The plan was actually to buy this worked starlet GT over in Sydney, but after organising freight, tickets, accommodation I got a call from the seller saying it was stolen. This 2 nights before I planned to fly into Sydney to pick up the car, and at the time I was in Melbourne. Still not sure if he changed his mind or it really got stolen, both nonetheless shit happens....
few weeks of just leisurely looking for a fun daily, i stumbled across this 1990 sw20 turbo, manual and an assortment of different colour panels. Bought in mid 2009 and been slowly.... yes i reiterate, SLOWLY working on it since! haha
My other car is mildly modified twin turbo aristo, so when i test drove the mr2, i was impressed with its handling.
It had a flat battery, and some multicoloured panels but we put a battery off another car in it and the engine started on first click. The owner had told me he hadnt started it for a couple months.
came with just a Kakimoto single exhaust

Okay, i proceeded with trying to take the dump off to fit the berk dump v ....that failed just couldnt get to all the nuts! , so my mate and I ended up taking the entire, manifold-turbo-dump in one go. And at that time, a ct20b highflow/steel wheeled had come up for sale locally

the specs of the CT20b highflow/steel wheeled are unknown, but it was rebuilt by ATS in melbourne with a T4 B2 or V2?
Finished installing the ct20b highflow in a days work, berk exhaust and greddy-copy intercooler kit in on the day too.

Nope i was the 3rd since it was imported, though i think she got around a bit since tristan took it off me.
I got it off a guy called Imran back in 05, he purchased it off a chick from AFARCC who had brought it in from Japan solely for track work.
Awesome to see man looks like you got some solid plans!! best of luck with her, had an absolute blast with it, heaps of memories.

Taxi driver wrote it off you goon, tristan purchased it off me back in 06, patched it up and used it for a workshop hack, she's seen the rounds!!
edit, sold it closer to 08? pretty sure.

Looks good.
You'll love the wilwoods, and nice to be able to use off the shelf rotors too.
Might want to run it on the dyno to check AFR's if that is a chipped ECU from japan, they often run nasty lean.

definitely not running lean, its drinking about 14L/100km at the moment, and comes overly rich when it comes on boost. Before the FZX garage ecu, i was getting around about 10L/100kms.
cant wait to see how the brakes are, should be here in a week. I've also heard good reviews on the pads too, anyone else use Porterfield R4S pads before?

So installed the gen 3 calipers (22-V) with 281mm slotted rotors on sunday with a mate Sean. As you can see, we had to pull the angle grinder out to cut off dust shield. Then realised we needed a 3/8 hex key socket to fit my front wilwoods.
Borrowed a Torque Wrench from my mate Andrew up NOR, and a hex key socket from Shane on here, CHAMP!
Here are the results:

So impressions? Took a while to bleed the system, used nearly 1L of fluid! It was Castrol Super Response DOT 4. Had a small drive to try bed them in. Considering these are much bigger brake system matched to a BMC suited to a smaller system, the initial bite isn't is to be expected. Which is not much bite till about half way, then when it does, grabs like a mofo! To solve this problem I think I'll probably upgrade to a 1" bore BMC from a 4Runner/Surf to have increased pedal feel and reduced total pedal travel.

Looks shit upclose, but looks okay from a couple metres away. Not fussed with aesthetics as its a daily track shitter anyways.

that vynal wrap looks awesome, whats the cost for the materials on that ? and how hard issit to fit ?
teknoboi
05-10-2010, 07:57 PM
Its a bitch to fit, but that was my first time playing with vinyl. Probably easy if you do it for a living.
I bought 18m of 3M 180 Vinyl, cost about 25/m. Used only 15m, but im gonna redo the bonnet again. Apparently the 3M 180C is a easier vinyl to wrap with, but cost about 35/m. So it was relatively cheap, labour took about 8 hours or so with my sister helping me out, would have been a shit load easier if there was another. The flatter the surface the easier to wrap, any curves and what not, you'll need a heatgun/hair drier oh and a couple of squeegees and a blade to cut it up.
But this is a temporary, if you see it up close, you'll see my shoddy skills lol.
PS, cheers for all the comments guys! will be seeing you shortly only the track!

haha nah i reckon it looks awesome..fuk the haters!, im sure it doesnt look that bad close up. does it stretch much on its own or really needs heating to stretch anyways ?
teknoboi
05-10-2010, 08:59 PM
hahah yea, cheers buddy! It doesnt like stretching on its own, but stretches easy when heated, you dont need much heat. I just used a hairdrier and it was all sweet. Just gotta make sure not to over stretch it. then once an area is stretched you gotta heat it up again to relax the stress in it.
