Advice on TF Series Holden Rodeo.

Hey guys. I have recently got my hands on a 1997 TF Series Duel cab Holden Rodeo.

There are a few things I need to know....

I can get a replacement alternator (as mine charges but has a slight oil pump leak) froma wreckers for $250.00 Used, or $500.00 new, but due to the engine model 4JG2? it's hard to find one to mate up. Does anyone know where to get one preferably new for a reasonable price? $500 bucks is a bit too steep.

I'm also wondering if '03 RA model door cards will fit onto '97-'02 TF inner door frames? (This is because 4" speakers suck, and I want to run my 5" splits)

Any other general advice would be great also.

Your alternator is leaking oil ? That part has fucking confused me.
The oil pump/oil filter housing is leaking perhaps ? That is usually a seal and fairly easy to fix if you have the time/tools.

Alternators won't be interchangeable from a 4JH1 or 4JJ1 into the 4JG2.

I wasnt aware alternators had oil in them ?

Best keep lookin for ur oil leak if i was you. Put a multimeter on battery with the engine running if its reads 13~14.5v ur alternator is fine.

They will on a diesel to lubricate the vacuum pump mounted on the back of the alt, as a diesel's intake manifold doesnt have any vacuum (as they dont have a butterfly) they need to have vacuum for various controls and obviously the brake booster.

If you can get the numbers off the alternator i will see what i can match up and price it up for you. Diesel alternators with vacuum pumps are never cheap though, id steer clear of a 2nd hand one though.

so a diesel alternator will have a vacuum/air pump that drives of the main shaft fitted to the back of it?
Hmm never knew that, makes sense tho.

Most will, some will have a vacuum pump on the injection pump....(qd32 nissan)

Sometimes its not the pump though, and more the copper sealing washers on the banjo bolt... id certainly try to be sure first!

Need to create vacuum somehow, alot of the fuel solanoids and fuel delivery is controlled via vacuum, some use it more than others but mainly for brake booster.

yeh i understand the concept of an engine needing vacuum never really thought about how a diesel would create vacuum. Guess now i know

A lot of shit needs to come out to get access to it. Apparently I've been told that the alternator is fine and charges quite well, but the oil pump at the ass end is quite near fucked. stupid brother of mine had to get the rare "intercooled" engine. Stupid pinpingpingping, it's a deisel, it won't make a huge difference will it?

I'll see what I can do.

pitty about the door cards, 4' speakers suck a BIG ONE. I have some fibreglass mounts though, but it means making a bodge job of it which I'd rather not do.

Normally a alt will have a tag or a stamping on the side, depending on how your looking at it. It will have a brand and a series of numbers ie Bosch * *** *** ***, or Mitsubishi M*****, Denso *******

Those sequence of numbers is what i need.


EDIT -Just looked at a pic of this motor. I have some experience with these motors, normally these things that ive seen throw turbo seals, that fills the cooler with oil and the oil runs down onto the back of the alternator area.... your Totally Utterly sure its coming FROM the vacuum pump?

Thr turbo is a brand spanker garrett job installed a mere two years ago. A mechanic. myself and my father reckon it's definately the alt. oil pump.
