I need some advice. I need to get my son a steering wheel for xmas for his PS3 and GT5 and have been looking at the G 27 wheel but some of the reading i've done says it dosn't work properly with GT5, any truth to that. There seems to be a new wheel coming out, the Thrustmaster T500-RS but i cant find out when its going to be released. Any advice on what the best wheel
is or what i should be looking at would be greatly appreciated.

Sony were going to patch the game for the G27 apparently, and it's still the best around for the money at $400 now. Plenty of guys using the G27 and GT5 here though it doesn't enable every feature the wheel has available to it.

You might be able to look into a Fanatec wheel or the Thrustmaster but I don't like your chances of picking one up before Xmas. From what I could tell (quickly looking around) you'd need to source one online

I have a G27 it works perfectly, as in force feedback, clutch, brake and accelerator. the only thing that makes it not work properly is you cant change button assignements as the wheel doesnt show up in the controller list of GT5.

i am confident if you brought your son a G27 for xmas he would be very stoked!

obviously the T500-RS will be the better choice, but as you noted there is not release date yet.

for reference, here is my sim setup.

Nice work!

Does it flex much while youre being D1GP champion, swinging lock to lock?

might have to copy it.

na no real flex at all, all glued together apart from the steering wheel platform, which is just pressed together so you can adjust the steering wheel angle, its tight enough that you still cant move it accidentally.

i found the plans doing a good search, cost about $150 all up.

Where'd you end up getting it from? Harvey's should have them for $400 floor price if they ordered any in as part of the special...

Found out yesterday at work that I can bend 50mm alloy tube in my roll cage bender so I'll have some killer frames as soon as get a chance (probably 2012)

I just packaged a GTPro seat with a Fanatec GT3RS wheel from Pagnian Imports.

$1200 for the lot.

Am in LOVE with the GT3RS. However, the GT2 is out soon which is multi platform compatible, so probs worth waiting for that.

Nah, but I reckon a Sparco Pro2000 would be perfect! Combined with a Fantec GT3RS wheel.

Same here mate. We just bought 4x the same combo for the same price. Ours left last Friday. Let me know how long yours takes to get here! Can't wait to have a play.

Mine has arrived. Took about 10 business days.

I can advise that youre going to need to make up some extra bracing for the GTPro. Theres quite a bit of flex in the steering wheel mount struts (hope that make sense, cant think of a better way to describe it) I'll post up a pic later on of my handy work. Solid as a rock now.

Noob question probably but what is the difference between the G25 and G27 (apart from one is newer!)?

Just had another look at our invoice. We got the GTXreme racing sims. Post your pics up still mate. I am pretty sure the only diff between the pro and the xtreme are the seats. Will still need the extra bracing I would say.

anyone using the cheaper Logitech Gran Turismo wheel?
Dont really want to fork out $400 for one of the exxy ones unless its really a shitload better

Yep. The Extreme seats are a touch tighter in the side bolsters i think. Frame should be the same.

dont know about the GT wheel but compared to the DFP the G27 is a shitload nicer
Bigger, more realistic-sized wheel for starters, much smoother operation and the FF is pretty spot on

if you don't want to spend bulk $$ on a dedicated seat....get one of these

http://www.wheelstandpro.com/order.html

i have one and its very good...very stable and you can put it in front of any chair you have.

I have the GTPro and find that there is a little too much flex on the steering mount. Be keen to see what you have done to tighten it up.

Have the GTPro and have been in the GTExtreme in Harvey Norman at City West. GTPro seems a better seat if your a bigger framed bloke. The shoulder bolsters on the GTExtreme protrude too far forward and dont hug you... They kinda push you away from the back of the seat. The GTPro doesnt exactly hug your shoulders either tho, but are wider and less protruding allowing you to get your back into the chair. The frame is indeed the same. Was looking for differences (thicker frame, more support / bracing etc) as I wondered what made the seat cost the extra $50, but nothing seemed different bar the seat.

As requested.

You can see ive had a bit of ali tube fab'd up. Basically it sits at the bottom on the little lip at the lower edge of the pedal plate, only as wide as the rest of the frame. Then at the top it just sits underneath the bend in the steering strut (basically right under the double sided tape for the sign that goes on the front of the rig). The piece ive added is an inch or 2 higher than the strut would otherwise hang down, so it pushes it all up and holds it there pretty firm.
Ive just got it all cable tied for the moment, but could easily just drill some holes and smash some bolts through for a more permenant fixture.

No doubt this will make no sense to the guys that havent got their setups yet, but it will once you set it all up.

With the GT3 rs wheel does the shifter work on GT5? if so how did you get it to work?

I have the 911 turbo wheel and have just got it working with GT5 but i can only use the shifter buttons behind the steering wheel and not the shifter.

More help needed. I plugged the g 27 into the playstation and the pedals, and shifter work but the steering wheel doesn't work. The paddals for the gearchange and shift lights on the wheel work but the steering wheel does nothing.
Any ideas what might be wrong.
Thanks

this is what i do.

plug everything in on the G27, including the power pack, but dont plug it into the playstation.

turn the playstation on, make sure the hand controller comes up as controller one. then before loading the game plug the G27's USB in, the wheel should go left-to-right full lock as a startup test.

start GT5 and away you go.

I have the Logitch Driving Force GT wheel. I think it's still $138 at dick smith.
It's not a bad wheel, and is suited for GT5 ( has an adjustable dial for TCS etc) but it's nothing special either.
Definitely makes the game more enjoyable but I find it makes it hard to predict how far to turn the wheel through some hairpins etc. The FFB is very clunky and noisy too.

But for the price, you end up not minding the faults too much

Driving Force is pretty nice but im keen to see what the higher end steering wheels are like. Anybody no when the Thrustmaster t500rs is out in aus?
