Dis-hearted Perth Street Car Culture

If your like me and have moved from an eastern state to Perth and have been involved in performance modifying and street/ drag racing in both states for quite a number of years you will have noticed that Perth street scene is very much V8 dominant. Not saying there is anything wrong with that, hey theres nothing better than having a turbocharged 4 cylinder that beats 6.2 ltrs for a "street car". But compared to sunny BrisVegas, Perth does not have a large Turbo 4 cylinder following. How can it based primarily on population difference for one....

Its great to see that Perth has its own street car magazine and historical copies have had a BALLISTIC TOP TEN section where you can send in your time slip from the drags and you will get your details published as a "top ten" quickest list in perth for your particular class, ie Blown 4 cylinder, Blown 6 cylinder etc...ect...

This particular magazine only comes out 4 times per year and I have tried my hardest to get my time-slip published for THE LAST 12 MONTHS, but obviously to no avail.. The latest issue came out last saturday and it appears that they have scrapped this item from the publishment all together.. no longer can anyone get any gratitude or recognition for the hard work and passion they put into the performance of their own vehicle.

Needless to say I am disappointed and will not be supporting or purchasing this magazine in the future.

I urge as many of you to write and or complain to this particular magazine in the aid of having this "Perth only - Ballistic Top Ten" section returned to the magazine, encouraging NON- V8 lovers to have their moment in the spotlight and publicly supported.

If its a 3-word title, with Perth being the predominant and first word, I've always regarded their mag as good and the guys behind the scene doing a fantastic job.

PSC is a great mag and I'll read it regardless but you are right for what minimum effort that little article would take to produce they should've kept it in the magazine.

6.2L V8 sounds pretty lame to me too, so +1 to that :)

lots of v8's in QLD as well. Due to the greater population though and more acceptance (initially) of meets such as BWCP it was easier to see who did what. If you ever went to harrys diner while back you'd of seen plenty of v8's rolling around.

I just like having a good high quality, well written and presented magazine with a heap of unique and varied contents that cater for all kinds of enthusiasts, whether it be dickhead pushrods fanboys such as myself or performance import guys, or hell even the Commondore scene...

It may come out only once every three months or so but its always full of goodcontents (I haven't seen many mags quite as thick as it), reasonably priced... who can complain?

Smutt mayb you just didnt run an impressive enough time, some very very fast 4's and 6's in WA. It has long been the general consensus in national car mags that WA is about outright horsepower and not car sex appeal.

Perth Street Car magazine is one of the only magazines I subscribe to. It has some great local cars featured and it allows shops in W.A to get their name out. Now with some imports getting featured into the magazine i enjoy it even more.

it is the (unfortunate) truth that the vast majority of "modified" car owners, or aspiring modified car owners, that in live australia (wa, being miner heavy, especially) mostly tend towards the chev badge persuasion. how many more late model lsX commodores are there out on the road right now compared to specific import models? its where the business is, so thats where the majourity of money/advertising circulates. more demand = more businesses selling the same or similar products.
