Brockas

So after much deliberation, my old man decided against the M5/M6/C63 idea and man'd up.

Specs:
2009 Premium Edition R35 GT-R
7,200 kms
Gunmetal

After driving it for the last few days, I'm willing to swap my 33 + a kidney for an R35. Got to take it out today and take some shots of it...

Funnily enough, my old man hates the 'state' plates so much he's running the antilag plates on the front until his new plates arrive (4 weeks).

My old man went through a similar deliberation recently. Unfortunately I wasn't as persuasive as yourself and the 35R waiting list got the better of him - so he ended up going home in a shitter 370Z. If only there was a 35R sitting ready to scoop up!!

Arrrhhhhh! You need a drive sir!
Mods? Unlike 32, 33 & 34s they are very very quick already, what makes us think we are better at car set up than the engineering team @ datsun? Budget for one... I met with the GTR engineering guys and they said most mods will upset the balance and make it slower. Very important to collect some lap time data before and after to be sure of positive gain...

Unless of course the goal is simply to light up 2x 285 & 2x 315 R comps every time you wish to depart.... Errr they do that already but only when cold.

Not until it's out of warranty, then maybe exhaust/tune etc.
Seats, stereo... aka fucall really.

Man up, mod up, (carefully)

Premium spec shows it’s love with:
Interior: red Alcantara / leather inserts on seats and door trims
Bose sound system with 11 speakers, including 2 subs and 2 power amps
Bridgestone Potenzas (less road noise than the standard model’s Dunlop SP Sport)
Black wheels (smoke/grey)
negative $5k in pocket

So ahhh where does he park this car?

Not many places, although I did once park at the supermarket for like 3.5 minutes..

brilliant car! I had to opportunity of driving one december last year ,ill give my first born for one

Arrrhhhhh! You have had a drive sir..... mind blowing engineering!

After giving it a thrash this arvo, can confidently say it would destroy my 33 around a track. In a straight line it's a different story... but who cares about that!

10 -20 years of development and the first GTR to have it’s own chassis, eg not based on a passenger car. Straight line up to about 100 -120kph it would have a very good chance but after 100kph it crys out for more than it’s stock 0.8bar of boost (11.7 pounds)
Under brakes the 35 shows huge improvement over its earlier cousins .

Definitely different to get used to from the 33 man.

Duno how you went Brockers but I felt like a complete tard for the first 2 weeks, very different to the 32 and it was almost like I had to learn how to drive again in the gear box department ... Once half mastered.. Oh my! NOTHING is faster than two clutches!

LC2 instead of LC1, which means it launches at about 3000rpm instead of 5000rpm or so. Still gets out of the hole fkn quick.

Amazing torque! I thought LC1 was at about 4500 rpm and LC2 is 3200 Best we go and test this to be sure  either way I am told that, like almost all ECU / TCU options are programmable with a pro spec cobb

Warranty is only void if you mod it.
Not even void if you track it hard, so long as you get it serviced straight after.

That is not all true, there is much BS about this, typically from non owners.... Funny that!

Mods DO NOT void warranty accept, of course unless it is proven that the aftermarket part directly caused the failure, onus of proof is on Nissan Aust.

Owners are well informed of warranty detail as it is made very clear in the owners manual, again in the warranty book and a third time on the 18 page GTR customer disclosure form they go thru with customers, have them sign it and initial each page. These terms seem to be a worst case scenario, in practice Nissan Aus are very generous.

(hopefully the GTR customer disclosure form was passed on, if not I will send a copy to anyone who has bought a used car)

Service is only required after a track day if the fluids have been cooked / over heated. Eg: engine or gear box oils should not go over (from memory) 120 - 125 degrees C

Enjoy it Brockbanks X2 :-)

Brockas
04-09-2010, 06:19 PM
Epic post!

Yeh they mentioned that it would simply be 'checked' after a track day, and fluids would be replaced if it was required.

ONLY thing that bugs me, and maybe it's just me, but keen to hear the opinion of another owner - do you find it annoying that the paddles don't move with the steering wheel??

I find myself having to take one hand off the steering wheel to change into 2nd if I turn out onto a street in 1st.

'Inspection' is paid for by Nissan, but if fluids need to be changed etc then it's $$$ apparently.

If the paddles moved with the steering wheel you wouldnt know which paddle is up or down in the heat of the moment no?
If you're not trying to drift it, you really shouldn't have your hands anywhere but 9-3 at all times.

Right hand = up a gear, left hand = down a gear. It's what all the Audi's / BMW's / Merc's run and IMO it's much easier to use.

05-09-2010, 02:48 PM
I hear ya.... That bothered me at first too, then after speaking to some drivers of euro trash (trash only cause I cant afford it) they said on tight corners it was a serious problem with the up / down shifters swapping sides. Imagine being at redline in 4th, needing 5th but thanks to the confusion your gifted 3rd..... BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Worst part is that would be your own error! When I met Suzuki San I asked his thoughts, he confirmed fixed was the way to go for many reasons but the one that suck in my mind was “cause crash trouble” Even Mr Clarkson has issues with changing sides, eg when he test drove the prancing horse 458 recently, seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0-10DJwh0c
in a Top Gear review (season 15 episode 6)
If you ask me leave em fixed but each to their own...

Mr. RGVFAST is right on the ball 10/10 Sir!

I reckon they should be fixed. My car's paddles move with the steering wheel, I've had a few oopsies when I took it to motorkhana once, confusing as fuck, I preferred to reach down and shift with the stick instead, takes less time than sitting there thinking about it for split second.

If you're not trying to drift it, you really shouldn't have your hands anywhere but 9-3 at all times.

Right hand = up a gear, left hand = down a gear. It's what all the Audi's / BMW's / Merc's run and IMO it's much easier to use.

Mums MR2 has them on the steering wheel, most annoying thin in the world, fixed paddles for the win, Unless the car has a quick rack and you cant turn it more than a single lock,

BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
There isn't a corner in the world that you'd have enough lock on to confuse the paddles doing redline in 4th!!

Nope - which is exactly why I think they should be on the steering wheel. It's not going to let you change into 2nd instead of 4th if you're on the limiter in 3rd.

Guess it's personal preference!

TJ nod mode on:

Having driven a lot of cars with paddles, I prefer them to be fixed. You always know where they are.

First/second is where you'll run into trouble, sometimes second/third, especially if it decides to step out.

I had that exact problem the other day in the XFR. Ask Kuek, he was with me - I hit first instead of third.

You're right, it's a personal preference: that's why I prefer manual cars. :D

I prefer on the wheel, unless you on a hairpin bend your hands shouldn't be moving too much on the wheel anyway. You'd probably just get used to whatever you have, mine on the wheel so i'm comfortable with it. I've always thought it would be more annoying to have to let go of the wheel to shift if the paddles were fixed and your steering position meant your hands weren't near them.

There obviously is no right and wrong regardless otherwise everyone would have them the same way.

Nice car BTW.

My paddles move with the wheel in the GTI - the only time it has been crap was at a superkhana.
Every other scenario I have nowhere near enough lock on to get confused.

Double clutch gearboxes are where its at.
