Hey guys. Got the car around 4 years back in pretty much standard form. It's a white 1993 GTi-R. Just got it back on the road after having a heap of custom fabrication done by good old Josh at MetalCraft Marine. Finally decided to put some pics up of the build and how it looks close to being finished. More pics to come later on

hey mate, about time you put this up. remember drooling over this many a times when i was down at joshs workshop.
35r was a mission to get in there according to josh new front rad support n shiz!
how long until tim finishes up on it?
Magoogtir
17-11-2010, 09:27 PM
Cheers Tocchi. Yeah he sure knows his stuff. Wouldn't take it to anyone else. I think he thinks the car is just as much his as it is mine now hahaha
Yeah the 35R was a bit of as mission but we were able to get away with not modifying the rad support thank god. Though we did notch out the top tank on the radiator just incase the turbo decides to headbutt it lol. It's all done at Tims. It's now up at Allstar Garage getting a nice thorough dyno tune. Should be able to go get it tomorow hopefully

The amount of man-hours spent on this by Josh is incredible, and it shows in the details of the build. This will be THE definition of a hot hatch when the engine is built. :)
Would an off-the-shelf strut brace fit over the manifold and associated piping? Surely there's going to be a fair bit of twist induced on the chassis/body on a hard launch now that it's got a turbo the size of Pluto strapped to the engine. :P

Just the basic bolt on stuff, already had enough stress with my last highly modified car and want something a little less intense. Got a SSS at the moment which I had as my first car, still prefer to drive that over anything else I've owned so I've got a soft spot for Pulsars :)

Yeah the strut brace still fits in. Just didn't have it on in these pics. Next time it comes off the raod it's getting a full cage and seam welding treatment so it doesn't snap in half hahaha

Well i like to think that they're quite reliable in a pretty stock form. I have no major problems with my car when i first had it. The gearbox was the first major overhaul but mechanically it was awesome

Lots of work would be a more accurate description! Lots of triple measuring to get it all right and minimise re-work.. End result speaks for itself though.. Should boogey down the 1/4 mile with slicks

My bad lol. I came around to your house the day i got it back but you were up the hill. Still hope it will do 350. Had to get 1000cc injectors and a new fuel pump cause the most they could get with the old stuff on it was 270 and that was an epic fail haha

I think it did a 12.0-12.2 before all the new work..
With a decent tune, a nice screw in of boost, some ice in the slush box and a decent set of tyres it should walk into 11's. Only time will tell though :D

So is this thing back on the road now or what Luke ? because if it is next time JB's back in town we gotta go for a cruise hey he built the engine in his and has a little turbo (in comparison to your radiator capacity compromising beast) on it and his brother has just joined the N14 cult with a N14 SSS with a u13 sr20det swap but he just frys the fronts hard haha has a little turbo on it big injectors pump/fmic gauges the lot goes hard but just makes mush of the 17's pitty it looks like grandma's shopping trolley hahaha so yeah man you all should go for a cruise !

It's still at ASG - it would have been all over facebook if he picked it up lol. Just had to cop new injectors, fuel pump and then a tweak of the tune + cold idle, plus the boys there had to work on some other cars aside from Luke's little lunch box. Shouldn't be any reason why he won't pick it up this week, hopefully as early as today :)

Luke got this down the drags tonight straight after picking it up from ASG. After some teething issues getting used to the box again and unfortunately not able to knowingly dial in revs with a broken tacho he got a PB of 12.32. Unsure of the 60' but the closest run after this was a 12.5x with a 2.2' so there is plenty of room in it.
PB before the mods was a 12.4x on a 1.7' so there is half a second in the launch alone which equates to a bit more down the other end.
Time to wire up the tacho and fill that slush box with ice!! Car had tonnes of people with their heads stuck under the bonnet all night lol

Lag? Low boost?
4A10SHN
24-11-2010, 11:17 PM
Considering his driven it a handful of times since it left my shop I'd say his still getting used to it. Still need ice, 2 step and antilag set up and the driver needs a re tune :)

Only a 0.08s decrease in times? :/
Lag? Low boost?
12.4 @ 1.7'... the 12.32 wouldn't have been below 2.0 I wouldn't think, not with a 12.5 @ 2.2'.
Lag doesn't seem to be too much of a problem, it was bogging down on a few runs and Luke missed 2nd a couple of times as well. Just need to get everything working together.
It's running 20psi, made 315awhp, in desperate need of some aftermarket cams to get it breathing.
Don't forget this car has been off the road for 9-10 months, Luke had it for about a week before he gave it to ASG to tune and only got it back this afternoon. Pretty good result IMO, moreso when you consider he has no tacho and didn't touch the limiter once so was probably short shifting as well.

Congrats Luke. Looked killer last night mate, some awesome metal work under the engine bay. Looking at your 60ft last night you've definitely got mid-low 11s in it once you get it back down to 1.6-1.7s. It's a little ripper!
Magoogtir
25-11-2010, 08:10 PM
CHeers guys. Yeah i didn't want to hurt it last night so i went easy on most of the launches resualting in quite a bit of bogging of the line. Also launching with no tacho is not easy especially with a new setup. Once the tacho is fixed and the 2 step is up and running should easily see those 60ft times come down. Lag wasn't a problem thank god. When launched right it left the line on boost and stayed on till the finish. The short shifting was from the stock cams giving the higher revs a bit of trouble. As soon as i felt it start to struggle i changed up.
So all in all the times i ran last night were pretty dissapointing but should be quite easy to improve on once a few little things are taken care of. Looking forward to the next run

Track was balls from what I hear, the little lunch box was just peeling out every launch.
Not sure what difference a set of ET Streets will make if he can't warm them up with a skid like the GTR's do with the key off/on love.
Regardless, 11's in street trim and tyres second time back at the track is a great effort, with more to come.

Was a great night down at the track. Putting ice in the cooler and bringing the intake temps right down was making it hard to get decent 60ft times. We ran the car with just a water setup for the last 2 passes and it spun a lot less and got the 60ft times down.
I think the next move will be a set of 15" rims with some decent rubber and another go with the ice. We went through 5 bags of ice in 4 runs and the cooler was still chilled by the time the car drove back to the pits.

Cheers guys. Was an awesome night and the car got plenty of attention. The ice was sweet though the added power was hard to get off the line with the street tyres. Cheers again to Josh for all his help last night.
Next time need better tyres and more ice :)

The cooler is good. Still waiting to get some gauges hooked up to it so i can monitor it better. I think when it was getting tuned the intake temp was around the 40deg mark and only went as high as 45deg when on full boost

I went for a hot lap in this car too before the exhaust was ripped off. It feels more like a 500HP monster than a 315HP street car when it hooks up off a launch. Still munches tyres with revs, and the straight cuts sound so bombed. New engine will induce many shat pants.
