Has anyone purchased these leather seat covers off ebay before?
These are the type that replace the cloth trim on your seats, and not just slide over your cloth trim.
They look pretty good in the photos, but I'm just wondering if anyone has tried something like this before?

They are rubbish dude, don't bother.
A couple of mates have bought them, they don't fit right, stitching is all crooked, AND THEY ARE NOT LEATHER. The seller is also very very unreliable, one of my mates waitied 6 months for his to arrive, making a phone call atleast twice a week.
Save your money and get them done properly.

Thanks for the feedback mate. My mates dads an upholsterer so I might just get him to make them in the future then. Cheers.

Just a quote of somone on MR2 forums first hand experience with that exact company.

Hey

I can tell you that I had my seats redone by Proseat a couple of months back and am very happy with the quality and fitout.

In fact I think those pictures [I attached them below] supplied may be from my car.

Since I am in Melbourne, I had the boys from Proseat actually do the fitting, so that from a warranty point of view they couldn't blame the installer. They do recommend professional installation

The original leather was removed - with any faults in foams fixed prior to new leathers fitted.

I chose the man-made leather version - which is the price you quoted.

when I first visited the company , he showed me some sample seats that were all left sitting outside exposed to the elements.- with a dust off you could see the material was in excellent condition.

As you know from their ad, material style (perforated or not) colour of stitching and leather is all your own choice. - I kept it as close to orig. as possible - so all black with perforated centre and black stitching. My door cards are already perforated and it all matched up very well.

While I am certainly no expert on seat restoration/recovering - I must admit that I am very happy with the results.

However I do strongly advise that you track down someone that has already had their car seats recovered to view for yourself because having them sent interstate and receiving them in a bag will leave you wondering how it will really look.

more than happy to answer any question you or others may have( oh by the way - I am just a happy customer - not connected to proseat in any way other than sitting on their seats. haha

cheers

Apparently set him back another $200 for the company Proseat to install the trim.

My leather seats are 20+ years old and are near new except for the drivers seat even with a 3yr old climbing over them.

glad i saw this thread..
a bloke on the altezza forums advertised black leather seatcovers (f+r armrests, headrests, gear boot etc) for sale from his hail damaged is200. i was just about to make the trek to go collect when i asked him to confirm they were natural leather.
his reply by PM was this-

"Hi,
its semi-leather I believe its to prevent them from fading and cracking like natural leather, but its definitely not vinyl or any cheap plastic cloth

LOL @ Semi-Leather.

It's either leather, or its not leather.

That being said, some manufacturers only put leather on the faces of their seats and vinyl on the sides.

Also, BMW in their lower end models now use "synthetic leather", but most can't tell the difference as its of a very high quality.

I know someone in the process of getting their leather seat covers made at the moment. The guy at ProSeat didn't have leather seats for the new celica's so what he had to do was cut out his own seats and send it to ProSeat to use at a template. Hope that all goes well.

He probably meant semi-aniline. It's still leather, but it's been corrected, or fixed up slightly - basically the top surface is polyurethane.

The best leather is aniline, however you wouldn't want to know the price of it.

Then there's corrected grain, which is basically a pig-skin with a man-made grain so it looks more natural.

The only way to ensure something is leather is to see it before it gets sewn and attached to your car.

I wouldn't be happy unless I shot and skinned the cow myself.
