is it worth my time?

witnessed a ute/paddy tonight on Reid hwy speeding (i was a safe distance behind with speeds reaching 120) consistantly, lane changing without indicating and cutting off drivers to make a turing lane

took down the number plate and am considering trying to blow a whislte

all i could think is that if the car positions were reversed mine would be impounded or at least a hefty fine

im thinking its a waste of time in that it would be my word vs his and i would probably get put on the VOI list if i even tried

what do you think? im hoping 'fourseven' will pipe in with his comments

My guess is it would be a waste of time. I was on Marmion Ave an hour or so ago with an unmarked beside me. I was sitting right on 80 with the cruise on, cops were doing 10-15 over for no apparent reason. Failure to indicate on exit of several roundabouts too.

Oh - and they were continually in the right hand lane :)

Basically if you report it you need to be willing to go to court as a witness

Hoon Report form

Use a Hoon Report form (PDF, 55kb) to record the details of the incident and take this to your local police station. Do not put yourself at risk when trying to gather evidence.

Remember the only way a hoon may be convicted, if police don’t witness the incident, is for you to attend Court. If you are not willing to attend Court in some cases your information may help to establish a pattern of behaviour that could lead to later apprehension, and conviction, so your information is still appreciated.

Seems most think they have invincibility. Put up a fight, would show up a lot of laws. Seen cops speeding all the time, coming up to a red light, bang in the lights/whistles, progress through red light and turn of lights/whistles when on the other side, and speeding. Best thing would have been video, but who is going to randomly have a camera on them.

I'm going to play devils advocate...

Would you dob anyone else in for it? Or do you only care because it is a cop car?

There is no easy way to tell what was happening, they may have been on a job and not running lights/sirens for a particular reason. Not indicating is probably poor form but you can imagine if they are trying to get somewhere quickly, partner reading a map or whatever chatting ont he radio and unsure of which exit to take that they might cut across lanes to make it...

We've all seen a cop car speeding, I've seen them running the lights just like shifted described, and yes quite a few of them can be douchebags.

But maybe the best solution is to get over it?

I agree with Loki. I am usualy the last person to defend police, but, would you dob in anyone else? There's two reasons I think you are being a bit over the top. Firstly, 120km/h over the limit is not a hoon. Secondly, one of the biggest problems of the police is response time, sometimes they need to get to a job ASAP but it doesn't warrant the blues & 2's. If they were whipping nuts, then report it. Hoon laws are joke as it is, I personally wouldn't do anything to encourage the law.

wasting your time really they have all avenues of defence to protect themselves
And what you have is a story to tell which will fall on deaf ears

30 over posted speed limit is 'hooning' and impoundable offence

no, i wouldn't dob on anyone otherwise...just annoying that they are breaking laws they are paid to enforce...like i said, if roles where reversed what do you think would happen?

will be filing it in the too hard basket for sure...it would be like pissing into the wind

Dob the pigs in, they should be setting an example.

Wait a week then change your plates, problem solved.

I think Police should always be reported for breaking the law.

The problem is the exemptions Police have under the Road Traffic Code. It sounds like very careless driving to me, but it's very easy for the coppers in the vehicle to justify their driving - and who knows, they could have been tailing a person of interest, and if they were then they can pretty much do whatever they need to do.

If you go through the proper channels for making a complaint your car won't end up as a VOI.

Obviously not very intelligent if they were driving like that while tailing someone, the idea is to not draw attention to yourself.

40 over is hooning, not 30.

i reckon dob the pingpingpingpings in! they are the ones who pull people over and sticker them for little petty bullshit things on modified cars, when there are some shitters going around which would never pass the pits, they ping you for doing just over speed limit, give them a tatse of their own medicine i reckon!

Best thing would have been video, but who is going to randomly have a camera on them.

Even then you'd get belted for operating said camera whilst driving (if that's what you were doing at the time of the cop's hoonish behaviour)

Few weeks ago I watched two unmarked cop c'dore wagons streak down the Mitchell Fwy, mostly in the two left hand sides lanes, undertaking civilian drivers while doing well over the 100kmh limit.
After numerous lanes switches, they finally slapped on the disco lights and continued undertaking. The right hand lane was clear. Didn't get plates but even then I probably wouldn't do anything. I have zero confidence in our state's police force and believe it would be a waste of my time despite the fact I whole heartedly believe they should be setting an example.

Secondly, I nearly had a marked cop car t-bone me a couple weeks ago in Mt Lawley. I had to swerve a little into the rhs lane of my street in case he locked up coming to the t-intersection. I should have stopped and turned around to get the car's details but he took off. Again, I could probably hit up the Mt Lawley/Maylands station and find out who was driving in the area that day, but I reckon it'd be a waste of my time - my word against theirs.

So in answer to your question, if you reckon you've got enough evidence and you're feeling like a fight to try right a wrong as well as having some free time to attend court, go nuts and report the copper.

There is a high chance it will be investigated if you report it; the police themselves have plenty of resources available to investigate their own.

But in the end, is it worth it? Without high quality video to produce as evidence you'll find it difficult. If you have a line of people as witnesses then it would be a different story.

you do realise its perfectly legal to 'undertake' there & in many other places?
who gives a fuck if they were slightly speeding, its what they should be able to do if required.

That's no surprise anyway, Perth drivers are fucked and most of the cvnts would have probably been sitting in the RH lane hogging the road at 10-15km/h under the speed limit.

Good on the police for using their brains and overtaking on the LHS.
