Hi guys,
I've bought some gen III extractors for my commodore and before I put them on I've heard HPC coating is really ideal for keeping engine bay temps down and also keeping them looking nice and shiny. Its also pretty expensive I've found with most places around Perth not giving you much change back from $500. (which is more than I even paid for the extractors in the first place)
I know VHT have a range of heatproof pants and engine enamels, are these worth using while the extractors are off the car? I realise the difference in engine bay temps will probably be pretty minimal, I'm just mainly worried about the extractors looking rusty and unsightly over time. Or if anyone knows any workshops around Perth that are competitively priced in HPC coating then let me know but I think in terms of benefit/money spent the value wont be there.
Thanks in advance.

paint wont last, coating is the best option for rust prevention/performance/looks/temps

Okay understood, it seems like the best option might be to freight the extractors to the east coast and get jet-hot to hpc coat them.

yep that will prly be cheaper than just paying $500 to a great local company like CIC and having your headers ready in a week

CIC is a forum sponsor and do great work. Use them.
what is the freight east and back? going to insure extractors?
on a separate issue can CIC coat stainless?

Given they can coat valves I'd say they can.

okay looks like i might need to just pay the $500 and get it done properly at CIC, from what I hear the coating stays pretty polished looking for a fair while anyway. thanks for your help everyone.

explain the kind of finish that your looking for, and they will be able to tell you which product will do that best. seen lots of people ask for what they think they want, and then it turns out crap.

Escorts right on, the ceramichrome will dull pretty much straight away to a satin silver won't look polished. Double black would be the go if you want heat insulation over appearance , but give em an ear wag they have plenty of sample gear to show you.

Thanks for the info, I always prefer function over form so double black sounds perfect for my application.:)

If you take a sneak peak on the last pew pages of the current Perth Street Car magazine, there is a new HPC chrome coating that does actually stay chrome and doesnt discolour from use / heat etc...
Might be worth checking out if your keen for a polished look!

I found it cheaper to post a set of extractors to melbourne to HPC to get coated than to get CIC to coat them here.
Im more than happy with HPC's service and price!
Pipes need to be less than 1m long to post cheap though.
