I know this has been the go over east for a while now but heard half the story on radio news this avo.
Apparently WA police will be "trialing" speed cameras inside vans on the side of the freeway. I think it was the police minister who said in the news clip that they are not trying to hide the cameras its to make it more safe for the operators and you will be able to spot the vans as THEY HAVE A LARGE WINDOW AT THE BACK :slap:

This was the only bit i could find on Perthnow.com
http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/western-australia/wa-police-trial-new-speed-cameras/story-e6frg13u-1225928003002

Was just on news. This state is becoming pathetic. Revenue raising cash cows. Have to come up with a way to manipulate these cameras...

the ones they have here in brisbane are in normal vans, with normal windows, in several models and different colors. Pretty hard to pick sometimes.

My dad works over East in the security industry, soo many stories about these.

Some bad, ie they've been shot at, vandalized, etc

Some good, ie, car pulls up, girls chat to guy operating camera inside while their guy friends crawl up, nick the plates off (fit to own vehicle), then speed past the van 10x in a row doing 20 over (true story, and they got caught eventually)

Dunno wtf the fuss is about, they stand out like a dogs balls. Definately not "revenue raising".

i dunno wont it be easier to spot a van on the side of the road?

they have them in the NT, except they have hi Vis stripes on the van. But they are equippied wih longer range so when you spot it, you might as well keepgoing the same speed.

Pull over, take plates off, drive through? Or do a U-turn...? Suppose your just fucked really hey.

Meh. Easier to spot a brand new VW Transporter on the side of the road. At least on a highway/freeway anyway. Might be difficult in busy areas (imagine them setting up next to a construction site among other commercial vehicles).

Laser interceptor supposedly cracked the poliscan a long time ago.

Have a read of this http://www.radardetector.net/forums/laser-jammers-general/61168-western-australia-news-article-laser-park-pro-does-defet-poliscan-3.html while it's not definitivly proven they seem quite certain they have cracked it as it really just comes down to the PPS rate.

Won't be an issue for car enthusiasts to spot, but don't forget, we are a dwindling minority. The vast majority of drivers out there won't even think a white van on the side of the road is a speed trap, and these are the people who the government are using as cash cows.

^^ big deal?

If you're too senile to pay attention to your speedo and/or a suss looking van on the side of the road, safe to say you deserve the speeding fine (on a revenue raising level) or not be on the road at all ... just my honest opinion.

It's not about "being too senile to pay attention to your speedo"
Do you realise how frustratingly backwards Perth is with it's speed limits?

I got really pissed off when I heard this news but then I thought exactly what you've said.
It's gonna be a lot easier to spot a giant white pedo van rather than the camera on it's own.

Yep they tried using white Triton-esque vehicles a while back with the canopy on the back and tinted rear window. Not sure why they stopped using them - probably because as said, they're easier to spot than the little black tripod.

Just get yourself a Valentine 1 or don't speed. Simple.

Everyone will wipe off half there speed anyway. It seems everytime someone is broken down or pulled over on the side of the freeway for whatever reason, every pingpingpingping wants to slow the fark down to have a good hard look at what is going on.

New Forest hwy could easily support cars at 140kmh.. but no, lets make it 100kmh, then stick cops in hidden spots at 7.40am .. like the two I saw on Sat morning on the way down.

Thats fucking frustrating.

No shit, I got flashed going 107 in the 100 zone, you could even see the 110 sign in the distance of the photo.

Even Roe Hwy should be 110.

Even Roe Hwy should be 110.

Even the end of Alexander drive heading north needs a greater limit - 70kph limit, straight, wide dual lane road. Nothing on the side of the road but a couple of market gardens. Cops always hiding somewhere along that road. Meanwhile Gnangarra road at the end of it - 90kph limit, single lane, very narrow, poor quality road, massive solid power poles close to road...yeah....

TJ
23-09-2010, 11:44 AM
Alexander Drv used to be 90.. then 80.. soon all of it will be 50kmh I dare say.

While I agree we should have higher speed limits....do consider that higher speed limits require longer entry and exit ramps / lanes, longer notice to ending lanes, extra support lanes etc

In certain shitbox cars, onramps are hardly enough to get up to 100kmp/h, let alone 140kmp/h

Perth sucks at merging, you can't just UP our 100/110 zone roads to 140 without modification to said roads.

My old 1L superCarry could get up to 110 on most onramps, and my datto 180b with rooted rings could do the same. No excuse for not using your right foot.

i laugh at the excuse for these.... "to reduce the harm to the operator".

now they can basically put them anywhere without the need to try and hide a vehicle in the bushes.

And what if it failed that one time, coming into a left lane, right in front of a loaded road train sitting on 130-140 (even though all Multiple Combinations are limited to 100kmp/h, besides the point).....?

Certainly not bashing the idea - but there are people out there that will complain the speeds are unsafe and it's hard on engines.

Rear facing is probably a go. They will love driving them into the bushes on Roe Hwy and whatnot.

Not speeding is the only way of course, but I will still get shitty over their claims of road safety thanks to a mobile speed camera and not an actual cop car.

In fact.. I'd love it if they changed it 180° and said "we're going to take the cash from your speeding wallets left, right and centre - try and stop us!". At least it's honest.

Mrs is just getting her license thingo.

Her instructor told her that on an on ramp - you are meant to do 80.

I don't understand, the sign says 100, why are you meant to do less? Seems like the instructor is a fuckknuckle - going 80 would slow down that entire merging lane.

Even the instructors don't know what they are doing...

Thats the main issue right there, fucking idiots teaching people to drive.

My kids 9 years old and already knows to keep left, he wont have a license for another 8 years !!
