when the tow truck is being towed... and i called up another tow truck and this time.. i make sure that his not drunk and have a licence LOL!
Finally it got to my place and all sorted out.. after a long shitty weekend!
The car is getting towed to my mech now as i type, to check out whats the actual problem..
hope nothing major! and i'll keep ya posted :)

Hahaha what a cock!
Lucky your car wasn't impounded along with the truck.

07-02-2011, 02:34 PM
lol... civic breaks more than the evo better go back to turbo la :p
What was the issue with the alignment? how come you could not get the same camber left and right?
c.rusli
07-02-2011, 02:41 PM
not sure yet.. ill check the arms when i get the car back.
could be a miss match lower arm ..
will have to measure the length of the lower arm L & R
Miss match camber arms?
or have been in front accident..
I'll have to give a closer inspect latter .. :(

Stock civic clutches are very weak and will fail if you increase the power or race.

Bit of updates:
Went in Antilag Dyno Dat at WA perfomance.
The civic did 117 Hp... i was hopping for the lowest HP but Ben Johnson stole it from me as he did 111 HP.. DAMN!!
anyway, the car did pretty well i guess with how old the engine is and being a first generation b16. 20 year old or so?
Performance mods:
Skunk2 Pro intake manifold (Still runs std TB)
4-2-1 Header 2" collector (from zack dont know what brand)
2.5" cat
2.5" mandrel bend cat back (2 resonator and 1 muffler)
HKS intake arm (Add on with the stock pipe)
Cypher Industry Air intake
No tune
Standard Vtec engagement.
but what worries me is the AFR is quiet lean when VTEC hits.. I'll try to post up pictures once i get the dyno sheet. (currently being uploaded etc on from Antilag)
In other news I've make a quick fix for the camber arm. ::)
changing the bolts to a slightly longer high tensile, spring washer and a thicker washer.
hopefully this would do the trick..
here some pictures to compare them..
Sh1t bolts with crappy thin washer that were deformed badly
http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr208/040501912/VTEC%20TIME/IMG-20110222-00094.jpg
i did a quick fix to change the washer to double thin washer with wider ring
http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr208/040501912/VTEC%20TIME/IMG-20110222-00095.jpg
and this is the replacement for it.. (8 of them!)
http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr208/040501912/VTEC%20TIME/IMG-20110222-00096.jpg
Here is the comparison!
http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr208/040501912/VTEC%20TIME/IMG-20110222-00097.jpg
Hope that last me until my next camber arm! lol..

the AFR's were interesting.
It looked like you went rich at the top of the bottom lobes, then again at the top of the high lobes.
You should be aiming for 12.5-13:1 accross the board based on my experience with my old VVL motor.
good power for an old motor!

Abit of report from the SpeedAware RallySprint.
Great night had! I realy recomended for those who wants something quiet different for their track work.
some tricky corners arround the track.
Handling wise the car behave what is should do, cant complain more.rather than just usual technical difficulties.. (i think there is a gremlin in the car)
Good:
*The federal 595 RS-R was handling quiet well! against those boys with their semis
*Sh1ty Camber arms didnt even budges :) so that bolt upgrade was a good move!
*Brakes handles quiet well although some smokey moment but.. its all good..
Bad:
*Prior to the event - vtec isnt engaging, found out that the wire has come loose on the solenoid (quick fix cut and extended, all work now :))
*Check light comes on, on one of the run - car goes limp mode only allows me to rev to 6.5k rpm.. grrrrr...
we've found out that Vac leak that caused the check light, it come from m a split hose where the stock FPR is.
quick fix by borrowing from my co-driver evo lol...
*Driver need to have bigger balls to go faster arround the corners and brake late.. ahahahahah (but the walls are so scary :()
FYI Since it was a hot night, and aircond pump can't turn off.. we run with aircond all night.. seriously.. it was worth it in way its bad too lol.. ;D
I'm Still waiting for official timming
3 runs out of 4 is counts.
these are the times from our own time cards
run 1 - 2:59
run 2 - 3:00
run 3 - timming stufs up (vac leak and check light)
run 4 - 2:55 <- brake late, improved driving but why i didnt do it earlier :( ....
Oh and i pick up a half cage yesterday :)
waiting funds to clear and get them courier from brisbane...
Saftey come first... and also wank factor is also priority LOL!

big duration!
going to love the revs, which'll suit the b16.
are you doing anything with cam gears?
Mine did 14.1 with a 2.6 60' at the strip - e.g shit launch
1:04's at wanneroo short track on nexen n6000's

Still need few more bits and pieces to do up the head work.
needs
Cam Gears, new belts
valve spring, retainers
new seals, Head Gasket
and still figuring out if converting to obd1 or 2 is worth it (so i can ran PFC or hondata)
I'll do those in latter stage.. handling > Power > Cosmetic HAHAHA
i still have to remind my self to paint the car.. :(
anyhow What car did you had before lonewolf?
sounds like you have 1 mighty car before :p
Lonewolf
07-03-2011, 11:18 PM
engine management is pretty important if you want to make the most of all your boltons, but depends on the costs/effort required I guess.
cam gears will help you to be able to dial in the power to your rev limit a bit better.

was a good car, will build another one day.
Your civic will be much faster around the track, especially with the work you're doing to it, they're perfect track weapons.

If it were me (and its not), I would start again but with a different engine.
I have been down the path of trying to squeeze as much power from a small B16A and its painfully expensive for minimal returns.
Look around for a K20A or a JDM B18cR. They're cheap these days and offer far more power and tuning options - including more power for money spent.
PLUS they are also a direct bolt in.
My old B18c EK Civic put out 165kw @ engine. A K20A will be more around 200kw with the money you are planning to spend.
Lonewolf loves to bring up old jokes but they're well past their use-by date.

i went to my mech to fit the LSD over this couple of days
Thred here - http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?147568-MFactoryFinal-drive-did-not-fit-in-Diff
HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!
The bolts head are too high to clear the 1st gear
http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/190634_10150183344470953_602185952_8587929_6578067 _n.jpg
I've exchange calls and emails with Leo and Evan from MFactory for this past days and we draw a conclusion that my gearbox was apprently one of the odd box that have this problem.
usually it all fit like stock.. BUT not mine!!
here is one of the reply, it might help you guys in the future who have this problem - hopefully not!
Hi Chris,
Ok - spoken to the engineer. Apparently, in some cases, the boxes may need some work - you seem to have this one of these - but the fitment is easily resolved.
1) On the plate LSD's, the ring gear fits on opposite side of the flange (so your mechanic did this correctly)
2) Use a dremel and clearance the bellhousing so that the ring gear slots in - just remove enough material for the ring gear to slot it and not touch.
3) Once you've confirmed that the clearances are properly checked, you may just need to then shave the bolt heads to it does not interfere with the underside of the 1st gear.
He's encountered only 2 such cases since starting MFactory - and you're, unfortunately, the 3rd. however, like I said, easily resolved.
Sorry for the delay but hope that helps and let me know if you need further help.
Evan
So bolts are send to machinist to get it lathe/milled down a couple mm to be safe..
hope it would be smooth sail from now on..
PS:
Thanks for the guys from MFactory to give an awesome customer support! i cant recommended them more than what i already have.
although i was a bit disappointed that it was not all bolt it and out like what i hope...

Since the 1/2 cage did not fit like what i wanted it to be so i've look at some other ways to
strengthen the grandpa car
UltraRacing..
Front Lower Tie bar
Rear Strut bar
Floor bar
they arrived today at my office and its less than 1 week!! Amazing...
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/189904_10150187503255953_602185952_8629270_2054383 _n.jpg
I did unwrapped it but there is too much to do.. might continue unwrapped it at home :p
i was also looking at their fender brace.. but i'll test this one out and see if i still need more bracing or not...
more stuff should be coming this week! (I hope :() I'll keep it posted..
Cheers,
Chris

nice, did you buy from Heeltoe?
his shipping is pretty quick.
You will find that floor brace will do more for the car than both the rear sway and strut braces together
I built my own floor bar in an old EG, binned the spoon braces after that went in lol

I was pretty keen on those ULTRA Racing products until I heard they're heavy as fuck... Keen on weighing them?
c.rusli
28-03-2011, 04:24 PM
I dont think they are as heavy as you think ..
well comparing it to an soft aluminum braces with hinges and bolts? which are flexes alot...
Ultra racing is way much better... :) for its prices and functionality..
its weighted at 4.4 kg on the delivery dockets.
thats for 3 bars

Sorry about the Picture quality..
Top is Standard speed sensor gear
Bottom is MFactory Speed Sensor Gear...
My mech call me up late afternoon and told me that the shaft was too short and speedo wont work. so... another play arround with the shaft and decided to take off the gear from the mfactory shaft and put it on to the standard shaft.
Done solve the problem :)
Now i learn that NEVER believe that aftermarket will BOLT ON! ......
Hard Lesson Learn.. lol!
Car is out of mech.
having a bit of drive arround the block..
car is wierd now arround the corner..
i think i need to get familirised with the LSD
clunky noise on slow speed corner (sounds like skyline with locker diff....)
will pay more attention to that.. see if its just the run in..
also one of my supplier called me up that Coilovers arrived this afternoon too!! and will be fitted on wednesday.. free fitment.. cant resist.. lol!
i will be putting some of the bars tonight ;) and see if that "bolt ons" hahahah

if its a plated LSD, you should run it in with figure 8's in a carpark to help it bed in correctly.

Depends
Kaaz uses the figure 8 method
Nismo say "After Installation, test drive the vehicle for about 180miles (300km) at speed less than 40mph (60kmh). Avoid any quick maneuvers"
Just depends on the manufacture, best bet is just to change the oil after 500km

Took the car to RAC driving centre today...
to watch TokyoMotorsport Skid Pan day for the evos..
wasnt there to play :p but to watch..
couldnt hold my self back, i ask my mate Franz and Danny to have a drive in the Civic ..
here is the first drive - Franz
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TNkD7mRD1o4?hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TNkD7mRD1o4?hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
didnt get the video when Danny was driving it..
but over all i was happy by watching the car behave around the cones and Franz and Danny was quite thrilled with the car.. handling and *power* <- sarcastic way.. hahaha..
First shake down after couple month of workshop trips.. has paid off :)
big smile on my face now.. :p

Since Last update,
I Finished Running in the LSD, dump the Honda MTF out..
Motul FF Competition Type 2 75w-90 is in now..
Honda - Clunky clunky clunky..
Motul - Very quiet..
Will see how the Motul goes on the track... in few weeks time.
I also Re-do the Exhaust mid pipe, as it was having a small leak.
Before - Header - Cat - Resonator - Resonator - Muffler Box
Now - Header - Resonato - Mufler box
to my suprise, it didnt increase the loudness by far.. ;)
The main problem now, is that i'm having such a bad fuel consumption
20 L only gets me 150km good driving.. =/ EEEEKkkkk.......
All the ITC and AFC are all on 0 settings and not tuned..
any idea whats causing it??

Update:
DIY Skunk2 Camber arm modification
http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/207091_10150229159060953_602185952_8710726_3723315 _n.jpg
i made a C section cut on the arm, to clear my trailing arm, which been hitting the camber arm for sometimes on a full up travel.
like illustrate here
http://a.imageshack.us/img153/7782/bonez.jpg
i haven't test it on the road yet, but i hope that is wide and tall enough.
i did a trial with jack, simulate full travel, it clears it by miles, but im not sure how it will clear side ways.
Will keep it posted ;)

THe C cut away section on the camber arm seems to do its job, but i still have a knock on left side. will give a check today, see if i have made the same cut away with teh other side.. silly..
UPDATE:
New 68mm Throttle body :)
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/215078_10150231098545953_602185952_8725160_2898237 _n.jpg
it was quite fidly to be put on the old OBD0 T/B b16, as it was slightly different..
and mind you that the stock one was only 58mm .. =/
but with abit of muck around and re-route the vac lines and also a dummy Map sensor.
the OBD0 b16 had a separate map sensor, which isnt stuck on the Throttle body, so we source one a map sensor and put it there to plug the vac hole! lol...
All good, no check light ;)
I tried to fit my stock piping back, but it did not work.. as the T/B size was totally different.
so i went down to hunt for 3" to 3" 45 angle and source me self a 3" pipe from my mech.
Wallaaah i present you gettthoo intake! lol....
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/217563_10150231097965953_602185952_8725150_4427684 _n.jpg
made a hole for the breather hose, and all i need now is a new hose or catch can...
still thinking which way should i go... hmmmmm...

UPDATE: ;D
on Thursday 14/4 Went to allstar to get a tune and tried to re-wire the apexi ITC,
but some how, we couldnt figure out the wiring for the ignition as there is
not much info on how to rewire it to the obd0 ecu so we decided to just ditch the ITC.
When i pick up the car in late afternoon sean told me there is check light that
made the car goes on limp after vtec. and rev cut at 7200 rpm..
which is wierd..
so sean ask me to go back on monday and see if we could play arround with the vtec
controller, it could be that he set it up to low.
which he did .. at 4800 rpm.. LOL..
at this stage the car is making 127hp @ 7200 on the hub and sorry dont know whats the Tourqe is, even with the limp mode.
after a few taught it could be the vtec controller that playing up and dissagree with
the ecu so i took off the buddy club vcon. whilst doing this i took off the ITC at the same time.
and i even managed to sold the ITC on friday night lol!
i would rather run stock vtec / ecu controlled vtec then messing up with the vtec controller on piggy back set up..
Monday 18/4
Went early morning to get another power run, it seems that the car having some issues..
we did 5 power runs and only 2 runs the vtec kicks in..
90hp when no vtec and 124hp on vtec
whilst the car was on dyno, the car was creating lots off exhaust leak sound!!
which i wasnt expecting!!!
and the vtec cut was @ 7800 - 7900 this time, which is better than last time but was off from
the stock rev cut which is @ 8100-8200
here is the vid where is there is no vtec, and u can hear the exhaust back flame from the leaky collector
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Jldt0GsFOs&feature=player_embedded
so we got the car off the dyno and check the check light and it shows code 22
after a quick good i found that itis pressure switch sensor problem.
after half a day trying to figure out whats wrong with the car, i gave Zac a call and he
offer me a spare vtec assembly (solenoid and pressure switch sensor) which i picked up latter on
on the day.
Got home early from work and start diagnosing the car faults. firstly i was trying to find that
awful leak noise and i found the culprit! one of the nuts/bolts was missing from the collectors!!
went for a quick shop get me self new nut and bolts and high temp silicone gasket.
in my horror shock! the collector was only held by 2 nuts which was also loose and was on the way out! you can litter ally put your finger between the gap!!! :-X
which means that i've been running on dyno with MASSSIVVE MASSIVE exhaust leak... but!! suprisingly
it still making 124 hp lol!!
so i sort that out out and make sure that the new set of nuts/bolts wouldnt come off :).
then i started to work on the new pressure switch which i get from zac, simply unbolt and bolt new
one with new o ring gasket.. went for a quick short drive.. and i was feeling so much more power on the wheels
after the exhaust was fix!! LOL!!!..
this is what happen when you dont really drive the car much.. and u just forgot whats the sound
the car should be making.. ahahaah (silly mistake!)
whilst i was on the drive, another check light come on... and stil only reved to 7800 !!!i was so devastated!!! after a close view
i found out the code 3 which is MAP sensor
I rewire the map sensor to a new map sensor which located on the new t/b and ditch the stock firewall MAP sensor.
went for another 15 min drive and it seems like it sort out my check light gremlin!! rev beautifully to 8100-8200 and car feels faster and stronger than ever!! but im not holding my
hope high yet until a full drive tomorrow...
one hektik day i say!!
Hope everything goes all right tomorrow and Antilag Time attack night @ barb short.
i will be off to my mech to bled the brakes in the morning and wheel alignment ;)
I'll update you with track report tomorrow :) hope i crack my PB!!!
PS: Dyno numbers are from ASG dyno (dyno dynamics) - which is about 20-30 hp higher than roller dyno.

Track update:
19/04
Got to my mech, bleed the brakes and do routine check up. and the car is good to go..
get the wheel alignment done as well...
BUT!! the ecu has thrown me another code 3 ... (MAP sensor) So i just decided to ignore it and went for the race at night
To my supprise there was huge turn outs and spectators at the Time attack!
about 40 cars registered and divided to 6 classes
AWD R comps
AWD Street
RWD R comps
RWD Street
FWD R comps
FWD Street
Its @ Barbagallo Short track
for the night theres only 3 FWD class..
as usual Antilag "group" of stereo type gang RWD or AWD ... Fwd is just for Pussyyyees...
First thing i do.. i went to the weight bridge.. and weight the car up.. its 933 kg
with 3/4 and abit more of fuel tank..
DAMN!! i was hopping 900 kg with the amount of trims i took off!! :( but meeh i can live with it .. lol!
After all the neccessary briefing, sign on, and organized
I tried to group my self up with the guys that's been on the track before and making reasonable time...
as this is the first time Antilag organizing with No limits Event a track night for the members of the forum.
There is a few skilled full driver out there~! and really really fast cars!!!
its just amazing!! good that they use the car and push it hard on the track. rather than just cruising and hard park it.. LOL :p
i got about 6-7 session out there .. *i lost count! lol
a session is 1 warm, 3 fly, 1 cool
Went out on my first session..
as i suspect.. vtec is not engaging right... so i was running with out vtec for half of the time.. pretty gheeeey!!!!
well there is give and take to it..
the LSD and Final drives, New coilovers, does make huge huge different!!
and this session there wasnt time recorded yet.. as some people are just getting familirised with the track.. *newbie and first timer..
i recorded peak 143 kmh .. from the gps.. soo okaay thats my base run with vtec falling out and check light...
i havnt been goes to any track night with the car for 2 months.. so at this stages im still getting my confidence back and re learn the car..
it is a totally a whole new set up and new ball game for me..
after a few session up im starting to get my hand to it and getting more relax.. and i couldnt remember which session it was, i went to check the
time board and i did 60.4 sec! i was stoked!! wow!! i droped about 1.3 sec off my PB even with the gremlins i have!!
towards the end of the night.. most people went home or not intrested anymore with it.. so we got the track opens up with less car.. more track time!!
and as soon this opportunity come, i only waited 15 minutes before i can go out again.. instead of 30 min or so before..
Tyres were going low on thread.. i've used this tyres since last year when i started doing competition event with the proton.. it has survive until now! :p
but i can feel its started to loose some grip..
i swaped the front tyre (which is on the wear mark at the inside of the tyre) to the back and swap the back to front.. towards the end of the night.
the fell of the rear is start to slid out little by little..
i didnt expect much from it ... as i know its going bald aniway lol :p
This is when the gearbox started to play up on me... as it gets heated up.. its very hard for me to shift from 3rd to 4th on high rev!
it just could get in.. when it does.. it crunches a little bit..
after talking to a friend of mine, senna.. we use the same oil Motul FF competition type2 LSD gearbox oil.
he had the same problem with his fn2r.. gearbox gots hot.. its is hard to shft. as well.. so i migth look for another solution for this.
all night it was fun arround the track and luckily i was out with good group of drivers and cars.. there is of course a few moments when things get
a little hairy with some of the people.. but hey! its all good.. we all had fun and enjoy the night.
on the very last session i went to.. its about 10.15 pm or so.. i did make a new PB !! 60.33 Horraaay!!! but what im looking for is for those 2 fwd that
is in my class.. there were aiming for me.. and i was scared that they going to beat my times lol..
and i recorded my fastest speed as well at 155 kmh...
3 of us (fwd) try to go out at the same time on any session and try to push our self harder out there..
I did 60.33 - Federal 595 RSR
Ben Johnson 60.5 (Fiesta XR4) - Z1 Star spec
Adam Johnson 61 (Targa spec Clio) - Ku 36
3 off us using similar tyres as well which is advertised as semis.. but they are really just high end road tyres really..
Climax of the night..
- Vtec not working, check light comes on.. quickly grab the igntion key switch it back and on as fast as possible so the ecu reset it self...
it works! but i would say its stupid and dangerous ahahah! meeeeeh.. i need to win..!! =p
- over taking a few high HP cars.. and pushing them out the way.. never been fun as before.. Thank you for whom let me pass on the straight although i could not make it faster on the straight as you guys out there..
- got lapped by friend Irwin Lim (4wd winner r comps 53.8 sec) and he taught i was on my cool down lap.. but i was still on my flying lap! and block me up
on the corners as he was cooling down.. LOL!!..
- the battle of fwd cars!! 3 of us were just chasing each other asses and try to see the different lines we took lol...
- love the new set up of the car LSD and Final drive.. its just awesome
- coilovers doing great! 16kg and 12 kg spring rates does work pretty well on the track!!
- Won the FWD class!!
My Drama with the car that night...
- Speed sensor is faulty too.. so vtec is disturbed
- faulty map sensor which throws me check light and disabble the vtec occasionally (but i took care of that with my quick key flicking lol)
- gearbox gets crunchy once its heated up
- tyres are getting slippery as its going low on thread
I hope i could fix these gremlins out and sweep it out soon.. irs really realy really annoying and such a PITA!!!
There was only 3 cars that were competing in FWD class and with the tryes that we are running..
which is really its between street tyres / semis..
Since i was the fastest FWD on the night.. they gave me Winner of FWD R Comp tyres
and Ben johnson was given the Winner of FWD Street tyres
i cant complain much really.. I WON! but really i think 595 RSR is street tyres. HAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!
I will try to post some pictures up, when some upload it ahhahaha.. no cameras with me.. so i have to rely on others :p
I only have this for now.. :p

Since i ran the Spoon ECU
there is no error code thrown at me at all...
which is WONDERFUL!!!
tried play around with the vtec controller, adjusting it low and high 2000 rpm to 5000 rpm - no check light
try on different load, 1/4 1/2 3/4 and full throttle - no check light
drove around in total of about 1hour or so? with out resetting the ecu (battery off)
*previous problem
Check light would come on if i vtec kicks in
Error Code 3 (map sensor) and code 17 (VSS) on the ecu LED and then couple second latter it goes check lights is on
Since i change the LSD and Final drive, my VSS is playing up
sometimes it reads okay (although 15km/h out)
Jumping around like a crazy bean
and also sometimes it goes 0 but this is the only time when the checklight goes on no speed reading (code 17)
Changed the map sensor but still throws me code 3...
but so far no problem with the spoon ecu ... no code thrown on the ECU led although the VSS problem still there but no check light.. heeem.. scratch head..
I then dissect the stock ecu..
in my horror this is what i found..
from the top

http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr208/040501912/VTEC%20TIME/IMG-20110428-00256.jpg
Looks like water mark?
there is rust and white residue...
LOL.... WTF....
i have no idea whats going on there..
i did opened up the Spoon ecu to check, and it was clean ass! and of course the Spoon chip is dwelling there.. :p
I've been advised to advance the dizzy timing by 17 degree and retuned the car..
so car will be back and the dyno and re-check everything pretty soon :)
and so 1 problem is solve (sort off), i think i need to check my 4th gear synchross or change the gearbox fluid..
when the box is hot at the track, i got crunch on 4th at high rpm shift above 5k... but fine on the street...
one after another! aaah joy of racing and old car.. LOL!!

Currently the car is off the road for doing some major work on the engine and the engine mounts.
we found out that The person who did the swap before, hacked up few mounting points and engine mount it self to fit the engine in. luckily one of the mount packed up so i can replace it Properly...
Also we are doing to head work, oil has been leaking out from between the head and the block. i made the call to recond the head and do some work on it.
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/292966_10150354790120953_602185952_9909332_6082526 _n.jpg

>the valve springs and retainers
>all new 16 new valves and guides are in as well, Few valves and guides are worn out while we reconditioning the head.
>3 angle jobs on the valves seats
>Acid Bath
and here is the final result..
Clean Spanking head ;)

Had few problems with the 4th Gear on antilag time attack night. i can hardly find 4th gear once the gearbox is hot.. :S
so decided to rip that box out open again and replaced the snychros.
I order up Carbon Lined Synchros for 1st to 5th gear
http://www.teammfactory.com/images/catalog/carbonsync.jpg
i use 1st to 4th on barb, might as well do the 5th while we're at it...
and will be replacing the shifter bushings as well.. see if that sort out the problems i had with shifting.
http://www.teammfactory.com/images/catalog/solidshifterbushings.jpg
From the Progress.. the car seems to be ready before the 22nd September track night (no limits)
We're still waiting for the New ECU, the gearbox part and one more mounting point to be fix on the engine bay..
so.. finger cross!!
Cheers... ;)

We're still waiting for the New ECU
I must have missed it, but what's wrong with the Spoon ECU? :|
c.rusli
01-09-2011, 04:55 PM
Nothing is wrong with the Spoon ecu ..
its working flawlessly! ;)
The only downturn is that SPoon is not tunable.
it has a fixed tune on it...
I got AFC hooked up on it, to adjust its fueling but nothing i can do with the timing.
We did some tuning before with timing by moving the distributor...
Currently weighting up my options for it, there is a few ECU i was going to get. but the my piggy bank $$$ isnt quiet good... :(
I'll prob run in with spoon ecu, AFC for fuel, distributor and cam gears for timing. we see how it goes...
I CBF spending close to 1 - 1.5k just to gain 10 HP.. LOL!!!!

SInce the gbox is out might as well open it up again.. lol! and this time replaced the whole synchros.. rather then risking it latter on down the track..

i think its easy fix :) i hope i can copy one from some one locally =p
Then i score this one locally

Went to check out today the box has been put back in place and mounts is connected.
now i'm trying to figure how the hell i'm going to fit this narrow RMF header into a tight bay with shit cross member on the way...
http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/293557_10150319672471957_509931956_8439147_5555852 4_n.jpg
did test fit it, and i didnt took any photo unfortunately :(
but to get the idea of how tight it will be here is come pics to visualize it.

and cutting crossmember...
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc146/JDMJAYDC2/ef%20hatch%20build%20up/DSC06272.jpg
here to visualize it abit clearer

http://i27.tinypic.com/en2ac.jpg
i hope it doesnt goes too extend.. :( and sacrificing too much of the x-member integrity..
we see how it goes.. if it gets too bad i will change the x-members to traction bars...
Joy of tight space bay :D
anyway! Is getting there ;) finally... i could out and about and chase some timmngs!

Alright! itsss baaccck!
To fit the header, we had to modified the crossmember to fit.
it does require abit of cutting and strengthening afterwards.
Tight fits! yeah right!

Who needs this
http://www.bumpernuts.com/bnjay300.jpg
hanging at the back of my car, while i have a better ones at the front!?
We then modified the exhaust system to suit the header with 2.5" collector pipe, flexi pipe then a 2.5"straight pipe with one mid hotdog and end with twin 2" barrel tip ;)
in latter stage then realize that the stock thermo fans and the stock shrouds needed to be trimmed to fit to the gaps between the manifold and the radiator.

Yes it can be done and could be squized in there, but decided to go for twin thermo fans
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/314682_10150433819195953_602185952_10479240_152139 6796_n.jpg
Some says that the race car doesnt needs any fans, or only one fan is adequate.. But i took the safety measure for putting 2 fans in the space, rather being overheated on the way to track in summer days..
since we already removed the aircond pump, pipes and hoses, so then we also removed the condenser out of the way, to create more space to fit the fans in.
Wired the cable and relay to the stock wires, adjusted the air direction and wallah! it works like a charm..
Random shots of one of the mounts

Anyways! the day i was planning to pick up the car, i've spotted a leak down in the rear left brake calipers. well i noticed that my brake fluids tends to drop by it selfs, or for once i check that particular caliper, there was a bit of fluid residue on it so i taught it was the bleed nipple that wasn't tightened up and away i go.
but since it was up on the hoist, it became apparent that the leak was not from the nipple is coming out from the hand brake seal...
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQYv8XrTLS8QFJRtH6MUjgfok_qCd49_ RFnMVrNe4qxr2-Yj5KRByEZ_jCg
Luckily , my mechanic has a spare sets of rear brake calipers off from EG civic. so i throw out 2 of rear calipers and replace them with rather good conditions one.
and the car is finally home, back to its parking spot.. lol

Yeah i know the exhaust doesnt comes out on the exhaust hole, by doing this i saved 2 90 degree bend, in theory Less Bends = Power..
we shall see ;)

Technically less bends = less pressure drop, so it depends how you see the whole "OMG N/A CARZ NEED BAKK PRESSUREZ 2 WERK, YO" argument as to whether it would make power or not. :P
I lol'd at the bolts used to secure the thermo fans, did they not include the zip-ties with them?
PS. Thermo wrap!

OK its been a long way since this thread was updated.
Back earlier this year in March
I took the car for Dyno tune @ Xspeed with Zacka on deck doing his wizardy on the tuning.
Car made 150.5 Hp FWHP on Xspeed Dyno -
but, after 9 consecutive runs, engine decided to pack up.... i mean.. Really PACKED up...
2 weeks on, decided to move on and see what has gone wrong.

OK.. its been a while since i updated this thread...
The car is ready, and Yes! it will be attending events from now on.. given that The VTEC works this time *(yes no more key banging to get it working in middle of the track), it doesnt Blow another engine...
blown the clutch or other gremlins that usualy comes with the car..
After the the 2nd engine that was in there blew, we decide to start it again from zero.
Ditch all the mechanical parts from the old engine and chuck that away as paper weight.
New engine is consist of
B18C2 - Integra VTIR
Blox Intake Manifold - which deletes the stock dual butterfly valve system
98 Spec Type R Cams
Type R valve springs and Retainers
Recond Head, Seals, Bearings and new Piston and piston ring
It's looking over to the new home :D
http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/309260_10152073057930164_284455235_n.jpg
We took the engine out on one of the cold night.. and took us less then 1 hour tyring to figure out how to take the engine and the box out together.
Since the head is on the old engine, we have to improvise on the lifting mounts :P
http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/552092_10152126612000164_1844427970_n.jpg

Really, that engine bay is a mess,, wire was every where.. and really needs to be tucked and tidied up..
We then took the gearbox out from the old engine, took the clutch out and finger align them.. LOL!
2 man power and an engine crane, we then got the box in after a few miss alignment and countles effort to really align the shaft into the hole..
So box is in and engine ready to be lifted up to the new home!
http://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/581582_10152140716435164_984967000_n.jpg
1 hour later, after fiddling arround with the engine mounts.. its finaly in..
man that was a mission to align the engine mounts... wiggle wiggle yeah yeah!
First thing we did once the engine was in that we replaced that ugly looking stock rocker cover for some more bling bling stuff.. it definately adds 1000 hp!
http://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/185206_10152140723335164_1959016013_n.jpg

We than update the Suspension system while everything was on jack stand..

Whoooopppss that rod need some adjustment to do... XD its touching the forks.... ahahhaha..
Oh bout that wiring problems! we did replace a plugs, and run in new wiring systems.
some of the wires are getting really old, and its hard and started to crack...
one thing we almost forgot was.. THe injectors system was different then the previous one.
Peak and hold while the other one was saturated... well.. Google has never let us down when we found problems.. so that was
quickly rectify by removing resistor box for the injectors and running new wires in lol...
Everything is finaly in placed and tidied up.

Wiring Check!

31-10-2012, 11:54 AM
Finally i made it to Barbagallo at the ALM Time attack 30/10/12 after a year absent of motorsport with the car.
Through out the year i have been driving various different car, while the civic is off sided, sold, bought back, blew 2 engines.
Its really i felt out of touched with the car with the amount of upgrade we did to get it back on the road. From a budget build become a massive sinking hole.
With help with good mates, and few other people that make it happens.
Looking back after the event, the car was not happy to be race on the day.
On they way to work that morning, felt the steering was loose and shaky
something has gone wrong and during Lunch break i check it out.
Jacked the car up and move the left wheels and it has so much play on the hub!!
I taught i have done bearings on the hub.. and really its pissing me off...
Took out the wheel and found out that the Hub nut has come loose!!
http://imageshack.us/a/img443/9898/20121030160515.jpg
Pretty sure we tigth them up really tight, but for what i can see where the locking punch has loosen and letting the nut turns.
Finished work early and head up to repco around the corner of my office straight away,
Bought a 32mm socket and start working on it right away Right infront of Repco @ morely
Amount of on lookers that have WTF face was amazing.. LOL!... My goal is just fixt it up and lets get going!
Luckily i had some tools in the car, including hammer :p and really! that was probably intuitions and natural instinct when i drive this car that always break down LOL...
Got to barbs safely, and give another check out on both side of the wheel hub nuts.
and all pretty spot on and not even flinch a mm.
Most of the boys down there see what i did, and really taught that i might lost a wheel or 2 down at the track.. LOL!!
http://imageshack.us/a/img687/9374/20121030182441.jpg
All checked and ready to go for battle!!
This is the first time out after a year not driving the car.
Butterfly stomach and nervousness really kicks in!
http://imageshack.us/a/img502/4519/pitout.jpg
I had to familiarize my self with the track, correcting my lines and finding out what the car capable off..
on my 3rd out, the battery tray welding decided to gave up! and spill all the contents inside the car... and some how cut out all the power of the car, and i get my self beached. on top of the hill... pretty sure i heard some one saying i have lost a wheel... LOL... ALM boys shenanigans...
Kelly was the first one on spot to check out on me, and i was there stuck dead with all alkaline water sprayed through out the car. then Brett finally come around and check out the car.
I told him that battery has flown out of the seat and cut out my engine. then i proceed to open up the boot and let him checked it out, because im still strap in and in my mind im pretty sure i cant step outside unless said so by the officials OR the car is on FIRE?! ....
We got the battery sit up, and get the ground connected and start up the car.
seal the ground off with electrical tape, which i handy-ly have them on my cage padding.
the look of Kelly and Brett was priceless.. knowing that i have them in the car..
so then we get the car moving and i can sort of heard Kelly said, "Do not stall the car!!"
Get back to the Pit, and sorted out the battery, Thanks to those who help out with the battery mounting. We then got it bolted it and securely properly with and 1/2 latter, car is ready to get out there!
1st time out again after the slight bloopers the car feels quiet weird, brakes has caught some sand and locking up my front left brakes (thanks now i have flat spot!)
Mud / raid splash guard catching on the tyres..
so i decided to pull out and check them again.. so i did. pull to the pits, and is all good to go!, went to line up and after awhile i start noticing that the car is pissing down coolant at the front!
For second i taught i did the radiator good when i come off!! Spewwwing!!! but lucky enough it was just a small hole on the top rad hose, and its quiet close to the flange. after asking few people if i can use their tool, i went up straight away and cut that bastard off and reconnect it back in. Filled up the rad with water, and out to the track i go!
http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/69712_10152243529600164_2002013370_n.jpg
Thanks Kelly for the photo! looks great indeed!
Then after a few lap of getting used to the car again, and fix my braking lines I managed to pull out time 60.38 on short and consistently putting down low 61 and high 60 times.
Considering what i have been through the whole night, i could fully great full that i still put a good fight and gone through all odds to get the car working as it should.
The car really needs a tune, running rich as pig, and really down on power.
Throttle is little stick on fully close, its quiet hard to tap in after full braking... something i really need to check.
Vtec non engaging right .. parameters setting was wrong,
vtec is on above 50% throttle even the set rpm point has met. below that % no vtec.... lol..
Anyway! Thanks for the organisers! Had a blast indeed.
Its the first outing for the car, can not expect a perfect run all night long.
Will be back out indeed, and lay down some proper time in times a head!
Cheers!

so Rich that the AFR is sitting at 9:1 ratio and spitting out fuel out the back of the exhaust LOL!
After a little bit of fuel trimming and Timing adjustment we
resulted in 167hp @8400rpm and I forgot the tourqe (graph to come...)
it was up from ~150 hp before tunning with a rich ass fuel..
Require a wheel alignment and a few other minor things to be done. but overall we are almost there. so we hope that we crack the Subs 60 short track time!
Damn! 167HP is massive with those mods.

the power transition is very smooth especially after 5.5k rpm. needle just flies to rev limiter :D hahaha.

ahh then again, it was at the hubs wasnt it?
Yeah Evo-R's reads a bit higher than most DD Rollers.
That curve is really nice, some cams you get a bit of a dip in power but that thing pulls hard to redline.
Think you are right that it just needs more compression :D

Probably i would be at 200hp at Disney Dyno up in Uncle Sams region. lol
Need to do a test runs and see how quick it is compared to others.

Just a lil bit of update on this car
finaly had time to get it out and did some adjustment on the suspension settings over the Easter long weekend with the JDM WA RAC tuning day
Using Civic EG coilovers does not allow me to go low with out lowering the shocks down.
So then I try to experiment things and I raised the car up a little more to give that extra travel to the arms and keeping the springs captive and pretensions.
Really do enjoy the way the car handles and i did had balls on that day
http://youtu.be/xVwWcg2wgeI
So then with confidence back in I then signed up with No-Limits to do one of their Anzac Day - open track events.
Suprisingly the car has been reliable more then ever!
i could not ask for more for this car! so stoked that i could push the car harder without out worrying about blowing shit out or something burst out of no where.
it's been awhile since i came to Barabagallo.
Last ones as i remember was at Antilag Track day. Running the engine untuned and was overly rich
although did manage to create new PB 60.1 on short track that night, i was on the mission to bring this car to do Sub 60 with just Street Radials Tyres
Had a really long day and it took me almost all the morning session to get use to the Car again and also getting my self familiarized with the track again.
I have not done a long track since the White 7 days.. thats like 3 years back from now or so?
Finally! a break through! I brake that 60 seconds short track through to the 59.7 on one of the runs, and on the last run of the short track, i was chasing a friend of mine just for fun, taking a video of him, that second flying lap i push through to 59.2!... Pheeww!! so close to 58!
http://youtu.be/cXA-yjbsBI4
and with a little more confidence from that runs i did earlier with the short track also break through my PB on the long track i set earlier in the morning with 1:52:00 through 1:11:55.
http://youtu.be/dJOJLqzeGBE
So far, i've pushed the car to its limits in terms of tires and fatigue (long day!)
also could do a lot more room in improving my lines and using actual Semi slicks to go faster!
Well i have achived my goals, and bringing the car home in 1 piece with out breaking down is a perfect day for me with this red gremlin. :D
next goal.. break that 58 seconds short ant dip under 70 seconds long!...
it wont be long until I get there.
Cheers

Is it just me or is your seat incredibly flexible? Seems to be moving all over the place in that first video haha.

The rails are not that good.
the sliders lock only on one side, and the other side are not locked =/
probably something that i need to look at before next event out.
wicked car man but I must agree with Duste its almost as if the seatbelt is holding you and the seat in place. Maybe use fixed position instead of rails if your not ready for a new seat yet.
