View Full Version : RIP Shoya Tomizawa
Shoya Tomizawa was killed following a horrid accident in todays moto2 race in Misano.
Didnt really stand a chance
While im not huge on bike racing, seeing that happen was saddening, and he looked to be a future star.

RIP.
Got hit by 2 bikes after losing grip on the front wheel. Hell of a way to go! Not to mention the knobs dropped the end of the stretcher where his head was while they were carrying him away!

Just saw this on Autosport.
Absolutely horrific.
RIP to him and condolenses to his family and friends.
Those other 2 riders involved will have a hard time dealing with this for a while as they both rode straight over him.
No doubt make all racing riders think twice about every move.
The dangers of motorsport.
Second loss in a short period of time two, a rider died at the Indy.

Horrible..
I know it doesn't make it any better for him but I think it was over fairly quickly as the way his body slid along the track was not the way a conscious person slides.
RIP to a great young talent.

Have any reports confirmed whether he died on track, or died post-race?
Those moments where he attempts to turn over/move and then slumps are pretty shocking.

The fact that the handlers dropped it its... shockinG!!
The guy that dies get run over, twice. He ends up stopped on the track just off the racing line.
The video shows the moving guy near the gravel being picked up. It then cuts to the guy that dies on the stretcher and they drop him.

Tomizawa crashed on the 12th lap of the Moto2 race. The Japanese rider was immediately treated at trackside, then at the circuit medical centre and then at Riccione hospital. Numerous attempts were made to resuscitate him but at 14.20hrs he succumbed to cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma.
Here is some insight
The guy moving is Redding.
He is going to have to live with having run him over. Poor guy.

RIP.
Also thoughts go out to Redding and de Angelis who ran him over. They didn't even get a chance to avoid the accident but now have to live with it.

fuck how dodgy do the medics look .. running out ... falling over ... sliding a stretcher out and just plopping the rider on ... flick his legs on ... thats great if he had spinal damage
Especially after what happened to Kato in 2003....
Second great japanese hope for motor cycle racing to die way too young

It's been bad week for motorcycle racing. Peter Lenz was killed in the support race at indy last weekend, he was only 13. Now Tomizawa, he was really starting to get things working for him in moto2 as well. It was such a shocking accident.
Feel so sad for all involved in both incidents.
Pedrossa said it well though
"When you are born, life gives you the chance to choose what you want to do. Tomi chose to be a rider and in fact he was doing great. I just want to think that he's been happy making his dream come true."

Very well said. I daresay if he had of chosen how he would go, it would be doing what he loved. I know the same certainly applies to me.
Shame it was so young, and at the start of what was to be a very succesfuly career by the looks. RIP.

Second loss in a short period of time two, a rider died at the Indy.
Peter Lenz, came off his bike in the warm up lap at Indy and was run over by another rider. He was riding in the 125 (i think) class. He was only 13 years old and was run over by a 12 year old. He died from traumatic injuries and again, was a future star of the sport.
RIP.

is a massive loss to the sport and his family
a similar accident happened not long ago in the 600 superbike series... one guy stalled on the grid, got knocked off one, and then another ran straight over him
internal bleeding, collapsed lungs, broken arms etc.....afaik he lived, but only just
Is a fantastic sport and would hate to see go away
