hey guys

having my rb26 built that i was planning on fitting the twins to but have had a change of plans, for ease of fittament and neataning things up a bit i would like to go for a single turbo

now i was looking at the new gtx 3076 but there seems to be mixed opinions about there performance and have herd good things about the precision billet 5557 that powertune are selling

so was just after a few more opinions or even dyno results after a relativly responsive 450 at the wheels give or take

would be going either 6boost/powertune mani and external gate
and have supporting mods, injectors, ecu, nitto oil pump, clutch, cams, gears, ross balancer ect basically just left with turbo choice

also car is a s13 silvia road licenced used on the street and would see a few track days here and there but not a drift car

thanks

Look at the new BW EFR series, around a 7670 or 7064 should do what you want, get the twinscoll version with a manifold to suit.

The only result of a 5557 on a RB is shocking...

You can be a test mule with the BW EFR series or you can go with one of the following which will be the best for your application

GT3076R
Kando T67-25G

or possibly

GTX3071R
GTX3076R

One if my mates has t04z bit laggy and makes alot more power then what I'm after

Is the gtx 3076 going to be alot better then the gt version? Cant find results from a rb26 running either

GTX is just a billet comp wheel and slightly better compressor map then the original GT range. A friend of mine is changing from a 3076r .63rear to a gtx3076 .82rear on a BMW engine - hopefully it will be tuned soon and I can share the results.
The EFR turbo range is nice, billet comp wheels, dual ceramic ball bearing centres, titanium turbine wheels, built in boost control solenoid, bov and wastegate (for smaller rear housings).
Precision turbos are fairly popular in the states they come in a variety of different forms though - journal or ball bearing, ported or non comp covers .etc I would think a 5557 would be a bit small.

And what exhaust housing would you go for .64/.86
Twin scroll
Single
Tial v band
Much gains from eithe ?

.86 for the power you want
twin scroll - for sure if the manifold is built to support it
tial v-band - stainless housing and vband is handy for exhaust to undo/rust but if you ceramic coat it negates the need.

When would I expect to see full boost with the twin scroll 3076 .86

Twin or single gate doesn't make a difference ?

ive heard good reviews on the gtx30 series. spool nice and fast but are capable to produce equal if not more power than a gt35r.

speak to glen @ mtq he will give you the rundown on everything you need to know.

Really? where have you heard these reviews... I think there is about 4 dyno results that have been found on the net since their release!

if it's a 6boost manifold, id say he'd weld the gate onto turbine housing.

You can run a single or twin gate - imo it doesnt make a huge difference. advantage is if one gate fails theres still one to help protect overboosting

Whats the point in using a twin scroll turbo if your going to run a 6boob manifold and weld the gate to the housing? Let alone one gate.

It remains to be seen but I think the cost of the efrs will be hard to swallow for most.

Because the point of the split pulse is to assist with spool if it's done right? I know nothing of the 6boost manifolds or how they are constructed, but if you are going split pulse - I would want tuned length runners and dual wastegate pipes. If they merge and run 1 gate, or stay split and run 2 is not of huge consequence.

Check out Borg Warner's EFR range, hasnt been released yet but you can pre-order them

http://www.full-race.com/articles/borgwarner-efr-turbos.html

you would be crazy wanting to go anything else... plus does away with the need for buying a seperate bov and gate and finding room for them in the engine bay too

There have been a few of the gtx series fitted with results on evos and sti subis, check nasoc and also evo forums. Forced performance make a billet gt35r. Borg Warner do a billet gt30 twin scroll for a very good price. Check the website fullrace... So many options...

I saw a cheap GT35r going on ebay, one day to go and its at $600. Might be worth a look?

They have been released for a while now?!?

From the results I have seen on direct dyno comparisons they look to perform very similar to a GTX garrett... Plus they are internally gated which is not everyone's thing and the internal BOV and boost control are compromised compared to stand alone units.

Also many of the demo cars for these turbos have never released dyno results, people have been waiting months now and the speculation is they are not living up to any of the hype hense the lack of published results.

So saying "you would be crazy" is a little bit misleading!

Their marketing looks very enticing, however yes like u said everyone i have seen on the USA supra forums keeps asking for dyno comparison proof and months later it still doesn't exist. It sounds good but this isn't enough. Not to mention expensive...

Sorry... 'it is my personal opinion that you would be crazy wanting to go anything else' :)

From what I've seen it's my turbo of choice, I like the fact the gate and bov are integrated, and haven't read anything to make me worry about the boost control issues of internal gating. If people want external gate then they can order the turbo without the internal gate and use their own.

They have been technically released and you can click the 'add to cart' button on all the pages, but there is still a wait before they will ship them out to anyone, well at least for myself and two others that i know have ordered them.

agreed i probably shouldnt have said you'd be crazy with anything else, but its just an opinion, theres plenty of disparity when it comes to what parts are the best, each to their own

IMO you'd be crazy to pay the 1k+ premium for the EFR over a garrett until there are some results showing they're worth the expense. If they live up to the hype it might be worthwhile, otherwise to my mind the old journal bearing bw for 1/3 the cost still look pretty good. Or the garrett ts alternative if you have midget hands and don't mind paying top dollar for a casting full of holes (atp ts housings).

The Borg Warner airwerks range are very good value. Twin scroll and billet core. Cost is around $1k new. Can't beat that. Better than old school Garrett range for sure.

I'd be very interested to see the results of the new borg warner efr turbos on the 2jz though. Please post up the results.

have you used any of the turbo's your talking about?

taking advice from someones whos "500hp supra" makes 370hp sounds a bit dubious to me.

I'm on a long train ride so I can actually be bothered arguing with you.

You as well as me know that a dyno is a machine for tuning, not for showing off big numbers. Further to that they All show different readings.

I personally couldnt give a crap about the final number, but saying that I have happened to run my car on 3 different dynos, will be 4 by tomorrow as it is currently at wtf autos getting a new intake, dump pipe ditching the cat and having another tune. 500 at the hubs is what it read on the previous tune. If you really want proof of the 500hp number i can post it. But my experience in reading your posts is that you probably dont care and just enjoy a good argument. However I can post the last one and the new one coming up in a few days.

In regards to me running all the turbos I am talking about. Of course I haven't. But so what. A turbo specialist wouldn't have either. They just go off anecdotal experience. Either their own, their customers or through online forums seeing dyno print outs. I have spent a lot (and I mean a Lot) of time researching turbos and looking at dyno charts. A lot of people are afraid to go with anything other than Garrett turbos. I think it is nice to be informed of what is out there. Especially if there is something that gives more power, better spool at a much better price.

Just use a GT3582.

Best trade-off between response and power, and they are tried and tested.

I'll be looking at a GTX version of the 35, but I'm not expecting it to be very different than my old GT3582.

I have a TO4Z now, and the 3582 was much better.

1.8bar:
GT35 - 4200rpm
TO4Z - 5100rpm

Power:
GT35 - 510rwhp
TO4Z - 586rwhp

as a comparisson between dynos as well, my GT35R did 560rwhp on the all-star hubber.

Just use what Brockas uses, so you can get hosed by an RB25 GTS-t

Why wouldn't you look into the issue making both turbos a lot laggier than most other results rather than trying to bandaid the lag with a smaller turbo?

I know both my old GTR, chookos GTR and tippets Gts-4 were all getting 1.6bar by 4000-4300rpm with a T04Z

mannn where does everyone get the idea that EFR cost alot? $1900 US for a turbo that includes internal gate and bov? ie does away need for buying seperate units, how the hell is that expensive :S last time i bought a garrett it was $1800 new from hpiab

You must be flying over to the US to pick up your turbo then?

EFR 8374, the cheaper external wg version is:
GCG 2900 + 70 shipping
Full Race 2100 + 200 shipping + 340 taxes (100 customs, 235 GST)

s300sx (gt35 equiv but twin scroll) is ~1500 delivered inc taxes
