Coming from the F1 2011 chat thread, thought i would post this up rather than bulk that thread up.

So basically a thread on who is going to what tracks next year, best places to sit at the tracks, places to stay, places to book through, other things to do, etc etc etc.

Matt (Cactus) and myself are looking at going to Singapore GP next year, I know a few people from here went this year or have been previous years.

Did you get a package deal? If so where from? or did you do it yourself?
Where abouts did you sit?
Any info or recommendations?

Ill be poping my F1 cherry so i want it to be magical.

Was thinking about the multi seat packages where you get to sit in different grandstands on all days.

all i can say is get in early, the early the better they jack up hotel prices a shitload the closer it gets to race weekend

can reccomend esplanade waterfront for singapore, ill post a link up to a short vid from where i was sitting later, good spot to sit, if your cashed up get pit tickets for 1 grand of course!

im keen for singapore again next year, but also keen to maybe do malaysia, just dunno how funds will go as im off to america for 5 weeks in june/july

For Melbourne, Brabham and Jones grandstands are the best for action as turn 1 can be quite hectic. Fangio is across from the pitlane though. I've done Brabham 4 day packages before. This time around the group I'm with are doing a 4 day grandstand package, sitting in Jones on race day.

I'll get to Monaco in 2011 if it kills me.

Monaco F1 is king. Had the time of my life last year.

Stayed in a hostel in Nice, awesome, cheap and good people at 30 euro a night.

train to monaco costs 3 euro and takes 40 mins. bus is 1 euro but takes 1 hour. The journey is good on train, very scenic. or you can take a heli ride at a few hundred euro.

did K7 grandstand at a cheap $390 (about $700) for raceday. snuck in to the cliffs above Secteur Rocher for quali. great view of most of track.

Much cheaper for food/drinks/accomodation.

take food into monaco. i think we paid $8 just for a can of coke.

After the race was cool, walked the track, by the time we got back around teams were loading cars into trucks and we could walk by the motor homes etc. Tried to go to Casino as well but had no I.D on me :( FAIL

Going to Singapore GP next year, flights are booked for myself and 4 mates im taking as well as accommodation. No idea where will sit. I was on main straight just opposite the pits this year but have plans afoot for something better.

Can recommend padang area (where brockas/jazza were from memory) as a lot happens there with concerts etc.

Also the F1 after party tends to be held at the Marina Bay Sands hotel with a $500 cover charge.

^^^ yeah thats the mob i mentioned in my post. havnt used them so i cant give a review, but they are cheap. im still deciding on Sepang or Melb. Sepang always rains, which may not be a bad thing... but melbs slightly cheaper on airfares i think. Prefer the Sepang track though.

So you guys heading to Singapore. Ill be doing Sing as well but looking forward to Malaysia in April. We got 2 x different grandstand tix and 3 different area walkabout for just over $200aud for all 4 days. so cheap considering Aus was $184 for a 2 day general admission. Accom at the Sheraton under $50 a night.

But im organising Monaco for 2012! Bit hard cause there are no dates set in yet. and need to figure out what other events are round that time in europe to make the long flight worth while. cant wait!

my mates stayed there last year, was fucking expensive but nice, i went up to their room a few times.

you after budget? soemthing in the midish price range?

i just stayed in a little two star place on victoria st (called the victoria hotel lol) it did the job and wasnt bad, free internet in the rooms too. The major plus was it was a very easy walk to the track, about 10 mins maybe even less. My mates at the royal plaza had to get a cab everytime, where as we could just walk there n back. It was only 59 bucks a night each at this place, so if your after something on the cheap side thats close to the track i highly recomend that place.

well something midish price and close as possible to track without paying through the nose. $200-$300 a night max

dont mind a bit cheaper if its decent. we are going with friends that have a newborn that will be 10months by then so need somethin decent.

since we are going with our partners, F1 will only really be a few hours saturday and the race on sunday so rest of the time i assume will be relaxing and shopping so something thats not gonna mean we are real far from the centre.

not sure how far the track is from the main centre area??

first time in singapore and a F1 race so excuse the noob

well if your gonna do alot of shopping, i assume all your wives will haha, orchard st is the place, its just a massive st full of huge shopping complexes with all the designer labels etc you can think of, orchard was about a 20 minute walk from where i was.
well the victoria hotel has different level of rooms, i just had the very basic room which is small, theres larger deluxe/premium rooms for a little bit more which might be better suited to you and a newborn, they looked to be a good size. just have a browse on the net at the hotel/pics of the deluxe rooms see if it suits what your after.

i think probably you will be after a slightly better hotel actually though.

Singapore is pretty easy place to get around mate. Everything is in english. Public transports really good and taxis are reasonable. But yeah main shopping strip is Orchard Road and its only few mins taxi ride to places like suntec city. A must for first timers is chilli crab at East Coast. Best ever! please let me know how you go looking for accomodation, i am still in the bartering stage. i am owed a trip to thailand as 21st present from a year ago, might trade it in for sg (csb)

so i wouldnt have to worry about flightls, got some great ideas for places to stay as i'll be slumming it on a student buget (eg dont care where i sleep because i plan to be so pissed it might as well be the gutter).

my question to those who have gone before, how late is too late? i plan on organising it before the end of feb, by then will i be looking at more expensive deals? or does it only start to get expensive around may/june?

Im finding myself super keen to do singas

trying to find crew atm though is looking tough! may need to do same thing as manna above!

after doing melb last week and how epic singas was last year just dont wanna miss it!

ill have enough frequent flyer points for free flights so that'll help a fair bit

antilag crew perhaps? 3 in a room means a decent saving. may start a new thread to gauge interest.

Thought this might be of interest to those heading to Singapore, Singapore Airlines has some cheap fares around the F1 ($576) return.

Came across heaps of videos on Youtube showing Grandstand views, it will be very helpful when choosing which tickets to buy. I'm going to buy T4 tickets for the German GP.

Not sure how dedicated people are but if anyones keen on Monaco 2012 let know cause its a lot cheaper to rent out someones holiday apartment within monaco itself. instead of travelling from Nice. Only had a small look but for a 6 person flat will cost bout 1000 euro which equates to approx $250 a head. and thats for a week!

There is another similar one which is only approx 12k and you essentially drive a group of supercars down from london think. swapping cars on the way and finishing up in monaco for the grand prix. id be crazy enough to save up for something like that haha.....

well my mates im going with have booked at the grand hyatt, like a studio sweet, that costs more!

i really wanted to stay at bay sands, as its an experience in itself, sky park etc. it wasnt too badly priced, i found a really cheap price through a travel company that seems too good to be true! its like 700 bucks cheaper then its nearest competitor, havent booked yet as im waiitng to hear back from someone if they coming, not looking good.

so if anyones solo may possibly have a spare bed at marina bay sands they can split with me!

fark soo jealous, so keen on doing monaco next year

Going to singapore this year and got esplanade seating tickets. Looking foward to it.
Someone told me there is a place in singapore where you can hire an exotic and thrash it around the streets for 15mins. Costs about $200 aus or something. Anyone else know anything about it? I want to believe.

Aussie bar on the third level of Orchard Towers (AKA Four Floors of Whores) would be showing AFL matches. Otherwise just watch it in your room on the Australian channel.

Yep - Can be done.
Only have the choice of one Fezza and one Lambo.
Pretty sure the Fez is a 360 modena and the Lam is a galliardo. Could be wrong tho.

If you go to the bottom of the big ferris wheel (singapore eye lol), you will see a small office that has all the information on a big sign in the door.
Cars can be seen parked up out front. $200 for 15 mins sounds about right. You can drive, or be driven but the cost is the same.

Was pretty keen to do it myself, but there is always a heap of traffic and you wouldnt get the room to open it up anywhere.
$200 to sit in a jam / at lights was not worth it at the time.

padang is pretty far away from the main areas and not worth the money in my opinion

i was in esplanade waterfront gstand last year, wasnt that great for the coin, they bay at half the price looked better as it what we got this year
