my advice is stay away from things like that if you don't know much about it.

could be worse than you're lead to believe, and be a head fuck in the end.

+1 what type of car?

maybe he is trying to say it crunches/grinds when changing at high rpm or when the gearbox oil is hot? i would say 3rd gear syncro is fucked. however if you really keen on the car just be prepared for the worst case scenario, which is allow about $1000-1200 to recondition the box with new syncros and bearings etc.

edit; im assuming its manual.

Does he mean grinding?

If so, not unusual for a high km box.

What is the rest of the car like though??

rest of the car isnt important im transplanting it into my rs.. i done my box and run the big end bearing blue well my mate from work did it so hes paying for the replacement im just buying a cheap conversion to take the box n donk than part the rest out or sell as rolling shell.

im not sure what he meant im waiting for him 2 reply 2 my e-mil he said binding all i could think was grinding possibly slipping out or not engaging i cant work it out waiting to hear from him.. i just dont wanna find out the box has caused other problems or to find out its nothing 2 do with the box in the 1st place

so worst case the box is a throw away

best case... probably the same

once a 5 speed has issues its on its way out really.

yeh the boxes are temperamental disposable they would have made more profit selling replacement boxes than rs's to begin with
cheers guys just have 2 wait and see and cross my fingers.

If he is sure its the box, tell him to swap the other one into the car for you.
