View Full Version : yes its a van !

ok some weird reason i always end up modifying toyota commercials .
1st build was back in 2002 in which i built a 1jz , getrag , gt30 400rwhp hilux 2wd ( slylux )
a few jzx90 's in the middle inc a manual 2jzgte
and now somehow im back in to toyota's that dont belong with a JZ in them
im talking about a japanese hiace super custom , basically the same rig that does airport transport and run abouts in bali , phuket etc
7 seater van , with all pimping jap features like electric curtains , joyfull talk ( intercom to back seats) electric seats and steering crap , digi dash etc etc
basically an aristo features packed with gutless engine power .
now 99.8% are 3lt turb diesels in australia , but somehow i come across a petrol 2rz efi model , personal imported ( the only way they can come in because australia doesnt have compliance for the petrol model)
anyway , after a few measurements and very little info on the web i took the plunge to 2jz no shit it ! cause i know i can .
well its now running and almost ready to work.
it got a tune today made 330rwhp at 14psi with a very safe and conservative tune , and on a low reading dyno (c-red)
did a couple of power runs at 16 ( made 360 rwhp and 18 psi looked to head toward 380rwhp , but backed off )
its only running stock ecu , stock injectors and cowboy haltech interceptor ( this is whats limiting the 400 rwhp but a proper ecu and injectors will fix that )
thanks to mark, phil , gossy @ triptek for help with wiring , mike 2jzlux ( moral support and kicking me in the ass to finish it ) and tristan @ WTF auto for tune , chris for the help with exhaust and other fab skills , guy is a chamP!!
and missus for putting up with me working every spare moment i have on this thing !
specs
jzs147 aristo 2jzgte and auto
ebay manifold , gt35 BB .82 exhaust , tial 44mm , blitz ecu and haltech interceptor , ebay 57mm alloy radiator ( man it seems to be working awesome!) full 3" s/s exhaust .
pretty much everything else in custom !
from stock arib van

You motherfucker, that is AWESOME!
How have you gone about fixing the weight distribution? I can imagine there's a lot of wheel spin with next to no weight being over the rear wheels...
That is to fucking cool!
Bet my van still does better single peggers.

I would love to do a feature on that ;-)

Never heard from you.
The LUX looked good in the mag atleast...
Well done on this build mate - VERY different! :-)

naa i didnt get any slylux pics.
diff , high stall , mv shift kit is plans for this weekend , and finish off and get ready for power cruise.
so if ya wanna check it out powercruise will prob be best place as im not one for street cruises.
shame i couldnt pull off a 400 rwhp , but i spose its better than a couple of melted pistons

Please tell me the gate is VTA!?
It was but it got plumbed back, but has the option to do both would probably take about 15 mins to swap around.
Plumb back gate makes baby jesus cry.

23-09-2010, 10:11 PM
It still sounds like it going to rip your head off when it opens, dont forget you are just about sitting on the gate when driving.
Im sure marty will swap it over for powercruise.
Haha fair enough,any vid's yet?

keep the gate plumbed in, little more boost and LSD.
this is a mad ride, i actually want to have a ride.
mxracer
24-09-2010, 06:14 AM
gate was plumbed back, makes it easier for tuners and workshop to do their thing !
it will be vented for PC , but i built this thing to drive , not to cruise, hoon , drag. dont wanna give out the wrong impression
i love the van chassis layout , and its a bussiness purpose van , i carry things with it and nothin is worse than a gutless van ,loaded up with bikes n gear , spare motors and bits and bobs, and towing if need be.
after PC plans are engineers cert (if anyone knows dpi approved engineers with half a brain please pm me !!! ) as its very high on my agenda to get done.
How have you gone about fixing the weight distribution? I can imagine there's a lot of wheel spin with next to no weight being over the rear wheels...
these things have the engine mounted quite far back - almost mid-engined i think.
awesome build, congrats.

mxracer
24-09-2010, 07:03 AM
Yes the engine is fairly far back. My tailshaft is 65 cm long to give ya idea , and being a jap hiace it doesn't have the usual rear leaf solid axle diff setup, it has solid axle rear trailing arm coil spring.

WOW! As others have said, fucking awesome build mate :)
mxracer
24-09-2010, 07:46 AM
Yea I considered a 3sgte. But I just don't know all that much about them, I've played with jz for years so I'll stick with motors I know.
Cooling was one of my worries, a 57 mm alloy radiator is fitted with the huge hydro fan , which from sounds of it is hardly needed , tuner said it didn't go over 88 deg c on the dyno, and fan doesn't even kick in till 94 odd. Plus being design most cars have the advantage of dyno with bonnet open. Well I can't do that. Cooler is a 4" thick 450x300 I think.

I didnt even get a mention for all the parts i provided :( Great conversion cuz all the pipe fab work is incredible and due credit is well deserved.
Car will be with a group of 10+ others at PC and i hate to say doubt they'll much chance for individual cruises being that all the others in the group would want to go cruising in the van :p

ive overlooked updating this thread .
well ill give a quick rundown after the 340 rwhp at 14psi tune , it was run at powercruise 2010 , there is some videos on my youtube channel here
http://www.youtube.com/user/mx118racer
the very short skid vid is what got me banned for 2 years ( load of shit)
anyway , after thatit copped some 550 sards and a retune of the interceptor and i got 390 rwhp at about 22 psi but it had a bad lean spot as it was spooling into boost and it made it feel really laggy and not fun to drive , but i still went down to the drags and peeled out a 12.5 at 109 mph . 1.93 60ft time
and put it on the scales down there is was 1830kgs
this was running a 3.58 ratio rear diff which was the only lsd i could find at the time , so the diff ratio is shockily a bad suit to a 1800kg brick
anyhow ive finally got around to buying a haltech plat2000 ecu , also got rid of the aristo valve body in the auto and fitted a z30/jzx90 valve body with a 3 sol and kick down cable setup . so now the auto is controlled completely by a suprastik and the engine by the haltec
well a massive thanks to jeff bones at c-red has fitted the new haltec and suprastik and gave it a quick tune , to result in a much better driving car and now has even more potential than before.
its only a start off tune ,as was limited by a 1.5bar map sensor inbuilt in the ecu ( so i need to order a 3bar map to run more boost ) it made 388rwhp at 18psi ( so 4psi less then before and same power ) and a final boost pressure of 20psi got me 412rwhp , on a pretty safe tune and on the same low reading dyno that WTF tristan uses.
ill need to go back for a couple of little things and run it up again in a few weeks or so but i dont feel i want much more power , im sure the auto box is already hating me !
oh and 1 other cool little featue i gained is ive got a jzs161 steering wheel fitted and now im running the suprastik , it has a functional paddle shift selection controlled from steering wheel buttons .
next on plan list fit 4.1 gears ive got , and head to drag to try improve on the 12.5 . ultimate goal is 11.99 and get kicked out
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y3/slylux/vandyno001.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y3/slylux/dyno001.jpg

Still cant believe you got banned for that skid
Aristoman
03-05-2011, 05:04 PM
Holds rock solid the boost when it hits boost :P
Alot better tune with a proper ecu then last time by a country mile....
Frenetic setup and you're right anymore power and stock auto will fly the red flag up in not time....How many tranny coolers are you running again if any ?
With those slickettes it'll give an 11 a shake for sure !
Agree with TJ.....BS !!!!

dissapointing night , cooler , more hp , better tune , better diff ratio and only gained some mph and .bee's dick off the 12.5 at 109 mph 1.9 60ft from before
thing feels so much faster and more responsive then it did before but 60ft times i think are letting me down .. i cant stall it enough to produce boost on the line
3800-4k stall will fix it , not sure if ill go down that path just yet , would be keen to crack 11.99 but it still needs improvment
slicks are for safety , its not fun to drive sideways at high speed in this bus ,id rather run slicks(porsche cup track tyres ) to be safe

Not much of a skid but you didnt have any wheelspin on the run so they're doing there job :)
Brick goes bloody hell and 12.4's is ridiculous !

na mate 2 wheels are smoking . yea tj terrible night , cold track and yea those track tyres are no good for drags .. have to save up some dollars to get some proper street slicks
i also got warned by andra offical. i have to return with a 4 point harnes cause im doing over 176 km/h terminal .. officals really hate the van .. im sure alot of guys are down there doing 180 plus and not getting 11.99 and not inforced with 4 points

Surely that has to be some sort of mistake? Thought you had to do a 11.99 or quicker for the harness? I did steady 185kph trap speeds all night without any issues from officials...

Seen it at the drags a few times now mate, people around us were very suprised when it took off from the stages. Love it!! Strange that they were asking for a harness at 176. I was doin low 12 with 183,184km/h and nothing from them.
Might be bacuase of the size / shape perhaps? Or maybe there jelous :)

Fuck me marty, please tell me they are steel wheels? If not, those ceramic blades will relocate themselves faster than your trap speed...
Wouldn't it of been easier just to grab a cast manni and china turbo?
mxracer
22-10-2011, 09:17 AM
nope stock turbo , ill see how long they last . china setup would of been ok , but means more money spent ..( but i will consider that if these are a failure )
my old 2jz x90 had stock turbos with everything setup the same as how im setting this up .. other than twin 3" dump , i just had a cast Y section mani .
that thing in true twin was nice to drive , made 300 rwhp at 12psi , so im hoping boost with dumps should be controllable to 14-15psi. which is fine for ceramic wheels.
and lets face it 300 odd rwhp is heaps enough for a van and will still go ok ... for a van

If you could happily push it to 18psi if you mod the wastegate - from memory its not too big much of an enlargement, something you would be pretty capable of I think!
mxracer
22-10-2011, 09:45 AM
yea , going to port the wastegate holes out .. im using 2x front turbos on it , thus why i had to make custom dumps ..so each turbo has its own real wastegate . the rear turbo on the stock seq setup , doesnt really have a wastegate as such , its complicated, and to be honest i still dont know how the rear turbo system works , but either way its going to be trial and error .

wont be too much longer before i can get some results with stock twins
twin intakes , twin 3" dumps , twin parallel turbos , ported wastegates ( yes 2 of them , cause seq system only has 1 wastegate )
