Nah, Subaru said 20k for a new one, told them i'd rather drive the car into a river then give them that, so either looking at importing from japan or if anyone knows anyone that can get there hands on something nice.

cars only done 18000 km

How does a new car pop a motor so quickly and not be warranty? Just curious.

Brand new short motors can be installed for less than 10k. Give Allstar a call.

Dam right, last time i check the rrp on a 2.5 short block it was around 5k brand new from subaru.
10k is pretty close, just depends on how far you go on the rebuild... eg: new oil pump, heads done up what ever.
20k it is not!

Don't you have a mechanic mate that can install it? Thats what you said on Perth-WRX anyway.

If thats the case, and you look in the right places, you can get them for $3.5k.. in fact, there are a pile of threads on Perth-WRX which specify where you can buy them from locally.

Not making any assumptions here, but I've seen at least 6-10 situations over the years on Perth-WRX which follow this pattern.

New Thread: HAIII GUYYZZZ I JUST GOT A FULLY AWESOME ECUTEK REFLASH TUNE.

Another New Thread 2 weeks later: HAII GUUUUYZZZZZ I NEED A NEW BOTTOM END.

btw ricky the quote for 20k was a brand new long motor, turbo, intercooler and all new gaskets + labour.

I'm quite keen to know how the ecutek causes the engine to break, wouldn't it be due to the tune ?

i remember reading a thread on here of a guy who went through a few motors himself - cant remember wat year his wrx was though - hole in the piston or sumthing?

Is it even possible to get to a level of hate that is even close to on par with him ? My suggestion is JWS, they saved my arse with a radiator for my Evo, granted not as serious as a engine, but I think they would be able to help you.

+1

Wouldn't these instances be related to off the shelf maps sold by Ecutek as opposed to the stage 3 dyno tunes?
Is there a legitimate reason for all the hate if the car is tuned properly?

where is the O.P?

Joe
30-01-2011, 08:49 PM
I'm not going to provide any opinion as to why I think a particular ECU can cause engine failures, but usually its one of two things as to why any sort of ECU can cause an engine to fail

1. The tuner not tuning the ECU correctly.

2. The product being inferior or not suitable for a particular application.

SK
30-01-2011, 08:53 PM
is it really necessary to have a thread on here and p-wrx on the same subject?

Joe
30-01-2011, 08:55 PM
P.S. for everyones information, ECUTek is a flash tune, its not a standalone ECU.

Same sort of deal as Verso tune.

.. and from this point, I'll be closing this. O.P. can start a new thread if he needs anything.
