Just curious ... been doing alot of marketting this past few weeks and i find the amount of companies that try to do recruitment themselves is growing.
If you work for a company that uses an agencey;
1. Who do you use
2. What type of staff do you require
3. how do you find agencies in general ?

My job isn't recruitment but a lot of the business I get used to go through agencies. Post GFC I have found that alot of the business is handled in house now as a way to be more cost effective.
This is great for me.

i/we run a small business and cant afford to use agencies
every time we advertise a position in the paper we get more calls from agencies promising us people to work than we actually do from people rhaahah

We generally use an agency, but recently started advertising ourselves as well.
It is hell pricey to use an agent, 20% of the employee's salary is crack pipe imo, especially when the salary is well into six digits. Seems hardly worth it, might as well employ someone full time, advertise yourself and filter out the undesirebles, ends up being more cost effective to do it in-house nowadays...

i used one years ago when i was a student.
used one called man power to get some labouring job unloading the insides of shipping containers.

our max Perm Placement fee is 14% ... MAX lol thats like for one off roles from little companies, for larger more reoccuring roles its lower obviously ... shop around man thats all i can say ... be surprised how low companies will go to get your business.
and its not always cost efective to do inhouse ... large scale companies find it easier to use agencies becuase the recruitment process can be lengthy and eats up alot of time that can be used doing other things ... and of course if the person doesnt work out for what ever reason its just a phone call to have them replaced ... not having to start all over again.

mate on average an agencey would only make roughly $2-4 per hour on a candidate to remain competative ... majority of the charge rate is eaten up in other things like super, insurance and pay roll tax.
you may only want to pay the worker 20 bucks an hour but we will most likely charge 33-35 bucks ... 20 goes to candidte ... 10ish goes on super, insurance and pay roll and the remaining 3-5 bucks goes into the company ...
when you have a weekly budget of say $4700 to meet ... its fuck all in the grand scheme of things lol

1. Various agencies around town
2. Business Dev OTE, client service, IT and Design professionals - full time permanent placements.
3. Some have been very good - others have sent us the CV of a person we'd fired, and we've had a one 90-day guarantee re-placement that has actually worked out very well in the end.
I would definitely use the ones we've been happy with again.
I know they have all conducted specific interviews for the role we're presenting and take extra steps to make sure we're happy. Not just picking a name out of a hat and hand-balling it over.
Unfortunately sometimes the 90 day guarantee isn't long enough for us to discover a candidate wasn't quite right. If that was 180, I'd be more likely to use agencies more often.
Although agency candidates are at a slight disadvantage to those who come to us directly. Simply on the basis that they cost us significantly more in that first year.
The company i work for used to use an Agency, then the recruitment office came and worked for us as HR, has now retired and our company just uses seek and weeds out all of the applicants themselves, have around 160 staff atm.

i thought a 3 month trial was pretty standard across the board ?
Why dont you keep them on the agencies books for 6 months and then decide ?

2. What type of staff do you require - Factoryhands, Tool makers, Pick/Pack, Forklift operators, Machine operators
3. How do you find agencies in general ? - Good, Helpful, only let down by workers who dont want to work, or want to work whilst drunk/high or workers who dont show up.....

when GFC happenned only work i could get was through Labour Hire Agencies like Ready Workforce, Hays, smiths recruitment for boilermaking work.
Last job i had was through ready workforce, but there was something about insurance etc where i couldnt be employed through them directly as the place didnt meet requirements so they signed me up and had to pay the labour hire mob $2 an hour for my services for 10 or 12 weeks which i thought was weird.
But ever since Gorgon talk started as well as Pluto going full swing there has nevr been a need for labour hire for myself and most workshops will advertise and sign up directly, which saves them dollars and helps us workers with a bit extra pay.

1. Who do you use- my work does their own recruiting.. we have a HR department for that as they are looking for drillers and offsiders all the time. they offer our employees a bonus for referring someone to our company which is alot cheaper then going through a recruitment agency
2. What type of staff do you require- we always have offsiding and drilling positions that we need people for, both underground and surface mining
3. how do you find agencies in general ? agencies are crap! thats my opinion.

Rob at automotive personnel has done most of our searching for our ultraprune stores ben .
At the moment unfortunately he has only got drug dealers and alcoholics and dead beats for offer .
Most of the mechanics that come from the agents are after crack money for shit return, most of them have been slow lazy deadbeats who couldn't get themselves a job or keep a job to save themselves .
Its of course in my own experience in the 14 years ive been spannering for the company , so it may be different for other garages

Mate tell your boss to give me a bell if he wants a fresh set of eyes on the case, i can make my rates competitive so hes not getting reamed ... ive never gotten a role i cant fill !!

We have had a good run years ago , but of late the only people left are the ones who you have to wonder how they got their ticket in the first place .
You agents are actually good for us as its easy to cut straight through the bullshit, as most of the time the background history of the guy in person is all scoped out buy you guys first :)

sorry i mean as a person looking for a job... i think they are not that great. when i was looking for a job they never called me back but once i had found a job myself without there help they call me like3 months late 'are you still looking for a job' and this has been done by hays, NPP recruitment and someother places mainly in the city.
but for employers i think they are a bit expensive considering some of the miners out there earning 150k plus etc and recruitment agencies usually chagre 10-20% of the wages correct? bit expensive hence why my work gives a bonus to employees who find us workers.works out cheaper for the company and the employees get an awesome bonus but thats just my opinion :) im sure your agency is good.. hopefully not one of the ones i listed above lol

nah mate depending on the agencey and the size of the contract i.e. how many workers are being used on your books ... margins vary
if you order a couple of workers i would charge higher margins than if you ordered say 10 workers off me ... and more than 10 and i would basically do it for fuck all ... charge rates include Super annuation, insurance, pay roll tax and usuall PPE ... after all that like i said before depending on the margins we make about 3-5 dollars an hour on temp placements
Perm placements are usually a % of there annual salary again depending on how much they are paid ...
35-45k - 14%
45-55 - 12%
and so on
one of our White collar recruiters gets placement fee's of like 60k off some projects he works on in Malaysia and Vietnam, but these are Project Managers of multi billion dollar rail and road projects in asia
