View Full Version : Turbo Shaft Balance
Hi All,
Planning to rebuild my CT26 soon. Just wondering if any of you's balance shafts? If so what price am i looking at. Also where is recommended. I'm hoping that its quite cheap to balance a shaft, unless anyone knows a place that sells rebuilt CT26's for cheap? I seen ebay ones for 400 bucks but screw that.
Also anyone done any upgrade work to a CT26 while rebuilding?
Cheers
you dont just balance the shaft/turbine its done with the comp wheel attached as well & its not something you can do yourself.
google 'per4manz' in welshpool
Yea im already contacting them. I know its the complete shaft with both impellers, yes i know you need specialist equipment, just wondering if anyone has access to it.

CT26's are a shit turbo, you would make more power with the factory CT12a's with less lag. Take this opportunity to put on something more modern.

+1 for MTQ, they do majority of our turbos for work
Do a great quick job
I am not putting a different turbo on. I am not spending extra mod money on car as i have another car for mods. This is how the car came and id like to just service the "shit" turbo which has excessive shaft play at moment..
Mitchy, the ones on ebay for 400 are claimed to be brand new products, I think they are the chinese copys.

well since you dont want to spend any 'extra' $ on the car the way i see it you have 2 options-
1. buy a rebuild kit & try it yourself - mark the comp wheel position & you might get away with not needing a balance.
2. remove shaft/wheels & run n/a
ok sorry english is not my first language, maybe i didnt explain it properly.
I'm happy to spend money fixing my current setup but looking for low cost option. which makes option 2 sound alright.
I definately need to get the shaft balanced. Once i have it appart ill know which parts ill be using as i have a spare twin entry CT26 as well. I know i need to balanced it because it has heaps of shaft play and no doubt it warrants a balance due to vibration coming from turbo.
Just was hoping someone could get me an idea of what i should be paying for a shaft balance and not getting ripped off. Or whether its cheaper to just buy a refurbished turbo. I already have the rebuilt kit and have practiced rebuilding the twin entry version.. however obviously dump is different and not designed for the larger engines. I am willing to sell the twin entry one i rebuilt with a warranty. I didnt balance that one i just marked the position of the bolt on impeller/shaft as you mentioned. It had no shaft play originally and was told by previous owner that it was just blowing from the seal. which should all be good now..

this doesnt make sense to me, but good luck anyway
