Hey guys.

Thought I might chuck up a thread about my VL.

Brought it in May this year.
Was pretty much bog stock, only had a couple of mods.

* Whiteline Panhard rod.
* Slightly lowered, enough to make it illegal.
* Hectik BOV on the stock crossover pipe, and a boost gauge.

I originally brought it with plans to keep it fairly stockish, drive it while at uni, and then have something to work with once I had finished in 4 years. Oh how things changed...

I deferred uni for 6 months, and decided to start working the VL that could double as a smoke machine thanks to some top quality 270,00km old turbo seals, and the original goal became to have a 10/11 second car before I head back to uni.

Starting collecting parts in June, and started piecing everything together as I got them.

Current mods are:

Rajab Plenum on N/A runners.
ITS 60-1 Turbo rated at 600hp on a hi-mount manifold.
Turbo Smart 48mm external waste gate.
Turbo Smart Pro Fuel Regulator.
3" Turboback exhaust with a high-flow cat.
630cc Injectors on an a alloy rail.
Crane Hi6 Ignition system with lx92 coil.
Microtech LT-10s.
Bosch 044 External Pump mounted in boot with an alloy surge tank.
R33 5 Speed and reconditioned tailshaft.
Jim Berry Full Monty clutch
B-Boss 20" Eleanors with 225/30's all round.
600*300*76 FMIC.
Battery relocated to boot.
Screamer pipe with a flange to allow plumb-back.

Few things left to do, gauges to install, turbo timer to wire up, tacho to fix.
Also went and ordered my plates, whether they get approved is a different story, trying to get 'VAFANCULO' :P

I originally wanted to run a Jatco 3 speed, figured I would enjoy a 5 speed more.

Its currently only has a light loads tune, waiting for Rotomotions dyno to get fixed before I take it down and push an 18 pound tune aiming for 350hp with the stock bottom end.

Hope to have saved enough cash for a complete rebuild in January/February and then push for 400+, and then maybe a paint later in the year, and maybe chuck a calais front end, door moulds and taillights on aswell.

Worked fucking hard to pay for this since July, glad to finally have it running :) Here are some pics.

Nice work man, you have spent money on all the right gear! How will a vl t5 hold up with 350hp?

Why is it that no one seems to fit a cooler behind the front bar of a VL properly?

If budget allowed I would, just a bit of stretch for me at the moment.

Yeh, started on Monday, mate got me into it, except its embarrassing, his lifting like twice as much as me haha.
Wanted VAFFANCULO, because according to nonna thats the correct spelling, but wonder whether licensing will let me have it.

Thats what I've been told, but block has seen about 280 thousand now, and its pretty much a daily drive at the moment, rebuild might be worth it in the long run. But 26 pound does sound nice :)

BOV is wound up heaps tight, so you never know what you will get, sometimes dose, sometimes vents, sometimes both :P

Cooler hanging out the front is the best look you can get, thats why haha

There is a shorter cooler around but people usually just grab the generic sized ones.

Looks good DBLOSE... good to see another CT member here.

Should go alright! ;)

Looks good with those rims. Suit it, unlike many other Holdens :(

350rwhp should be okay, but dunno how long the bottom end would last with more boost....but meh...if this bottom end dies just get an N/A bottom end ;p

ALSO, what's been done to the head any big cam of some kind? Lumpy RB30et idle is the best :)

Because they want it to look like that? Same could be said about RX3s, RX2s etc...The VL front bumper looks "bare" without the intercooler hanging down ;)

I love the look of the cooler hanging down. Makes it look tough.
Makes me miss my old one. :(

Yeah always thought RX2's and RX3's etc looked stupid with 90% cooler hanging out

you cannot fit a 600x300x76 cooler behind the front bar of a VL, properly, without it hanging below the bar.

Nice build, reminds me of my Calais. Should go hard!

keep it SOHC 3.0 too :)

Yeh, dont trust the 280k old block, got a N/A sitting in the shed that I will build I think. Hasn't got a cam, that and diff gears are next on the list.

Nah, just got it back from Rotomotion on monday.

Bit of bad news. Managed to drive it less then 4 days and get it stickered. Got done for no plumb-back on BOV, screamer and rims... Just wait till the see my battery relocation :/

shame about the yellow, kinda expected tho driving around with intercooler that fills the whole front end of the car and massive rims.. these days you got to keep the attention away where you can..

the work in the bay is really good!

Provided the actual shell of the car is clean...

If you can be bothered just see how you go taking it over the pits as is, with "legal" wheels, put the screamer back into the exhaust (+flange, so u can easily make it vent out again when necessary) etc.

If that fails, which it probably will (lol) - I guess you can buy a spare RB30e for a couple hundred and keep it for pit-duties :p

Took the car to Welshpool pits today.

Wasn't as bad as I thought. Got done for parking lights, demisters not working, too low and handbrake needing adjustment >.>

But, had an inspector that is a fucking idiot, who thought my dose was a BOV making the noise.

Sticker got extended to the 22nd at least, need to pay rego, fix all the small things, and the bloke reckons I should be able to get it extended for a while because I need to wait for my mods to be approved.

Also had the plates get refused, apparently VAFANCULO has 'Offensive connotations to a minority of residents'

This car is now a rolling shell.
Parting out most of the driveline, keeping the shell and box for when I finish uni and have cash again. Bought something a bit newer and safer to keep my occupied till I finish uni.
