Just interested in peoples experience regarding 'packing' oil pumps in order to allow the pump to draw oil on start up in a fresh engine.
There seems to be alot of different schools of thought on what to use, engine assembly lube/moly grease/vasoline....
Any info/experience would be appriciated.
Have always used vasoline, never had a problem.

was reading the warrenty of a jp high volume pump the other day. says using vasoline negates warrenty. Suggested was putting on a new filter half filled with oil, then filling the unit with oil through the sender unit hole. Then rotating the crank by hand and adding more oil untill full with no air bubbles
How is it going to stuff the pump? I'd rather have piece of mind that I will have instant pressure then fuck my motor just to avoid losing the warrenty on my $200 pump.

let me refrase that it actually mentioned grease. more than likely a disclaimer to stop dicks putting in incorrect shit that wont break down in the oil.

I have always used vasoline, as soon as it gets hot it just dilutes into the oil anyway.
Not sure what you mean about drawing water but doesnt vaseline repel water?

I always fill the sump through the oil press sender hole before i start with a manual pump. You can watch the oil come up through all the gallerys and to the cam journals with the rocker cover off. Have done it this way and never had a issue. If you do damage after doing this, youve got something wrong on your build IMO
