View Full Version : Far from stock Ducati 1198

Hey all,

Figured seeing as I am pretty much finished with the modifications on the bike that I would post it and actually work out what I've done to the thing since I bought it just under a year ago! As most of you are probably aware they are a pretty mean bike stock standard weighing in at 171kg (dry) with a 170hp output but as per everything once I worked out all the bits I could modify and change on it and where to get the quality stuff from overseas I got slightly carried away. Anyway below is a list of the parts on it and some photo's of how it came standard to how it is now!

Body
Tinted Screen
Ducati Performance Race Seat
Carbon Fibre V-Guard/Oil Cooler Guard
Carbon Fibre Nose Lower Air Deflector
Carbon Fibre Gauge Housing
Carbon Fibre Airduct Covers
Carbon Fibre Mirrors
Carbon Fibre Brake/Clutch Reservoir Brackets
Carbon Fibre Key Guard
Carbon Fibre Battery Bracket
Carbon Fibre Horizontal/Vertical Engine Covers
Carbon Fibre Sprocket Cover
Carbon Fibre Undertank Panels
Carbon Fibre Vented Clutch Cover
Carbon Fibre Heel Guards
Carbon Fibre Exhaust Guard
Carbon Fibre Upper Chain Guard
Carbon Fibre Undertail Piece
"SBK 1198" Number Plate

Engine
Full 70mm Termignoni Carbon Exhaust (2010 Style) - Polish Ceramic Coated
Ducati Performance Air Filter
Ducati Performance ECU

Mechanical/Other
High and low beam HID Headlights (6000k)
White LED Park Lights
Ducati Corse Brake/Clutch Reservoir Covers
Shortie Clutch Lever
Shortie Brake Lever
Speed Cell Lightweight Battery
Ducati Performance Billet Clutch Slave Cylinder (Black)
Ducati Performance Pressure Plate (Black)
Polished SS Clutch Springs
Billet Sprocket Hub Cover (Black)
Billet Rear Wheel Nuts (Black)

I have a front Billet Wheel Nut (Black) to come but apart from that I am considering the Carbon Fibre Tail and possibly a dyno tune although it is far smoother than I thought it would be with the new ECU in it so unsure about that one but time will tell. Currently it should be running between 160-170rwhp which is very overkill for someone with my limited riding ability!

Jazza

Well pretty much anything plastic or that could be replaced by carbon has been.. I seem to have some sort of fetish! It's great because it's rubbing off on Huy (and in-turn his NUR) badly I think hahahah :)

nice! what tyres your running pliot?

Now you just need some BST carbon wheels :D

Jazza
14-10-2010, 11:43 PM
They come with Pirelli Supercorsa SP tires and they are what will go back on whenever they get worn out!
I had a long look at the BST carbon wheels and after talking to a local experienced racer discovered they mess up the balance of the bike which is great standard but has been adjusted to suit my weight and to what I am comfortable with so decided against them.

My mechanic who races gave me an indication of what settings I'd like from what I explained n we adjusted it up to suit, was quick, easy n made the bike better for me to ride!

if your interested in something alittle more, jump onto psb and pm marty moose, guy is a pro and has setup many track bikes etc he did my cbr for me and only cost around $50 or something well worth the cash.

Its amazing how much different a bike can ride once it setup for you weight

did it save any weight?

Jazza
15-10-2010, 01:17 AM
Thought about it Thommo but I don't think the belly would suit the bike. I like the white!
Thanks for the info Mike.
For the plastic parts the CF replaced I wouldn't say heaps Dan :P

Rumor has it the carbon on this bike was paid for by the owner's modelling skills, whereby when his helmet is removed women just throw money at him and run off.

I was riding with a guy a couple months back that had just put carbon fibre wheels on his k7 gixxer thou, he was raving about them saying its the biggest single improvement any mod to his bike has made. Reckons the bike suddenly felt light and super nimble thru corners, like mid corner he could just flick and change line easy.
He did also comment that at speed the front end would become a little bit floaty if u didnt have ur mind on the game.

Don't really have a decent video camera to do it with bud. It's a much deeper more aggressive note than standard now, very happy with it. I will try to get it sorted soon and post something up.

If you or anyone else wanna go be a mad dog on Perths streets that's your call but I don't know many ppl who rate Perths roads or drivers that highly.. I rode the r6 I had before slightly harder than this due to the value of what's underneath me but I've never claimed to have a lot of skill or experience when it comes to riding I just enjoy it for what it is.

so this was linked in a photo thread. just thinking outloud... this would likely be the fastest allround vehicle on antilag wouldnt it? given that these are like what? a mid 9 sec 1/4 mile bike straight out of the box, surely this is the fastest all round vehicle though, when comparing track speed vs strip speed vs street speed vs top speed?

Duke did 10.02 off the top of my head on a stock bike. This video below is awesome, he gets the front wheel up a bit too!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPNs3v4m7TA

I severely doubt even a good rider could match say Jones Evo round the track though.. Just not enough corner speed vs a properly set up track car.
Brockas doesn't bother racing me after he lost to the old R6 hahahaha

Kilma
24-05-2011, 03:23 PM
I don't think this would be the quickest, considering there are a few lurkers who are in the 9s & below down the strip.

Bikes are definitely more fun IM (biased) O though.

Brockas didn't like runs with my old GSXR1000 either. :p

Any modern superbike will do low-mid 10's with a good (ballsy) rider, using that on the street though is another matter!

As said though, on track I'm not sure they'd keep up with some of the well setup track cars here.

I love bikes, but I'll still take an exotic car anyday...even if it is slower down the quarter.

j3rk
24-05-2011, 03:36 PM
Calling it the quickest is definitely a big call, but it can certainly hold it's own against the faster cars of Antilag.
Roll-ons made me feel like I was in an excel, especially with comments like "I don't think I've ever had to use 100% throttle" pingpingping.

;846206']Any modern superbike will do low-mid 10's with a good (ballsy) rider, using that on the street though is another matter!

I wouldn't necessarily say ballsy, or good.

My old man is a fat lump, and he does consistent 10.5s on his ZX-14R.

Jazza
24-05-2011, 04:25 PM
Firstly I really doubt many of the cars that run 9s on the track (usually using slicks etc) could run anywhere near 9s (let alone being legal) on the street where as I don't think there is much of a problem for a bike to use it's power on the street. It's mainly about keeping the front wheel down to keep the momentum up unlike a high powered car that will mainly just wheel spin. I think good riders can pull of the equivalent of a 10 sec 1/4 on a fairly flat dry street road no real problems. It's just knowing what you're doing and practice practice practice which I clearly don't do. Still ditto about the exotic car regardless of the 1/4 mile times Jan!

The only time I can wrap my hand around the throttle to pull 100% is into 3rd gear as I am not good enough to slip to clutch in 2nd when the wheel starts coming up and I don't usually bother as that extra 15% is usually not really required as you know Paul.

Oh and LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL "fat lump", that's gold!

TheChad
24-05-2011, 08:19 PM
sorry i didnt mean to say the bike is automatically the fastest thing ever, i just ment over all if you compared track and strip and street and top speed of all of the vehicles on antilag this would likely be the fastest overall/average given its performance on all stages.

agree or disagree with what i said, but at the end of the day this is still probably the best looking road bike that is commercially produced today. needs go pro/contour footage...
