A few days ago I noticed my car making a weird murmuring sound at idle, it seems to be coming from the front left hand side of the motor near the belts, on that side of the motor is the water pump (replaced 40,000kms ago) and the starter motor.

I have my suspicions it could be the starter motor or alternator, as on the ODD occasion, it won't start up unless I give it a grace period, but on other occasions it starts straight up, also the lights flicker a bit when cornering (not talking about hard either)

The sound is also a bit prevalent on downshifts.

Any ideas?

Not just a pulley? Had something similar in the 2J - couldn't pin point.

I was about to laugh then realized that actually could of happened.

The plastic brackets that hold the wiring inside my 33's fenders fell apart from the tyres rubbing on it. Had to tuck the wiring further up inside it with cable ties = problem solved.

Get yourself some garden hose and put it in your ear. Move the other side around the bay should give you more of an idea where the issue is coming from.

Motor wishes turbo was on other side obviously.
