Anniversary today of the 9/11 attacks.

What were you doing when it happened?

I was at work at West Australian Newspapers and without warning all the presses stopped. Word quickly spread about the plane hitting the tower and we all went to the lunchroom to watch the live news broadcasts. Something you dont forget in a hurry.

Driving a 793 on nightshift at the Kal superpit.
Remember people calling up dispatch for locations and the dispatch operator telling everyone to 'shut up...shits just gone down big time in the US" LOL

Was a pretty crazy feeling listening to all the news reports etc live, then coming home and seeing nothing but the image of the planes flying into the towers...over, and over, and over, and over, and over again....for the next week!

Was in class in year 6 I think. Fark I am old. Didn't really hear much, but school was nuts with memorial shit for a week or so, I think I still have the West Australian from around then or so with their cover story on it. Unless I ditched that somewhere.

Was watching Rove also, Bret The Hitman Hart was supposed to be on, then they crossed to what was happening. I didn't sleep either, stayed up all night to see what was happening.

Was watching it then all of a sudden the next plane hit.

School the next day and everyone was talking about it. I don't think we actually had a proper day class wise.

Was watching the season finale of Lock, Stock on ABC and the last 15mins was cut off when the news reports started coming in. I thought it was a massive hoax/prank or a movie clip etc. then the reality set in when every channel started showing footage of the jetliner crashing into the building. Creepy.

Was in class in year 6 I think. Fark I am old.

Then my uncle called and explained to me that this was a massive thing so i woke my parents up and we spent the rest of the night watching the updates, followed by a full day at school the next day watching too

Came home from a friends house. My sister rang me to tell me what had happened. My parents were supposed to be in New York that day but changed their plans at the last minute - they didn't tell us, of course, so she was looping out.

It's probably the most surreal experience I've been through. Watching people jump to their death on live TV is not something you forget in a hurry.

I can only imagine what people who experienced WWII would have gone through.

I remember clearly, I was procrastinating on a 1st year uni assignment, sitting on my PC on mIRC when someone mentioned it, so I flicked the TV onto SBS and lo and behold.. there it was.

I was watching the broadcast when the second plane went in.. I remember feeling sick to the stomach watching it.

I was in year 12, was sitting at my desk at home doing my English home work when my sister told me to come in and watch the telly NOW.

I sat there watching the thing until about 2-3am kinda stunned and worried. The next day at school was all a bit weird. Half the place talking about what happens if war is declared, why would someone do this. We had a band rehearsal in the afternoon with girls from Santa Maria, their reaction was all a bit different. None of them wanted to talk about it and all seemed a little more traumatized than we did. The impact it had on them was a lot greater than it was on us guys.

Everyone was just finding it hard to comprehend exactly what had happened and the story behind it.

Driving home Leona's after we had a bit of a falling out. Get the sms "we fight and the world goes to shit".

Got home switched on tv and watched the chaos unfold and saw the 2nd plane hit live. Sat on IRC chatting with most of you old school muppets about it most of the night :p

Personally it is just another day now for me and I don't particularly care. It has been used as an excuse for other actions much like christmas/etc is just used for commercial satisfaction.

was also watching rove. it was nearly 10 years ago but like most people have mentioned, it's not an easy thing to forget - actually watching live coverage of the 2nd plane hitting the building, tower 1 collapsing, and people jumping to their death because they didnt want to burn or be crushed...my god.
the next day at school was certainly different, we had the tv on in just about every class. was in year 10 at the time. the conspiracy behind it all has always made me wonder, the real reason for 9/11 will never be known.

Watching Rove whilst writing up plans for the classes I was teaching the next day.

Then the world changed forever... I didnt sleep that night.

Was also watching Rove and was looking forward to that episode all week because Bret Hart was going to talk about his brother Owen's death earlier on in the year. Then the commercial break was on and Rove was not to be seen again that night... Was pretty pissed off but was too young to have a clue what was going on.

World did change in a sense of Team America and Terrorist jokes though lol. - In all seriousness though I never saw footage of the people jumping out of the buildings and stuff, would have been traumatic to witness.

Came home from Tafe (doing welding night course), sat down at about after 9ish, watching ABC show Lock Stock (series after the movie), Some black guy shooting with a piston in each hand then it was interrupted by a news bulletin.

Was freaky to say the least, Dad walks past and asks what movie i am watching.

Was also interesting to note as well, flicking from every channel after it happened, SBS and channel 7 were still playing regular programming when it happened, sbs came back 15 minutes later with a bulletin, channel 7 were still sleeping.

I was living in Tom Price, best mate living in paraburdoo called me on my mobile and told me to switch on the tv.

turned tv on, I say cool what movies this? (actually thinking it was a die hard type film) mate goes its not. shit is happening now..

started watching while talking to my mate, then boom 2nd plane hit.

I still remember what i said to my mate...

"awesome" with a some what wierd feeling in my gut.

watched until just after the buildings collapsed then went to bed.

Didnt bother turning tv on for a while after that.

p.s did any watch the 9/11 program that was on tv the other night?

I was trying to watch SE01EP04 of the lock stock and two smoking barrels tv show and the news was on, with the first tower in flames/smoking. I thought, these guys have taken it a bit too far.

I was in year 11, the world changed so fast it wasn't funny. It went from not needing a passport to fly to new zealand to getting scanned for bombs if you had some stubble on your face - and brazilian electricians getting shot on subways.

Any fans of family guy know seth macfarland was ment to be on one of the planes.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, MacFarlane was scheduled to return to Los Angeles on American Airlines Flight 11 from Boston, Massachusetts. Suffering from a hangover from the previous night's celebrations,[87] and with an incorrect departure time (8:15 a.m. instead of 7:45 a.m.) from his travel agent,[88] he arrived at Logan International Airport sometime around 7:30 and was unable to board the flight as the gates had been closed.[88] Fifteen minutes after departure, American Airlines Flight 11 was hijacked,[89] and at 8:46 a.m. was flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, obliterating the airplane and destroying the building.

half an hour between living or dying.

Was at home having a few drinks with the boys when the first plane hitting the towers came on FOX8 so we turned over to the yank news channels and watched the coverage all night until the next three planes had gone down.

You see alot of random graphic carnage in the media/on the net these days but watching people start jumping out of those towers live was very hard to watch.

Something interesting though Seth MacFarlane (creator of family guy) was meant to be on one of the flights that hit one of the towers but misssed the check in.

I was in bed, year 8 so I had a bedtime..

Remember waking up and I just thought the world had gone nuts and there was going to be some epic war. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
We did nothing at school that day. I remember all the kids saying that we are going to have to fight against little afghan kids that smoke and have AK's, and me thinking I'll be safe because I will just get dads 22 or shotty hahahaha

Waking up and seeing the tv that morning will firmly be inprinted in my mind for the rest of my life, you don't forget a feeling like that.

Was in year 7, got to school and everyone was watching the TV.

Pretty full on event, I think the most disturbing footage I've seen was the people jumping out of the towers, that weird silence watching someone just falling to the earth was pretty disturbing, it's always left a very strong visceral image in my head.

The world changed a lot that day, it's a sad reminder of the animals we really are.
