I bought the car from a dealer in NSW and had it shipped across.
To register it in WA I had to remove the tint. Clearly something I did NOT want to do. Within a week of the tint being removed, a young hooded native smashed the passenger window and broke into the car. After 4 visits to Windscreens O'Brien and a month later, I now have a fully working window. What a nightmare!

Another thing I have learnt, Volvos do not like to be modified.
After installing the EVOLVE V70R sport springs, the rears were too low and the camber was so far out I needed new rear tyres within 3 weeks. Then my front right shock blew. Needless to say, I paid the price for incorrect advice on the springs. So I had to reinstall the stock rear springs but soon some S60 AWD springs will be in there.

I have been quoted $1k for all the bumpers done colourcoded, baked and installed. It has been done before but quite rare. I have looked into it but decided to spend $1k coin on tuning the engine and stage 3 upgrades.

Nice, didnt know that it was a manual.
TD04 seems a bit small for 2.4L, but must make good low/mid range power

Blake, all Volvos from 2001 onwards were AUS delivered in semi automatic or auto, unless a special order was placed through the dealer. I guess I just got lucky :D
The turbo spools up at 2800rpm and almost sounds like a belt driven blower.
The Autotech tune has a torque limiter in first gear too = bad for hard launches = good for gearbox. Engine internals are good for 320hp.
Hopefully the stage 3 tune will push 300.

Your pod filter is as big as your engine, if not bigger.
Pretty cool car though, and I can openly admit I don't mind the sound of a modded Volvo on full noise, very smooth sound.

The new filter, Evolve / IPD AMS is massive but the photo of it placed above the existing intake make it look huge.

This is how it will sit.

Where do you get your perfromanceparts in Australia to a Volvo?
I just ordered a stage1 chip to my C70 from Autotech motor in Sweden since I couldn´t find anything in Australia?

Its a brilliant tune! I have the stage 3 atm.
Peter @ Autotech is hard to get hold of but if you need any help with the tune side of things, install etc, I can help you.

I get most of my parts from USA / locally and from family in Europe.
There is NO support for Volvo in Perth for parts.

Nice work!

I´m guessing you´ll see somewhere around 300hp with that turbo... If I don´t remeber incorrectly, the 16T is what I´ve got fitted on mine, and with a stage 3 (chip, 3" turbo back and airfilter) A-tech says around 300HP... Should be similar on yours I think?

Cheers mate,
The difference between yours and mine is that my engine was built with a higher compression ratio using a low pressure turbo. Plus 2.4L vs 2.3L.

We'll see how it goes next week.

Installed the TD04hl-16T + S60R downpipe + IPD HD Compressor Bypass Valve with 1.2bar blue spring + Autotech stage 3 tune.

Power keeps pulling well towards redline and does not taper off at 5000rpm like the 13T did. Much stronger pull and torque too. Especially in first gear where it was vacant of any boost beforehand.

Im trying to organise a dyno but as soon as I mention Volvo, they lose interest then never return my calls, lol.

Yeah the wheels really do make the difference! I filled in the rough patches with silver wheel paint but didnt get around to the 2pac clear coat. I will one day when I have more time.

As for the 1/4, I'll have to take all the storage nets, and heavy travel accessories out first :D

Don't forget to bring the "control" Stock 850R!

As for dyno, quite sure dyno readings aren't car bias. Hopefully somebody will read this and point you into the right direction. I had mine on the rollers at a club dyno day a few years back, nobody blinked, just curious!

With the excellent help of Hampus [Slinky], we hooked up a boost controller to measure the boost through all the gears. We needed this so we can make adjustments to the Stage III tune and eventually raise the boost to a optimum level.
The previous 13T turbo was running at 1 bar
This bigger turbo was running at 0.6 bar hold with peak at 0.7

Even at 0.6 bar, it is producing a lot more power than the smaller 13T at 1 bar.
Hopefully by the end of the week I will be running 1 bar on the 16T. Giddy up!

It feels strange to have this sort of power in a Volvo

Spewin about the headlights.. were they insured?

There is a few places in Perth with AWD dyno...
All Star have a hub dyno which ive used in the past and theyre located in Malaga.

On a side note, can you can get aftermarket centre diff controller that over rides the Haldex system yet?
I wanted to do this to my old XC70, 6 years ago but came up empty handed.

skinkis

Did the new tune hold 1 bar all the way?
Must go heaps better now? :D

Regarding the Haldex system, there´s a well-known Audi-tuner in Sweden that found a sollution to Audi´s understeer-problem in their Quattro (Haldex) system, but Volvo´s system is weaker, and I´m not sure if there´s a sollution... But it could be worth emailing them?

you may have issues with dyno's on a hub dyno unless you can lock the haldex into 4wd or 2wd modes.
on the bora it gave very odd readings with the power being shifted around on ASG's dyno

Tested 20psi stage 4 tune yesterday. OMFG!
2-3 gears launch the car very hard but 4-5 gears have a fluttering boost inhibiting power. On full throttle you can feel a pulsing feeling (like it is saying yeah, o wait nah, yeah, o wait nah)
I have returned it back to the standard 12psi stage 3 tune until its resolved by the tuner.

I have returned it back to the standard 12psi stage 3 tune until its resolved by the tuner.

After several dyno runs we have found there is a problem with the tune and waste gate setting.

Apart from slipping on the rollers at the WAPERF dyno day, another dyno made a similar power curve.
The turbo kicks in and jumps straight up to 17psi and pings/detonates, then acts like a stupid kid who cant make its mind up what it wants.
This is resulting in the boost basically fading away to 8psi on full throttle.

We have contacted the tuner in Sweden to hopefully resolve any issues with the tune.

I have also ordered these parts and they will arrive tomorrow:
iPd Silicone coupler kit
iPd brake master cylinder - my existing master is shot
iPd R boost guage - to test and reset the wastgate

Not worth it.
Plus the Brembos are a direct bolt on.

I have researched several alternative kits - including KSport, WP Pro, AP Racing and EVOLVE (now ELEVATE) brakes. Both are over the top for my needs.
Adding juice to this is the fact Porsche Big Red calipers are also a very commonly used.

I suppose this is true. I know the S60R brakes are good but having not driven one before sadly, I couldn't really gauge properly. I've had a look at the Heico packages Barbagallo can get and they're like 350ishmm which to me seemed like it would do the job.

Are the brakes on yet/have you ever tested S60R's before? Not saying they're a bad option (because they're not) Just trying to get your thoughts

Several people have done comparisons with upgrading brakes on the XC.
These include changing to performance pads, using S80 / XC90 V8 brakes etc.
Although the Brembos were not the biggest upgrade they came out well on top in terms of overall performance, feel and stopping power.

Heico are good but too damn expensive. I know the guy who introduced them to Barbagallo and he had a lot of trouble selling them. Not his fault, just many didn't justify spending lots of coin through the dealership for a little bling they can get cheaper online. Today some Volvos come delivered with some Heico parts as an option.

I will let you know when they're on :)

Bigger wheels means lower profile tires. The XC suspension does not like low profile tyres FML :/

Definitely needs a stance improvement if you aren't going to put larger wheels on! :)

Great progress though, the brakes look awesome!

Jimmy, I totally agree but it is impossible to get what I need.
Let me know if you come across a set of S60 AWD rear springs.

Det bryter väl ja?

Think what you were trying to write was: Bromsar det bra? Which would mean something like: It brakes well, yes?

Google Translate FTL.

nah was translated in word, was does it translate too? (couldn't get round the whole "break" thing)

Well, the major issue is that you wrote break and not brake. Two different words which means that the sentence you wrote means fuck all. ;)

Tune is resolved with current set up. Despite lots of testing it was simply down to software.
Will have it dynoed once bigger injectors and another new tune go in later this week.
The XC is a guinea pig.

Purchased a new stainless steel exhaust with the attempt to free up some mooses.
Website says gain of 18hp will be had but I am very sceptical of wild sales claims.
Will dyno as soon as I can bolt it on.

Not the stock airbox, it´s an Evolve kit..

And yes, will sound good with the bigger exhaust on it, the volvo 5pots sound almost as good as the old Audi 5 pots... Almost...

I totally agree but I have the lowest springs available.
Been there and experimented with several other springs resulting in blown struts, bad camber etc. Not fun times :/

Next suspension mod will be getting the V70R rear anti sway bar.
