Updated 29/09/2010
Understandably can cop shit for this purchase, however after selling the STi to buy our house I was left with a void in my life and needed another toy, saved up a little bit of cash and wanted something rewarding and fun to drive..
Handling is amazing for a stock car and the LSD helps there, interior is awsome..
Update 29/09/2010: Have done the following mods
- Mugen Twin Loop cat back
- Highflow cat
- M&M 4-2-1 JDM headers
- Mugen intake
Some bad pics for now:

V tech just kicked in yo!
Seriously but looks neat and for a daily it's ok.
One of the best FWD cars of our generation, you have done well!
Factory seats are so good, as is the feel of the gearbox. Will paint lsd lines if you launch off limiter :D

I like these a lot.
This is the only 'true' type R we got, isn't it?
Everything since has been rebadged type S or something like that.
But this one has the thin windscreen, recaros etc

Love these Type R's, nicely done interior and body shape, seems like you've got a clean example of one, planning on getting a vtec controller too?

Cheers, keen to test that TJ :)
Yeah this one has no sound deadening and everything lightened etc
The ADM DC5 (2002+ kinda shape) Type R is the japanese Type S spot on.. bit soft
Vtec controller sounds good!

FWD, how gay :D
They're a great car, and something you can enjoy driving within the speed limit (mostly...)
Hondata ECU would be what I would be doing, think Verso for honda :)
Be careful with the exhaust, its very easy to make them sound like shit.
Later DC5R is kind of a hybrid of JDM type-s and type-r.

J_R32 - nah was more than 10k unfortunatley, but managed to negotiate the guy down quite a bit from his asking price, and cheaper than the ones over east so not too bad..

..
Try getting a quote at metams mufflers morley they have done a few exhaust for me in the past, and never sounded like a hollow milo tin...
Best way to stop the loud tin noise is to fit a as many hotdog resonators as possible, it will make the note deeper, glass packed muffler will also absorb the high pitch sound on vtec..
nice purchase mate, got a soft spot for the DC2R :)

Get the Mugen twin loop exhaust. Forget rest.
Also get new loan from bank if you want decent power.
Look into:
Toda 4-1 headers
Mugen cat back
Hondata ECU
AEM V2 cold air intake
- should be good for 160kw but torque will be around 210Nm
RK 86 WA
06-09-2010, 09:56 AM
Just go EVERYTHING Toda lol.
Toda headers
Toda Catback
Open the motor and go crazy, get some agressive cams (Toda Vtec Killers), higher comp, then slap some motherfucking Toda ITBS on that shit.
Lonewolf
06-09-2010, 10:12 AM
lol @ Toda motor, be worth more than the whole car :D
Just put a K20a and 6spd in it while your at it...
If you want more power on the cheap, turbo it, otherwise stick with it mostly factory and enjoy it as is.
confuzion
06-09-2010, 10:40 AM
lol yeah could go nuts, hello lotto where are you?!!
TODA headers seem to be the best, 4-1 for most top end, 4-2-1 for power throughout the range.. fucking pricey though.. And definatley keen on the mugen twin loop catback! They sound great!
Who can tune Hondata in Perth?
Lonewolf
06-09-2010, 11:33 AM
FYI Xforce do a twin loop muffler at a lot cheaper price than the real deal, and from memory still sound nice as long as you have a resonator or two in the system.
ASG have done Kccord's turbo Honda with a hondata so should be familar with it.
Also tuned my "vtec" nissan so have some idea how the things work :)
RK 86 WA
06-09-2010, 11:39 AM
Hondata can be tuned at a few locations.
ASG did Kevs,
Gti Performance have done a few but they were mainly for the K series engines.
Southwest Customs (if you can get a hold of them and dont mind travelling down south) have been doing Hondata tuning for yonks.
Unfortunately though I think B series hondata tuning hasn't been looked into very deeply in West Aus.
Lots of people are going down the PowerFC road and are getting decent figures.
Lol at the k20a swap :) DO IT! hahaha (unfortunately you might need to mortgage your house :( haha)
In all honesty, keep it simple with engine bolt ons, go get yourself some good coilovers, decent pads, good tires!, put the car on a diet, get a more agressive lsd and a shorter FD (IIRC they are 4.44 from factory and there are some very well priced M Factory FD sets from 4.7-5.1 I think) and have some fun around a track :)
Lonewolf
06-09-2010, 12:05 PM
Id rather a hondata over the PFC, its also nice and legal then too if someone ever looks at it ;)
Agreed that there hasnt been a great deal of tuning done with it over here, but its a great ECU, and my experience with ASG tuning my very similar motor/ecu combo was good (even without having done one before).
Agreed on the higher Final Drive, provided you can cope with more than 3500rpm on the freeway at 100km/hr :D
If you can get your hands on the Mugen N1 racing ECU grab it.
I ran one with a worked JDM B18 and gained 20hp through the rev range. It leveled out to get 5-8hp more at top end. Plus some other fruit and you get a 1/4mile in 14.1 @96mp/h
Lonewolf
06-09-2010, 12:38 PM
dont do that, get a tunable ECU :)
True,
you will lose Aircon with the Mugen N1.
Aircon is overrated anyways :D
Then get some Peter North spec injectors.

nice find!
un-molested dc2r's are hard to get these days.
imo engine wise all you need is a 2nd hand Mugen 4-1 fat pipe header, twin loop and j's whale.
Pc will re-learn itself somewhat, for durability sake leave the ecu stock,
VAFC's etc etc are pointless too.
i know what it cost's to rebuild a B18CR, not cool..
throw some semi's on the oem rims (if budget lets you),
Dont sell the oem rims, their worth alot of $$ now too and already light enough.
ps; if you decide to sell the car i call dibs!
For the record.
The JDM ITR ecu, AUDM ITR ecu and Civic VTiR ecu all netted the same peak HP on a ecu dyno test I ran many years ago on a B18cR. As Simon said, the ECU's learn how you drive and make continuous adjustments accordingly.
At the end of the day, once you start with the mods you wont stop. Tuning one of these NA is expensive for bugger all returns.
Simon
06-09-2010, 01:39 PM
going down any NA route is costly and time consuming, the right parts are hard to find.
dont ruin the car, keep it tasteful.

Unfortunatley the wheels are not stock, looks like one of the previous owners changed em... Stock are 15x6 with 195's I think? These are 16x6 or 7 with 215's on, but in the same style..
I'm over the red lip so will probably just get em powdercoated gunmetal or something

The ECU's dont have any wideband feedback or MAF sensor so not sure how they make adjustments ;)
But definitely agree, if you go down the power path you'll fork out a lot of cash for not much gain. If not happy with the power your best money is spent on a low boost turbo kit, otherwise leave it mostly stock.

those rims look pretty close to the oe's in the pics, hard to tell.
if your going to change them, forget everything and go for a set of Mugen GP's lol.
exhaust i wouldnt go any bigger than 60.5mm or 2.5"
3" are shit. you lose way too much low end for minimal (if any) top end gain + there just too loud.
buy a kit exhaust from a tuner (spoon, mugen etc) for around the same price an exhaust shop will build one for.
the oem ecu is "flexible" it wont entirely re-map itself although it will make adjustments to a degree when you start to add bolt-ons.
*sidenote; oils, never stray from oem oil, especially in the trans.
learnt hard why with a previous honda of mine.
itr tranny / redline oil + 20km = fist sized hole in the bottom of it with lots of broken shit falling out, happened driving out of my garage.
The ONLY rims to put on a Honda are matte black Spoon SW388's

The intake kit is all carbon and obviously so light compared to the stock gear + resonator. weight saving ftw. Can't really say if its any more powerful but it feels a bit more free revving, and transition to VTEC stronger.
Will install catback once the headers arrive.. Excuse crappy phone pics

Yeah it's wierd.. Definatley do prefer rwd and awd > fwd.. but I do like the fact that the steering is so precise and instant response.. I've had some fairly quick cars but none have been able to attack chicanes like this does.. awsome car to drive hard

K so Mugen intake arrived today along with Mugen twin loop cat back.
The intake kit is all carbon and obviously so light compared to the stock gear + resonator. weight saving ftw. Can't really say if its any more powerful but it feels a bit more free revving, and transition to VTEC stronger.
Will install catback once the headers arrive.. Excuse crappy phone pics
you lose power with the twin loop due to the design, its design to be quiet.
should of gone j's racing whale penis intake, makes vtec sound fucking loud

Nice work with the mods.
A tight and light FWD is always fun to chuck around, going to do any track work?

Had the option but wasnt too keen on the whale penis intake coz the pod sucks in hot air.. sound is not priority.. the mugen is pretty loud too though, but at least I know it's pulling in cold air
Yeah keen for a track day, need to get some pads (ds2500's?) and when I can afford it some semi's
TJ - yes :D
