Hey all
I bought an eb fairmont yesterday for cheap for the whole purpose of taking it on a pine rally.
Now problem is today it broke down on me. I'm an apprentice mechanic so went thru the basic's it's getting fuel and it's got spark.
Car started running really rough and wouldn't idle would stall and now it won't start all.
Thinking spark might be a little weak as spark was kinda orangey coloured. Went to replace coil but spare one mate had was dud and didn't work.
Any of you fellas got any proven ideas?

earlier EFI ford 6's can have probs with map sensor, will idle rough like a pig, etc.

can be a cheap fix.

Spark is spark, if youve got one you will at least get it started. Dont forget youve only got 10v on a good day, and most probably 9 volts in a shitter to make a spark with, its gonna be orange.

Id be looking towards fuel pressure if not already checked, see if you can fire it on some crc or brake cleaner. Make sure nothings changed timing wise, id say your issues will lie within the fuel system but get it running on brake cleaner and see how you go.

I got the same problem but with a EA falcon, been sitting there for over 2 years, doesn't wanna start. Changed fuel pump, fuel pump relay, spark plugs, new battery, drained old fuel and put fresh fuel in. It has spark, tried some start ya bastard and didn't work, not sure what else I can check.

Tried some areo start yesterday made no difference.
Its definitely getting fuel and pressure. Take a line off the fuel rail and fuel will spray outta under pressure. It's really got me stumped as it def has spark and it's getting fuel. Will check timing bout doubt it make it half run then 5 minutes later not run at all

They don't need to start

Sims can drag them onto the truck regardless

Do you have injectors firing...I know you have fuel to them... but are they working ?

Well when I was testing for spark I pulled each plug out 1 at a time I had mist come out of spark plug hole. And when it does run it pisses black smoke

Id be looking at map sensor or map sensor hose if thats the case

Thanks.
Been told from guys at work to check the timing, map sensor and a strange one as cars been sitting round with no fuel it might of picked up some shit from the tank it's blocked an injector open or damaged fuel reg.
I personally am leaning towards map, timing or worse case scenario it's got low compression

might sound funny but had 2 ea's that had splits in vacume line that went to fuel reg at the back of the intake manifold. running but like a dog, cutting out etc... would run ok on gas... was fkn weird... found the vavume line had massive split and once fixed was mint... worth a look??

Coil or tfi module on side of dizzy

Car should still run with a fuck map

Did a few more checks. Lines to reg were good. Map vacuum line wasn't connected, connected it made no difference still didn't start. Has great fuel pressure. Great spark from coil fuckin zapped my hand.
Will be replacing tfi module tomorrow.
Car now has my blood sweat and boot sized dents In the door after my dummy spit
