hey guys,

can anyone enlighten me as to how an indicator system works in a car at the steering wheel?

I have connected power to the indicator switch, so I get headlights and high beams working but when i switch the indicators on - the wires which I suspect should have some voltage coming out don't do anything.

I guess from there it goes to the indicator switch at the fuse box - does the indicator switch provide power or does it cut earth maybe and thats how the signal gets transferred?

I have wires cut atm - hence im asking so I can correctly wire this in.

many thanks in advance.

Mike

What car are we talking?

The indicator delivers a signal, usually going through the hazard light switch to the flasher unit usually with the fuses. The flasher unit then delivers power to the indicators and its the part that does the 'tick tock'.

its on my CRX Racecar.

Both of you have said about the Hazard Light switch - CRX has the switch in the indicator stalk while the civic harness im using has a seperate hazard switch! you both could be onto something here :) thanks - i'll check it out :)

Put it this way, ive not seen a vehicle that the indicators have not gone through a hazard light switch. BUT, i interepreted your question as that you couldnt get power to come OUT of the combination switch. You should still be able to extract a switching power as it is a switch after all.
