View Full Version : In tank fuel filter bag for 044
Ok so i've bought a bosch 044 which i intend to install in tank, but i'm having trouble sourcing a fuel filter bag for the inlet. I've tried coventrys but the bloke was no help.
Any help would be most appreciated - cheers guys.

I think I got a universal one through Repco/Coventrys a while back, I had to cut the inlet down a bit as the filter wouldn't fit over the raised section, but 4 years on its still working.
Failing that I found this on another forum
go to your local car parts store and pick up a fuel sock from a v8 falcon, i think around the EA EB era.
it has a white plastic 90 degree elbow coming of it and its about 15mm pipe. cut this elbow off as high as possible and then
you can join this with fuel hose straight on to the bottom of the o44 pump. wrap the pump in 2 inch clear fuel hose from pirtek, and then a few conectors etc and away you go.

I've tried Repco and Covs to no avail..
Covs got out the Goss catalog and tried to order one in but they said the part number no longer worked. Just seems it was put in the "too hard" basket - lazy pingpingpingpings

Cheers for that Brett - might be the way to go.
Steveo - as above haha!

or just buy a bosch 023 , they are the same pump , but designed for intank
much less head f^%K
023 and 040 are no good if your car relies on a strainer arrangement sitting on the bottom of the tank.. they seem to cause fuel surge.
One that will fit is the ones that come with Walbro pumps.. you tap the factory elbow with a thread, do the same to the inside of a Speedflow fitting (not sure of size but I'm sure any good workshop can tell you or do it for you... ASG in particular know how to do this), then you screw and glue together, put the Speedflow fitting and strainer arrangement into the bottom of the 044 pump.. and it should work sweet :)
MAKE SURE you remove the factory banjo fitting from the top of the 044, because if you slip a hose over the end, you'll choke the pump and it will get noisy then eventually fail.. you need to remove it and put a barbed fitting on the output side for in-tank use.

wouldnt it be better to use a lift pump with the filter and mount the 044 externally? I know people use 044's in tank but its really only a push pump isnt it? I would of thought it would shorten the life of it.
Definitely not just a push pump, it can be used in tank with no issues.
