Hi,

Just wondering were everyone buys there gear from?

Had to go hire some gear today, and while i was at the 2 places i got some price quotes, so i could do some checking online to see if its worth buying local or not

Cheapest online for Australia would have to be DWI (http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/index.asp), which is basically like buying direct from HK. If you're thinking about buying from fleabay, check DWI first.

Teds is Australia-based but heading more into the local shop retail pricing > http://www.teds.com.au/

I bought from leederville camera house. Certainly not the cheapest, but I use my camera for work and wanted local support if and when stuff fails.

Have gotten lenses and flashes off ebay though.
Saving the links posted above for future reference.

+1

You can also buy from their Singapore site which is slightly cheaper than the Australian site.

+1 for DWI. Spent an easy 15k on there and no problems what so ever.
Bought my last batch of 580 flashes from DD Photographics so +1 for them too.

I tend to go to www.shopbot.com.au first to see the latest prices from various online stores, as sometimes the prices can be cheaper or more expensive than the other from week to week.

My radio triggers and small accessories I get from various shops on eBay.

Thankfully some stuff on B&H are cheaper than HK, even including taxes + postage. Usually the really big ticket items or items that are extremely popular.

DWI do dodgy receipts, but you just email them later to get a copy of the real one.

yeah true guess it depends on the Item, I could have saved a bit on my recent Camera but having the Warranty here was worth the bit extra.

Dad has bought epic stuff from B&H and never been charged any duty. I thought stuff from the US was all good due to free trade. B & H service is awesome.

Europe is a world of hurt as I found out.

IIRC Canon warranty is a worldwide warranty. Makes no difference where you buy from.

I spoke to the old man today and he has been stung for duty from B&H before. He got a 1D mark IV the other day and they got him on that.

Yea prices on DWI are too good. Me and a few mates have gotten Camera Electronic and CR Kennedy (http://www.crkennedy.com.au/v1/) to price match DWI Sigma lenses. CR Kennedy is the distributor of Sigma in Aus and camera electronic get their stock off them :)
