A Perth mechanic charged with recklessly driving a Lamborghini at more than 155km/h has been acquitted by a magistrate who admits he's a Top Gear "tragic".

Good fucking effort.

I hope the cops are put on desk duties for 6 months.

Saying that "this is the magistrate you want if you get hoon lawed" is a bit wrong. I'm sure this magistrate does not condone "hoon" behaviour at all but applied the relevant legislation correctly. People have to be careful not to read too much in to this. The Lambo mechanic got off because the coppers were lazy, stupid and fucked up by not having any evidence that the Lambo was infact being driven in contravention of the laws not because the magistrate likes Top Gear, Lambos or ripping skids. If people abuse this precident (or attempt to) it is quite likely that the courts or parliment will move to back the Police even in lieu of evidence. (Cops word is taken as fact)

This was good outcome for our community and will no doubt see similar flawed cases bought before the courts. However I bet the po-po will make sure they don't forget the speed monitoring gizmos from now on when they switch the party lights on.

Tongue-in-cheek is a phrase used as a figure of speech to imply a statement or other production is intended ironically and not to be taken at face value.

I'm surprised he got $18k for "court costs". I knew legal representation was expensive, but jesus...
