Hello,

i don't post much on here but i thought i'd show those interested our current little project. :)

when we got to Bunbury from Harvey:

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/7982/escort5.jpg

it's a '73 Mk1 Escort 2dr. We bought the car from Harvey after the g/f's folks saw it advertised on a pin up board in the Bunbury Plaza and rang me to tell me about it. It's unreg'd, complete and has bugger all rust for an Escort. Plans are panel and paint, interior retrim, suspension swap, engine swap ( from the original 1300 to a massive 1600! ) and hopefully one day a round headlight conversion ( just got to organise a grille! ).

some progress pics ( not alot done in these photos, need to update ):

http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/1858/escort49.jpg
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/2209/escort50.jpg

we also recently bought a second, damaged, Mk1 that we plan to use bits off such as the boot lid, suspension ( has been lowered ), maybe mags ( until we get some minilites!! ), interior bits... and the reason we bought it, the engine and g/box ( g/box has a short shift fitted ).

damaged car:

just gonna be a neat litte cruiser and something very, very different to our other vehicles.

hope you guys and girls like it

cheers
chris

ps: i think the pics might be a little too large!! will try and fix!

Awesome project mate. They are getting pretty rare these days too. I wish I kept the pair of Mk1's I had a few years back. The 1300GT Had a few nice bits on it.
Make sure you go and see Rolly at Racetune for parts. Twin cam front guards, round headlight conversion and 6 dial dash would be nice...

We've decided on a colour now although it took us ages and ages to decide. It came down to a light metallic green of some sort, Bionic Blue or Focus Orange..... Focus Orange won!! re-living my youth!!! haha!

That colour, yes!

Personally I like the stock headlights, the round-light conversion looks shit because it has all the gaps. :/

I look forward to the progress on this, so keep us updated!

Had a few Escorts (MkII) and finished off with restoring a MII RS2000 (in orange) which I unfortunately wrote off. Love these cars - the Mk I's are great because of there lighter weight compared to the Mk II's.

See you are thinking of transplanting a 1600 in...have your though about the 2 litre. I've had the 1600 and 2 litre verions and the 2 litre has a heap more torque and power and responds very well to mild mods.

I rebuilt my 2 litre myself when I did the resto, and did my own headwork based on the David Vizard book. Managed to make double the rear wheel hp with headwork, mild Piper cam (268 degrees - which is same duration as stock but more lift), rejetted carb, extractors and electronic ignition. Fitted vented discs, quickrack, konis/kings, 5 speed box. On pissy 175 semi slicks it used to lap Wanneroo short track within a second of my brothers 355 stroked LH Torrie.

Although I now have a heavily modded Nissan S15 and Ford G6E turbo - I still have a soft spot for the Escorts because they were cheap to buy and mod - and had virtually go cart handling - and nothing much ever went wrong with them.

yeah did think of a 2L but gonna stick with the 1600, my old one was a 1600 and i loved it. plus, the bent orange one has a 1600 in it and has some good bits like extractors, elec ignition, weber and the box is short shifted. the whole car was cheap as so gonna use what we have already. just want a neat little cruiser, not after much power.... i say that now!

Looks great - paint work is amazing. What rims you going for?

Might need to consider some twin cam front guards otherwise you are pretty much limited to 13" rims and 185 tyres.

ordered a set of 13" x 7" rims. front guards have been rolled and the dude reckons the car should take a 205 no worries! i hope he's right! :) just got to wait for them to arrive into the supplier then freight them over!

Love Mk1 escorts. Had a couple of MK2 RS2000's back in the day. The thought of Mk1 with bubble arches and a beasty BDA sends my knees wobbly. This one really looks neata nd the colour will make it stand out!

not really, been too busy doing everything else but this!! minor things really, cleaning bits up, checking/pulling parts off the damaged shell to see what can be used, getting the 1600 in the damaged one running which it is now etc.

oh! # 1, also found out the damaged one has Mk2 front struts! score!
oh! # 2, bought a side mirror for it, chrome bullet style!

minor update!! many years and not much change unfortunately ( rebuilding the engine in the VK and wedding planning/saving took over ).... but over the time i have:
fitted the lowered rear springs
fitted the 1600 lowered front struts
fitted the engine & box
fitted the exhaust
& got some miniltes rims

ps: bumperettes aren't staying black, just checking bolts and brackets

that's it!!! ( really needs a clean... very dusty from sitting around )
