View Full Version : E.O.I - GT5 Time Attack
Quick thought which has come from discussions on another forum.
Monday -
Pick a standard car in arcade mode
Pick standard tyre compound
Pick a track
We all have the week to go do free runs - take a pic of your best time or log it whatever.
Winner at the end of the week picks the next weeks car and track.
A chance to compete without being online or punted by upgarage or jetpilot07
Thoughts?

The reason i suggested replay, from memory the old GT replay videos showed the model of the car, and tyre compound they were running before it begun. Makes it fair :D

Tsukuba!?
By standard tyre compound do you mean everybody use the same type? (hopes it race-soft :D)

this way you can participate in the competition if you cant go online

Got a proposal..
Each week pick a course and a car which you can get from standard dealers and enforce a no mod/hp restriction.Everyone on the forum has a week to get the best lap time which they prove by uploading the replay.
Winner each week scores a car? I am not sure if you can gift credits..but have the winner/spooner of the prior week gift tickets...
I have yet to investigate too much online as I'm out in Harm-adale with the missus this week.. Hopefully you can just set up an open event with a leader board...
Should keep up some continuous competition without lining up online times..
chucked that up in the GT5 Thread the other day :P
Mega keen.

Mitchy - you cant really.. but its up to us all to play fair.. and if someone is 3 seconds a lap up on everyone its going to raise eyebrows.
I reckon week 1 will definitely be the home of time attack Tsukuba, then the winner of each week can pick a new track and car and tyre combo - so if someone wants to pick Nascar on road tyres at Laguna Seca then so be it.

how can you prove what tyre you used.
just make it any tyre, select track and select car.
p.s. keen.
I dont know to be honest, I havnt even run a single lap offline, or even looked at the options etc.
If you ran any tyre you want, everyone is going to race soft race tyres anyhow so I guess that solves that issue.

Will have some teething to Iron Out car selection and what not. Also might have to impose a 1 post per person per person when posting up thread...no edits.
Maybe set 1 car and have it track selection cycle (Top Gear SIARPC spec) that way you only need to buy one car to stay in the comp...Dont want to not be able to take part cause your up to a cash heavy point in the single player..
I intend on running it in arcade mode with dead standard cars - a new track and car each week keeps it fresh

Just reading up on saving GT5 replays.. Unless your recording it on another device (phone/handycam) its a bit of a mish:
If you head into the Saved Data Utility on the XMB (under Game), you can copy the files onto a USB stick, SD card or other similar removable storage media.
Slot that storage media into your PC and head to the folder SAVEDATA, located under he folder called PS3. In there you can find whichever replays you've saved (you can usually identify which is which using the image files inside each folder; each save gets a folder each).
From there, it's a case of putting the folders into a ZIP file and putting them up on the net! Of course, for people to watch them, they'll need to download the saves, copy them onto their PS3 and watch them in GT5.
You could always video them with a camera (or record them with a DVD recorder or a HDD recorder, or even with direct-capture software) and put them on YouTube instead.
tldr; you cannot copy the replay off the PS3 and upload to Youtube. Which at TGS the boys at PD said you could.. so maybe its coming up in a patch.
So either roll with the honesty system or designate someone to recieve the replay data, download it, watch the replays and confirm the times.. Or go Olympic piss-test style and request the weekly winners replay to confirm..
GT5 is serious business.
sweet idea TJ. I'm keen.. my net is too slow for online play so this would be great!

I'd love to take part in this.
I suggest Tsukuba, and sports soft as the first combo, i dont mind which car
Sports soft are a nice tyre to drive on, and i find the racing slicks to be a bit too hardcore.

bahaha yeah I was noticing your insane entry's last night.
It's just too hard to use the handbrake on the G25 :(

Use MOAR circle button!
There's no option to set a clutch button is there? Had a look last night but couldn't see one :(
I know on my G25 I have to hold the clutch in at the start if each race to get it to work, not sure what button it is on a controller though.
[Jacek]
03-12-2010, 10:32 AM
You can press the clutch at any point of the race to activate "clutch mode", then use the paddle shift to get it back into "clutchless mode" if required

will be good to see what times peoples are running steering wheel vs controller
pity there will be no one to punt off

might be best to have 2 separate best times for those with controllers and those with wheels?
Nah - a times a time - if your so serious about winning this that you buy a wheel then so be it.

Just make part of the criteria to specify if you have a wheel or controller. Personally, I'd like to see how much I suck compared to others with a controller.

If you want to pick for the week after, win the competition :)

it's not so much that, sometimes i reckon the controller is easier in some ways.
anyway, when will this get under way?
Monday 06.12.10 Start
Sunday Say 3pm close
Winner gets to choose the car and track for the week after.

yeah, as tj mentioned unrestricted tyres solves the issue of cheating in that area, but if you run the game in arcade mode i dont think you can mod the car anyway? if someone spends the time to actually find a way to cheat anyway thats pretty sad...
setting the car up would be unrestricted too im assuming as its too hard to govern set springs rates etc?
Mad_Aussie
03-12-2010, 03:28 PM
You can set the tyres in Arcade mode, nothing else except for driver aids though.
Bingo - if you want to run comfort tyres feel free... I wont be.
Will announce track and car combo sunday night.
Why not announce a 'practice' track and car for the weekend, then start the comp properly on Monday.
Just to see how it goes, and for abit of a challenge over the w/e :)
