I would give my left nut to find where my old lh 308 torana is now and would love to buy it back.
Quite a few people i know want to do the same.
Anyone know if its possible to trace back who may own the car now?
Pretty difficult as its kept private, You may have luck with a copper mate who can search rego Numbers or someone at DPI.
I bumped into my old Rx7 at a house party and had a chat to the owner, was keen to buy it back, but he sold it since for less than I sold it for. on to its 3rd owner since me I believe, Would like to find it again, Id seriously consider buying it back!

My first car, also a Torry, written off. 2nd car, turned into a shitter, 3rd car, another Torry, also written off. List goes on, most cars I've sold have been wrecked, and they weren't shitters to begin with. Don't buy a car from me..........lol

My first VN in all it's rusted out glory is still getting around, but I'd never want it back. Some mates saw it parked up at Subi oval a year or so ago, looking as I sold it way back when I was 18. Same goes for my white VT, sold to some young bloke in rocko, still getting around on the same rims with monaro rear end. I know the guy with my XU6, I've even offered to buy it back but he wont part with it. Still in as good a nic as when I sold it to him, which is nice to see.

last time i saw it, it was for sale not running in someones back yard missing engine components and looking a bit worse for wear..
Seems to always happen, you spend bulk coin on a car to get it all nice and within a week someone has fucked it beyond recognition

Might be an idea for carsales.com or the like to have a registry on the site where you can sign up and put in details of said previous vehicle and if it comes up for sale you could be notified.

Sounds similar to mine.Fucking old corona just would not die. I had the old 18RG (I think) motor in mine though. Went decently for a POS.
I miss my second car more. 86 Corolla, mild 4AGE, no mufflers etc etc. Sold it for a bottle of bourbon with the motor in the back.
Have often thought of purchasing another and turning it into a track car.

Sold it to another young bloke in Leeming when I moved to perth, saw it about 6 months after I sold it with a big scrape/dents from the a pillar back on one side.. never saw it again.

My first car at least went to a good home. AE82 twinky I sold for spare parts for a rally car.
My second car lasted less than a week. AW11 MR2 SC Backed into a pole by it's new owner. Was not surprised, it spent most it's time facing the wrong way when I had it. I was just lucky.

First car was cubed - 81 735iL.
VT was traded at SPV, Tech9 bought it, then after that it went thru a couple of owners and is now owned by an aboriginal family somewhere in St James/Vic Park. See it a fair bit these days... looks like a complete and total junkheap now. Used to wash it once a week and keep it looking tops when I had it :(
I think my 1st car is still getting around. '84 XE Fairmont. Would love to have it back!!! Clear coat was starting to peel off tho..

shame really, i loved that car
'79 UC Torana, god knows where it's gone. The old Hillman got sold to a young bloke, dunno where it's gone.
Although, my old lancer has been through 4 owners since me, and I saw it the other day, same stickers, same wheels, same exhaust.
The S13, is in Perth somewhere, making bulkload more power, but haven't heard anymore since.. it was white with watanabes, then he put some 17" drifteks. Apparantly still has the KS13 plates on it too.

first thing i did when i got it was take the drivers seat out and put plates in to move it back 6 inches i i could get my knees under the steering wheel.
Sold it to a neighbour when i bought a 180, she sold it to this guy.
From the sounds of it this kid's done quite a bit of work to it and it might actually run now.

I have been asked by a few members on another forum group to post the following info. Thought might be of interest here too.
Hopefully will be of some interest and use!
Following the recent purchase of our RS2000 I often wondered about the history of this car. Obviously the car was close to 30 years old and had been well cared for over many years. Where had the car previously lived, who owned it and for how long? Was it originally sold in Sydney? Were these people still around?
Ford marketed these cars to the younger generation in the very late 1970’s, so we assumed that the early owners would now be in their early to mid forties. Soon it occurred to me that since these cars were always built as enthusiast cars maybe the past owners would also be interested knowing that their old car was still surviving very well. They may also have memories and photos that they would happily share.
The first port of call was Ford Motor Company in Melbourne. Being the manufacturer of the vehicle permanent records should still be on file and be available. On phoning FoMoCo Customer Relations I was pleasantly surprised how interested and helpful they were. Within two working days Ford promptly phoned me with details they had found about the car in their “Old Vehicle Report”. I requested a letter of confirmation be posted to me. A week letter a Letter of Verification arrived complete on official FoMoCo letterhead. The letter was provided absolutely free of any costs or charges. I have added the letter to our permanent documentation for the car.
What you will need:
1. A letter of request. (see sample letter below, best in your own words though!)
2. Proof of your identity. (ie photocopy of your drivers licence etc)
3. Proof of ownership of the vehicle (ie photocopy of recent registration papers or proof of purchase)
4. Fax or post your letter to Ford.

The second port of call was a long shot, however worked out very well.
Since we now had Ford’s proof of manufacture we wondered about past owners and where the car had lived. In the socialist state of Australia the authorities had long ago invented crappy laws limiting freedom of information. They call it “Freedom of Information”, however the more intelligent of us will identify this as double speak which actually limits even to professionals the amount of information made available, especially by protectionist government departments.
Since I live in NSW I posted a letter to the Roads and Traffic Authority NSW (RTA). I requested the information be supplied to myself in writing as specified under S17 of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.
I requested:
1. The exact date (day) and original registration number of the car
2. Current names and addresses of all past owners of this particular vehicle.
3. As with the letter to Ford I provided proof of my identity and proof of ownership of the vehicle.
The first point I thought would be responded to (if I was lucky), however I thought that the second point would be blatantly refused by the government department.
Several days later I received a phone call from the RTA Records Access Unit in Sydney from a very friendly woman requesting more info from me and to generally suss me out.
She informed me that any info older than 25 years from current date had automatically fallen off the edge and permanently lost from their database. So the original rego number and the exact day of first registration was not available from the RTA. She suggested alternative routes to find this info.
The second part of my request was in fact easier for her to research and was considered doable if we followed the correct procedure. I followed up with a slightly more detailed letter of request than my first letter together with a small fee which set the wheels in motion. On receipt of this letter (and payment) the RTA would research and send letters by express post to all past owners at their current addresses. The request was the permission for the RTA to pass on their names and addresses to me as the current owner of their old car. I received several phone calls from the RTA all being very positive and very helpful and keeping me continually updated. Soon after we received a list of names of each past owner, their current address, registration numbers of the car for the past 25 years, and also purchase and sale dates. As a result of this documentation we have been able to establish when the car was registered, unregistered, in storage etc. Past owners have also phoned me and also visited the car to see it in current condition. One past owner was so excited to receive the RTA letter he immediately phoned the RTA asking for my details so that he could phone me straight away! So a very positive experience for all.
What you will need:
1. A letter of request. (see sample letter below, best in your own words though!)
2. Proof of your identity. (ie photocopy of your drivers licence etc)
3. Proof of ownership of the vehicle (ie photocopy of recent registration papers or proof of purchase)
4. Post letter to the RTA (NSW) or equivalent in your state.
If the RTA NSW the address is on top of my sample letter below:

Hello To The RTA,
I have recently purchased the vehicle as identified below. The car is quickly becoming a collectors vehicle and I am interested in learning as much about the history as possible.
Strictly for personal keepsake records could I please ask for the following information:
1. Exact date of first registration
2. First registration plate number
3. Names and current addresses of all past owners.
I request this information to be supplied to myself in writing to the above address as specified under S17 of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.
As the current owner of this vehicle, I request the information be supplied on the basis that it is strictly for my personal and private use only. Any information supplied will be kept as private keepsake material with the vehicle’s permanent history records in our possession.

Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance to you.
Yours Sincerely,

(your name printed).
For those interested in researching the history of your car the information will be of significance. We have also found interesting magazine articles for our exact car by Googling and also on Ebay. As an enthusiasts cars most, if not all will have positive responses to requests for information. It is wonderful to find and receive photos and copies of magazines 15 to 20 years old with your exact car featuring in it finding some guys' name in the article, finding his phone number in the white pages and calling him and saying “Hi, in 1990 did you once own……, well we have recently purchased your old car…”.
But best of all the enthusiasts that once owned your car often are still enthusiasts; and often become friends.
Remember, unless your car has had only a few (still living and contactable) owners and easily tracable then the history will be found from various sources and have to be pieced together.
Have fun!

Sounds similar to mine.Fucking old corona just would not die. I had the old 18RG (I think) motor in mine though. Went decently for a POS.
Lol sounds exactly like my first car. 1976 Corona with 18RC motor. (was yours 18RG? Those were the highly sought-after ones from early Celicas with Twincam and Twin carbs I think).
I loved that thing. Had like NO power but man, I kept the rear wheels totally bald on it all the time from so many alleged burnouts :)
Allegedly I got pinged for going around 140km/h in an 80 zone in the first week I had it. Took me like 2 months to pay for that fine. Only got 4 demerit points for that back then.
Alledgely I got it up to 160km/h once, not bad considering it only had 4 gears.
Infact, allegedly about 10 minutes (litterally) after getting my licence I was doing a burnout on some guy's lawn with a mate in the passenger seat.
Somehow I managed to kill the 4spd in it but it was just cause the synchros in 2nd gear were so bad, too much crunching finally killed it. Replace the gearbox and it still kept going strong for ages.
Engine used to burn heaps of oil like 4litres a week.
Heh....oh for those care-free hoon days, what a blast. In my Corona lol.
Sold it to a P plate kid in the end for 200 bucks.
Don't think I'd buy it back if I had the opportunity though. Rust got it pretty bad from being parked in the weather the whole time I had it.

First car was an ae86, bought it for 1200 :D. Sold it to a couple of guys who wanted to drift it I think, not too sure what happened in their hands.

Telstar TX5.....I still had a copy of the transfer forms for some reason. Looked up the address on Streetview to see the car parked on the verge. Was close to my Grandparents house, so always drove by and had a quick look. Didn't see it for about a year, though in the past month I have seen it 3 times in Kingsley - I'm guessing the owner has moved or it's been sold on.
Brings a smile to my face knowing it is still in immaculate condition, would not be surprised if it has had a rebuild though...
