Read on the Motorplex site today that passengers will now be allowed at WAW events for an extra $10.
Proviso is that car can not be quicker than 12.00 and they must have all the same safety gear eg helmet, long sleeves, closed in shoes.
Passenger can also be a second driver for the night.

It's probably long overdue (they have done it in the states for a while now) but good for showing off to friends/partners/relatives etc how quick your car is in a safe and legal environment.

I'm sure if you buggered up the launch and shut down a bit before the finish line you could probably stretch a low 11sec car into a 12sec one :)

Haha that's strange. This morning I was actually thinking about how much better it would be if you could have a passenger in the car whilst drag racing. /csb
Are you allowed passengers at rac skidpan?

awesome idea i think too. be good to let a mate or who ever give ya car a thrashing so that you can see how it leave the line etc and make adjustments and what not.

That's awesome. I'm thinking of going down this week and a few mates want to watch my runs, this way they can be in the car at the time videoing! Only problem is the possibility of running a high 11 and getting told to leave. Fat friends only need apply! Heh.

Lol Yeh i think its somewhat of a good idea also, about time! Wonder how much people will do it though, as the reason for going down to the drags is to try get a better PB, and to have a little fun!!

bitty it wasnt a 11.00 cut off
really they would be safer in a caged car . but hey 12.00 its a start and should be fun scaring a few people on the start line

I can see a lot of the faster cars doing half track passes to scrape into the 12's just to scare the life out of family and friends on the launch/60ft.

Looking forward to taking the car down for some rides then getting banned @ the end of the night :D

Street tyres should net 12s for any heavy tank cars. I reckon it's a great idea!

I wonder whether they will let me do a half track pass. Would be good to give my pit crew a thrill.

that was thinking the same thing . 12.00 not that fast but a good hard launch should scare the pants off a few people

from the paper they gave out with entries over the past few weeks, it mentioned something about cars that were previously known to run quicker than the 12.000 cut off they wouldn't be allowed.

Sounds like a "smart idea" to do it. Costs $45 to race. Spectator is normally $17 now, add another $10. they collect $72 for just one car and i imagine your not going to get to go out multiple times within the same lane. so win win for the motorplex $$$ wise.

As the car owner. you'll get even less runs on a busy night.

If however you normally used to share with your gf/wife/brother whatever you'll safe money as you wont have to pay $90 to race.

I think it's a bit devo to have Andra members pay the same rate as non-andra members now though. That was supposed to be 1 of the perks of being an andra member, now it's not worth doing if you can or just want to run consistant 12.0's.

I've got a 12 second commodore in the garage if you want to passenger and drive that for some Wednesday fun when I get off my ass and head there :)

Sweet, sounds like a plan. :)
Mite have to throw some slicks on it, trip the beam and sit there for a couple of seconds before going.

^^ LOL.. I'll still run 12's with slicks, you have too much faith in me.

Re: Cars quicker than 12.000 taking a passenger down the Motorplex if the car is setup to run a 12.000 +

Hi Dan,

In an instance such as this I would do an honest lap (not trying to wood duck the stewards) first.

If the time was above 12.000 I would slide over and get the passenger deal done.

The other way is to try and get the passenger deal done on the understanding that if you went sub 12 they would simply say - sorry the passenger has to step out.

Having said that I do not know if the stewards know of your vehicles history...if you roll in and they say - whoa this thing is an 11 second car...then you may have to say - it has no slicks etc etc...and see if they will give you the green light.

We too are hoping this works as it will add some more fun into the WAW's.

If you decide to have a crack...simply get the passenger to request a passenger ticket at the competitor gate (additional $10).

They are to present this to the indemnity officials in teh scrutineering building. In return they are to sign an indemnity and receive a wrist band...and away they go!

From tomorrow on there are no requirements for 'second drivers' and to pay for an extra driver as the purchaser of a passenger ticket can also drive (if he is allowed to drive his mates car that is :)

Might ask here, sort of related..

I am planning on going down tomorrow afternoon, hoping to beat my pb but that will put me below 11.99, not sure what happens if I do. Will the officials just tell me to piss off straight away or what?

AGIT8D
05-10-2010, 07:38 PM
That depends if you have an ANDRA license and your car is setup to go below 11.99 ie tailshaft loop, harness, isolation switch etc etc :)

heller44
05-10-2010, 09:06 PM
Obviously if it was then I wouldn't be asking :)

if you just break in to the 11's they wont kick you out they will normally let you run the night out unless your been a dick
i went 11.70 and i got to race the night out

There is no obviously around here lately... Break it down and over-inform or I'll have to assume you might be a tool asking stupid questions like many have been doing.

It will depend who is working on the WAW and if they've got a root, some people have been shown the door for going high 11's without the required "extras".

I am going tonight to run the RVR. Not expecting toooo much, only got exhaust and slightly lower/stiffer than stock springs, but it's a base figure in case I get shitty my partner's turbo Foz beats mine and I have to start modifying to keep close.

Competitive, much!?

If anyone's heading down tonight with a decent camera a mate is running his gay supra for the first time after bulk mods.

Plate is FULYSIKTT, white Supra with gay blue mesh in the front bar and Foose wheels.

Just had twin HKS 2835s bolted on, making 510hp.

If someone gets a chance for some good quality pics he'd be stoked!

Heading down to hopefully get kicked off for running 11's...stock PB was 13.59 in my ZF auto equipped BFII XR6T. I'm a noob though so probably will end up with low 12's :) Fingers crossed the new mods do the job! Oh and it's street tyres (Kumho KU31's) as well just to make it harder for myself.

Silver Xr6T with angel eyes, come say hi if you see me in the line!

Decent effort powerwise :) Looked swift on the track at Barbs, should do well at the plex with that amount of power.

hehe that would be nuts :P

Didn't do so well, couldn't suss a decent launch and ran a couple 15.2s. Definite room for improvement though.

Decent camera - fail. Best I had on me in the lane though!
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff91/phyber83/ForumJunk/Phone003-8.jpg

Had a good chat to him after the night ended, our last run was together and I almost caught up to him after taking 2 seconds to launch. He's just got too much power, needs slicks! He ran a 12.689 @ 123mph (198kmh) to my new PB of 11.949 @ 120. Car looked nice and clean, the rims to mesh colour combo is carrying a theme at least, not too over the top I thought.

My first run, GF in passenger seat - 12.2
last run, no GF and a proper launch - 11.9

Looks like I have a solid ricer excuse for on the street, excellent! "But my gf is in the car".

I never knew she was 0.3 seconds heavy though!! xD

Not a good night.. First run had to get pushed away from the line, walked the second away for a 12.03, and the last one popped again just after leaving the line... Not happy.

^^ I think I was behind you when you popped the first time. Liked how everyone just watched you trying to move without offering a push straight away!
