Okay, here is my problem.

When I start driving my car drives fine during cold start etc.
the problem only seems to occur when its warm to hot.

when i drive it drives fine up until about 3000 4000 when it starts to splutter and backfire.
this only recently started happening since i put on an FMIC and 3" turbo back exhaust.
Ive had a look at the leads and plugs and they all seem to be fine, I think its the coil packs.
but just to be sure i wanted to check with everyone else.
it is an rb25det series 2

I have people saying its a timing problem, an ignition problem, fueling problem or a computer problem so I have no idea at the moment

any help would be great thanks.

Tune, do it.
Air to fuel ratio is gay.

It's not uncommon for 25's to spit coil packs

gap the plugs down to like .8mm if missing clears replace plug and coil packs

ahh righto, thanks for the replies guys.
I will go out later on and buy some cheaper copper plugs and re gap them to .8mm so I don't have to ruin my platinum iridium ones.
If that works then cool, if not I will try new coil packs.

The air/fuel looks to be alright too, haven't tried gapping the plugs yet.

It sits 14.5 to 15.5 around idle, 14.0 to 15.5 while cruising in various gears and speeds, 12.0 to 13.5 when I hit boost

Okay, I have just gapped the plugs to 0.8mm and just took it for a test drive.
It is still missing and backfiring, but no-where near as bad as it was previously.
I'm thinking its still the coil packs?

I had a look at the plugs too and plug number 6 was a little bit chalky white, the rest of them had normal usage.
Has anyone else had this problem?

yes everyone has this problem(well lots do anyway) gapping plugs down takes load off coil and can give better spark, go to jpc and grab a set of coil packs :)

Thanks guys for the info.
The problem has pretty much gone away, I bought some second hand job series 2 coilpacks with about 70,000km on it, so later on I will probably go out and get some splitfire ones.

I guess the coil packs hadn't been changed at 100,000km so they were probably starting to shit them selves.

if its missing and not backfiring, yes coil pack / spark plug issue

if its backfiring, ie firing order is going haywire when hot, you have a different issue

make sure you know the difference!
