FUUUU Eventcorp you bunch of losers!!
I don't care if it was not you're fault, should not of placed everything into the air race to begin with.
the reason its not happening in 2011 is because another plane crashed elsewhere in the world , so they want to investigate to make the sport safer.
edit . the whole event was scrapped not just the perth leg

They said they are restructuring the events and there is no guarantee that Perth will keep it.
just going by what was on the radio on the way home :p

The Perth leg of the Red Bull Air Race was actually used as a benchmark for all the other ones because of how well it was setup and run. As others have said, it's the whole season being closed down for a planning/redevelopment phase.

Rally Australia was looked at in the same way - it was the benchmark!

it was a benchmark that festered with eventcorps mismanagement. Wasn't too hard for another state to steal it

From what I saw on the news last night, they plan to take a year off and return the following?

Heres hoping that because it was a benchmark we see it back here in perth.
however i would love to see Rally Australia Return as well

Air Race is pretty shit, You're better off going and watching the day before the actual race and with 100,000 less pingpingpingpings there.
I feel like there is no longer anywhere to go in Perth. :(
there isnt. one reason why i left.

WRC wasn't stolen from WA.
Apparently Eventscorp can't be bothered with a profitable world class international motorsports event.

But we have the Truffle Festival!
And Cow Parade!
Read some of the figures on what bloody Cow Parade was apparently going to bring to the state...it's ridiculous some of the ROI calculations they do.
we had the craft and quilt fair on at the convention center, i take it no one went?

From the WA events website...out of 34 events for August in total...here are some interesting ones...
Kununurra Markets
Psychic Awareness Magical Fair
National Tree Day
Bush Tucker and Camp Oven Cooking School
Bollywood Sensation Mika Singh live in concert
Wyndham Race Round
Nannup Flower and Garden Festival
Rotary Club of Ballajura-Malaga Annual Community Fair
Coonawarra Wine Tasting Roadshow
2010 WA Spring Poetry Festival
Goldfields Caravan & Camping Show
Imagine being a tourist looking at that lot.
Quit Targa West and City to Surf are on...they are the highlights.
It just seems there are very few events that are about excitement in any way. There is really nothing there (besides the last two) that would do anything to attract young people to the state.

They're simply catering to their audience - Perth has an ageing population.
Look at the way the city is developing - we have 2 major sporting stadiums - subi oval and the waca - and the waca is in decline. Live msuic venues are becoming fewer and fewer, due to noise complaints etc - as happened with burswood. Same goes for concerts held at Claremont showgrounds - look at the issues the BDO has faced in recent years. Undoubtedly the air race probably drew complaints also.
With the population getting older, and more conservative (ie extended trading hours and daylight savings), why would Eventscorp try and bring in events for younger people? And more to the point, why would those events come here?
Perth is an ageing, conservative city with a large degree of urban sprawl. When it comes to anything outside of AFL, very little suppport is shown by the majority of its population.
Not saying I like that it is the way it is though.

It's fine to watch from the roof of a boats flybridge :) Uninterrupted views ftw.

Avon Decent?
I think u'll find perth does have alot of stuff happening all the time, the one major flaw is these events are just not advertised. So unless you are in a select group that enjoys or partakes in these certain activities most people generally just dont know they are happening despite the fact they would be quite popular.
As such this leads to smaller crowds at events and less chance of them continuing.
Take any of the events that happen at Barbagello, how often do you see or hear of the No Limitz night advertised, The Kings Of Wanneroo bike race or a round of the national Supermoto series is held up there. Despite their mention on bike or cars forums i have never seen any of these events mentioned in main stream media. And these are just the motorsport based ones i can think of i'm sure if u looked there is plenty of sports events, downhill mountainbiking at Wellington Mills pretty sure a national round is held there, Surf Life Saving events and so on.
People are lazy, if they are not bombarded with advertising (redbull air race, Royal Show, Skyshow) then they cbf lookin for these events its easier to just say "yeh nothing happens here"
Will not miss it, shit event.
Bring back Rally Aus.

Some what agree - but if they want to change the amount of idiots out there trying to be terry tough pingpingpingping while pissed they should bring something that the young people want to attend instead of the only option being: get pissed, get fucked up.
